Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Thought it was about time we showed the water cooled Turbo cars some love. Post your Turbo pics here and as we love to talk about what’s for sale so much, for sale links too. If you have a long lost love of a previous turbo post some pics. Any questions or tips on modifications or upgrades you have done please post them. Love these car from BBI.

This is up at Lake Mountain yes? There is awesome driving down in the Yarra - I used to have the GT2 down in Vic as there are plenty of good roads around and places to eat.  Equipped with full Akra exhaust and RS tuning ECU upgrade which takes it to about 440kw. Here it is up the top of Mt Donna Buang 996TT Relatively stock with upgraded Porsche bits.  I really think these are some of the best performance for the money around. - 997 GT2 turbine upgrades to reduce lag and give more punch, 997 GT2 RS intercoolers, 964 RS clutch kit, Europipe exhaust, 997 short shift kit, 996 GT2 Recaro's, Techquipment half cage.  To be installed are GT2 callipers with 350 mm motorsport rotors front/rear.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes @1q2w3e4r that’s my Turbo at LAke mountain, credit for the car goes to the previous owner Jim who is also a forum member. Modifications. *    997 GT3 brakes *    F & R - LCA Tarret solid bushings, Rennline Monoballs *    997 gearbox moun with F1st insert and short shift gear linkage kit with solid bushings *    Torque solutions semi solid engine mounts *    Bilstein adjustable Coilover kit PSS10 *    Adjustable Eibach sway bars & Tarret drop links F & R *    New strutt mounts *    Kline sports exhaust 200 cel cats with seperate de-cats *    GT2 size OZ racing wheels 18"x12" & 18"x9" *    Stage 1 flash tune by UMW Utimate Motor Works *    Billet diverter valves & silicone F-hose Couldn’t agree more on bang for buck with these cars. Love your pics.

POST 6Original post

@Fraz Your car is very fast, hard to imagine going any faster for the $$.  I chased Jim a few times in my GT2 (which had ~580hp) and Jim was every bit as fast and more sure footed being AWD, especially in the wet.  The GT2 was no doubt more exciting and lively (ie scary) in the hands of us mere mortals.  Mind you Jim can drive too...I battle these days to keep up with him in same spec GT4s ?

I've got Kevin's (UMW's) clutch kit and 2A turbos / diverter values etc along with his tune.  He does fantastic work and is the go to guy for these IMO, if you ever want a bit more poke and low end response I can't recommend getting a set of his zero clearance turbos highly enough it really transforms the car. Yours looks very well sorted!  How do you find the PSS10s compared to stock?

Anyone ever owned both 996tt and 997tt? I'm pretty keen to hear what they are like back to back. Didn't think I would ever say this, but I have really fallen in love with the 996 in the last  year or so

POST 11Original post

no drag racing @Fraz ! 180mph spin no thanks!

POST 12Original post

That's a bad spin and a very lucky save. I've had the car up to 260kmh, the faster it was the more stable it felt, it really was rock solid and could feel the down force  working.

Here are some cars that we used to play with a long time ago.. I dont normally upload the cars from the race team i was part of but here you go... The 996 GT2 was one of the first ones delivered to OZ & still sitting in the shed today... both good animals

They are owned by a very good friend of mine both are road cars... the 996 GT2 is around 650HP & had a Cup Car sequential gearbox at one stage but now back to standard... the 997 Turbo S was sold off long time ago

POST 19Original post

Quotes source post: 242238

Can't remember the specifics but the 996 GT2 was dam quick with lots of mods, the 997 was quick enough standard, i didn't drive them

POST 20Original post

Quotes source post: 242227

On track of course.......? I managed 265 at PI and felt really good.  Smooth power, felt like it did it easy and was still pulling.  In the video below(~2:50) , tyres were not warm enough and I locked the rears momentarily into Turn 1.  Doesn't look much here but it got the heart racing. Somehow after the engine failure and new 3.8 build, it was never quite as good.  Maybe psychological knowing it was non numbers matching. The  best I did was 1:45 (albeit a better driver pushing harder could probably pull several seconds off that).  But I reckon GT3 is a faster car round a track despite the significant HP deficit.

POST 21Original post

I have driven 997.1 and 996TT for weekends in the swiss mountains.. bang for buck with some mods the 996 is a winner If the 997.1 manual falls a little in price is killer car though. I wanted a non turbo car so bought a GT3 , but as you have seen me ranting elsewhere the no doubt , I am totally blown away with the 997 and TT in standard form will shock you . if I wasnt holding another TT , I reckon perhaps the 997TT would have been a better fit for me .. You really need to decide if your gonna work it on the track , cos for me I reckon a well setup 996TT is a good track/road cross over, the 997TT faster but a little sloppy on the track, compared to Bilteins setup car perhaps or equivalent suspension setup and you might want the GT3 brakes. Personally I think these cars all need to get to the track to really enjoy them.. Just have two sets of wheels and maybe in a TT have one of those temporary harness bars or drop in a seat if your super serious.  Day to day the leather comfort seat is the plush, you might get fed up climbing across the GT3 race seats

POST 22Original post

Quotes source post: 242241

Of course on track? Watched it a couple of times on my phone, couldn't see or hear the tyre lock up . Interesting about your performance after enginge rebuild, l would have thought the opposite.

POST 23Original post

Right at 2:52 you can just hear it and you can see i run quite wide - crapped myself the engine build was a bit of a saga with Fitzgerald and the tune I don’t think was ever quite right.  I think I was always fearful it would go bang again so we fell out of love....

POST 24Original post

I can just hear it, pretty frightening at that speed. Plus there's no nannies in that car, you're on your own when something goes wrong.. Its a shame about the engine and not good to hear you had some saga with Fitzy. How are you liking the GT4 ?

POST 25 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

More boosty then there were two.

POST 26Original post

Quotes source post: 242284

Yep SC/TC might be considered soft for GT cars but ill take it every day versus fear of being spat into the trees. re Fitzy and the journey, happy to discuss with anyone who finds themselves in the predicament of needing a new engine and pass on what I learned.  Not fair to air my laundry here for everyone to form an opinion. Wrong thread to reply to your question but...........NA all the way, GT4 is awesome.❤️  Down on outright power and speed, up on engagement, sound and accessible thrills. a keeper (until I grow impatient for the next best thing  ?)

POST 32Original post

Quotes source post: 242222

owned a gen 2 997TT and once drove it back to back with a 996 gt3. Such different animals. The 997tt is such a well planted car and very easy to drive. Gen 2 PDK is insanely fast - to be honest too fast for normal driving and so felt under utalised most of the time.  The 996 gt3 was so much more skittish and I certainly had to back off a bit. There was quite a big step up in power/times from gen 1 to gen 2 997tt's and of course the 996tt's. At now around $100k for a 996tt this seems pretty good value now, but you sense both 997 and 996 are now on their way further down. Hard to deny that the 997 is a better looking car, but once the 996 hits $50k...

POST 33Original post

TurboT IMO there is no way 996T will fall to 50's, have you been on the turps mate ?

POST 34Original post

Quotes source post: 242676

As you know not all 996tt's are alike. Went for a spin in you ex car.  Got a good 10 to 15% extra butt  dyno go over my slightly tweaked 996tt which I reckon has a good 10 to 15% more butt dyno go over a stock one.  Bit of inspiration to push along getting delivery of Kevin's special  wheels and apply some of his magic on an old school bosch ecu box. Compared to a messed with 996tt,not convinced you can easily get a 997 tt spooling hard in the 1xxx rpm to 3500rpm range (996gt3's excel at that rpm range right) to make the car more streetable whilst at the same time monstering a stock 997tt on a dyno based on a more like for like budget.  But yes the 997tt is a better car in stock guise, but who buys and enjoys  stock boosted twin turbo's. Me reckons your ex car with tune and exhaust would outrun a stock 997tt series 1 or 2 and plenty of cash leftover in the pocket. Fits my definition of good value for money or bang for buck both in terms of dollars and butt dyno experience. PS Turbo T' s senses have  indeed been affected by the Turps and he appears to have done a massive u turn.  E.g. called me out two years ago for saying its non sense to be able to pick up  a clean 996tt for 100k and would need circa 150k.  Now saying best to get out now and offload my car for 6 figures whilst the going is good and break even (personally reckon it would take north of  125k even to have a inkling of  an itch to selling  mine.  Eg advertised price of 100k for a 996tt  to tyre kicking to adding up what's it going to take  to get the car up to scratch doesn't land you at a 6 figure advertised sticker price for those in the know and have tyre kicked a 996tt in recent times.  Now in two years time  two 996tt's for essentially 5 figures? (perhaps non runners)  E.g. cost of a good 996tt will be a similar cost to  a well rebuilt replacement mezger motor for a 996tt.  +1on a Turps call. Here I was 3km in my circa 3000km hike to work on Sunday and was pleasantly shocked to come across a  glimpse of a black 996 carerra with what appeared to be a gt3 rear wing on the side of the road with a big cardboard box sign with what I read as  41k taking up the entire  front windscreen and thinking that seems cheap  starting with a three number (circa 2 bitcoins) with some argy bargy and worth a tyre kick being so close to home to report back on.  Got to love old school advertising.

This is a car worth watching, I test drove it and it’s the one responsible for me ending up with a Turbo. With a few unknowns as to the work required, she was a bit too “driven” for me but very cool at the same time, having said that it’s a race car with an extensive history. This car is an animal with a built motor, big turbo’s, with boost that hits like a sledge hammer. Bit more info from my investigations. http://joelstrickland.com.au/blog/tag/porsche-996-turbo/ https://www.shannons.com.au/club/enthusiasts/speeddemon/garage/2001-porsche-996-turbo/ Latest outing. http://www.theadvocate.com.au/story/5235231/praise-for-new-look-event/

Two years in, and still absolutely loving my 997.1T (Manual, Cab) Only mod has been Cobb access port tuning module running the stage 1 tune. Dynoed at 300+kw at the wheels. Came from factory / dealer when new with short shift. Prices on these cars seem to have stabilised at $150k. Mine is unlikely to ever be sold.

129k for around 10mins between when I spotted it and it was bumped to 275k then marked sold/on hold.

POST 50Original post

Quotes source post: 251551

The surgeons car that was advertised initially for half the price last year to that  high 2 number. Just a view but as a seller do you take any offer subject to finance on a second car seriously without taking to your bank a non refundable deposit.  Interesting advertising strategy of memoralising  9 false starts previously.   Nicely tweaked, but seems strange sprouting   a vmax of 320km and 0 to 200 in 11 sec but  that its been driven conservatively relatively speaking.

Was the bottle ( missing a stubby holder or is it detailing product) on the  roof ( placed on the glass on sunroof ?????) left there when they reversed the car out of the driveway.  Yes, not  convinced of the choice of pics and attention to detail.

You have got a bit of catching up to go on running up the km's.  Appears  bulk of kms seem to have been circa 1600 km smt sessions on the weekend, week in, week out.  Eg eight hour days at an av speed of 100km/hr in the seat with lots of straight runs?  Perhaps a long term long distance  relationship was some  motivation for racking up the km's on the weekends, i.e how  else does one get permission for that amount of seat time from ones partner or have them sitting shotgun.
