Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Is there a set mileage that it's recommended to be done?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I tried the search function, but couldn't really find the answers to my questions.
I'm looking at getting a 996.1 coupe and it looks like my budget of 45k won't stretch to a manual. I do understand that manuals are a more rewarding drive, but as this will be my daily driver, I really don't have any issue with getting a tip.
What I'd like to know is, assuming (with receipts) the car has been regularly serviced and it's got, say 150ks on it, when could I expect the tip to need a rebuild? Is there a set mileage that it's recommended to be done? If someone has recently done this, may I ask what the rebuild set you back? Can people with manuals please answer the same questions, on the off chance that I manage to snag a good deal on one.
Lastly, with 2 comparable cars, one tip and one manual, what is the general consensus on how much more the manual car is worth?
TIA.
I am a bit rusty, but off the top of my head manuals were about 5k on top of tips when I was looking two years ago.
@WOKA
have you kept your spreadsheet up to date?
When I started researching 4 years ago the difference between manual and auto was on average 10 k but now it seems to have closed a little. The biggest price change was the series two S4 which over a two year period climbed 20 - 30 k in price but has now plateaued in the last year.
Sorry no, but my tip has now done 113kms, no real issue yet, although I reckon the time mine holds the manual selection (while in fully auto mode) is more like 15 secs rather than 8 secs per specs (as I understand it is supposed to be) - this may well be just my impression - perhaps time just goes more slowly while I'm driving

The auto appears to hold up, mine (996.1) is at 142K and from what i can see only issues have been split CV boots and a stuffed transmission mount.
About to do the filter as i am not sure when that last done.
Ok, to quote me from the earlier thread (clearly I had forgotten this!)
"Ok, after some random reading of a book I have, Porsche 911 Story by Paul Frere, I stumbled across what seems like the facts of the 996 autos....
The 996 did come out with a ZF sourced automatic transmission for all the non turbo/ non GT cars. The turbo trans was sourced from Mercedes due to the ZF one not being able to handle the torque. From 2002 with the increase in torque of the base models, the ZF was replaced with the Mercedes unit. This continued into the 997 as well."
So the 996 has a mix of ZF and MB boxes..... the MB being the better of the two.
Edit: That being said I would see no reason why the ZF box would not last a long time as well, auto transmissions are usually very robust units, as long as the maintenance is kept up top them!
Your budget should get you a mint 996.1 like I imagine this one is.

Low kms and plenty of life in the tranny
2001 is the only year they did seal grey for a 996.1 as I understand it.
Also has full leather which is a bonus, although does suggest it could be a UK import as seems to be a common option there but not here. Although speedo is in kms
OK, interesting about full leather being more of a UK thing, I hadn't realised that. Think my (Seal Grey) 996.2 is part leather, but our (Seal Grey) 987.1 is full leather Terracotta. Full leather is nice......
