Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

25 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys, I was flicking through the website below as my wife is looking for a Porsche convertible and knowing nothing about them other than lots of different types and nos! I thought I'd start looking. I have in the past been into tvrs, (3 in fact) but my wifey is looking for something she can enjoy with our two girls and still get to work without any issues. I came across this and the guy has written back to me to say it's got all paperwork, never been damaged and it's on at a low price because it's out of its lease term. Am I being a little naive?? I'd appreciate any comments, this is where I'll get some truth! Curtis http://www.motors.co.uk/car-33734687/sr

Curtis http://www.motors.co.uk/car-33734687/sr Their listing states " Our history check found that this vehicle is recorded as previously being exported, imported or written off." I'd assume therefore that it's at least a Cat D. However if it's been properly repaired it could be someone's bargain. There's no way you'd get a fully kosher 996 turbo conv for that money

POST 3Original post

Something not quite right there; 8k for a 996 turbo? Have I been working on 991 turbo S' s too much this week and missed the market freefall?? If the price is right I wish I'd not bought my A4!! But I think it's wrong........

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, that's what I think but he's written to me to say; The car has been technically reviewed and all the paperwork is in good order. The interior looks brand new, is fully functional and smells great. The paint is original, no scratches, dents or scuffs. We took great care to ensure that the car is absolutely immaculate throughout for the age and mileage, inside and outside before putting it up for sale. It is HPI clear and has never been involved in any accidents or any discrepancies. This car wants for nothing. It is well below Parker's price guide because it has served it's lease term and this amount clears its value. I'll call him tomorrow and ask. Many thanks Curtis

POST 5Original post

Never heard "out of lease term" being a reason to be that far below the market price. Guessing the OP has never looked at any other Turbo Cab adverts.

POST 6Original post

More scammy than a scammers scam. Be careful out there.

mollytherocker said: More scammy than a scammers scam. Be careful out there. Absolutely. Last 996 on lease was probably 2007/8...

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Of course I have checked cab ads or I wouldn't be querying the price of this!! It was more because of the pricing structure of the other Marques they are selling and the values of those. they all look remarkably cheap. I'll ask the question tomorrow and feed it back, if some of you haven't beaten me to it!!

POST 9Original post

Looks a lot of car for the money but there has to be more to it, its that price for a very good reason and nothing to do with being at the end of a lease. Regardless of that story they would look to achieve market value for it IF it was a genuine car. Be careful out there. If its too good to be true, it is. You would at least want a PPI check done and a rock solid warranty unless you are happy to lose £8k ?

POST 11Original post

DELETED: Comment made by a member who's account has been deleted. +1 - they're not on the tenant's directory for tapton park innovation centre. One of their other vehicles is an '07 X5 for 9750 - ludicrous - I've just traded in on '07 X5 with lower spec & higher miles for 16k. Why would anyone sell cars for way less than webuyanycar.com would offer?

POST 12Original post

DELETED: Comment made by a member who's account has been deleted. I think you're wrong - I called today and left a deposit on it, they told me that the car's out of the country at present but put in touch with a shipping agent who I can pay directly, they will hold my money until the car arrives back here and I can check it over, only then will they release the money to the seller. What could possibly go wrong?

POST 14Original post

This is a scam thats been doing the rounds on Auto Trader for a while. The advert normally asks you to email the seller and not to phone them. They are always nice cars that are way below the price they should be, (£30k car for £10k etc). Avoid.....

POST 15Original post

Yes, got this on a A1 on autotrader which was competitively priced but not too much so. Maybe 15pct below others. Please use email, not phone. Car is in the middle of nowhere up north, stored and ready to be delivered. Seller is away in the US this week... So delivery company will supply the car and you can settle with them directly... Oooooookay. Haveanicedaythankyouverymuch. Reported it to autotrader but what can they do... These things are so anonymous... Maybe they should require the VIN number of the car in the ad and make sure it matches... That might screen out some fake ones... But these guys will always be there to try...

POST 16Original post

There is a "report" link on all autotrader ads - I'd encourage everyone to use it whenever they see a dodgy ad. The quicker and more often they get caught out and the adverts taken down, the more chance of them not bothering again.

POST 17Original post

Notice this advert has been removed it would appear!!

POST 18Original post

This seems quite common and can catch the gullable and stupid alike. A friend of mine took some convincing that a 2 year old Audi TT for £9k was a scam on gumtree.

POST 21Original post

Wasn't Keighly Trade Centre selling it was it? LOL

POST 22Original post

mollytherocker said: I just cant believe that people can be so gullible. Apparently the thing to do is to make the adverts 100% too good to believe, that way you only attract the most stupid of victims. The incredibly dimwitted are most likely to pay up without too many questions and are least likely to aid any investigation when they finally realise they're not getting a 911 Turbo: The more obvious the scam, the more special the person that falls for it.

POST 23 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hence the title. And I was only asking, I hope you weren't aiming your derogatory post towards me!!

POST 24Original post

Beggars belief ANYONE who thinks they can buy a 996tt cab for 8k. If you think you can, well, you deserve what you get I'm sorry. Our Autotrader account was hacked and loaded with lots of cheap cars. Incredible the amount of calls we received. I would have thought common sense would have kicked it, but it didn't Go with 'too good to be true and it usually is' and you won't go too far wrong. Stevie

chibs said: Hence the title. And I was only asking, I hope you weren't aiming your derogatory post towards me!! Ha, no, of course not! Anyone that asks about this ad is clearly never going to fall for it! Thanks for posting it here - I get to see a lot of attempted scams in my day job, so it's good to see some different ones on here
