Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Folks, I was wondering if anybody has ever replaced the spark plugs on a C4S 997.1? If yes, could you do it without dropping the engine? My car is reaching 40,000 miles and 4.5 years and it is time to change these parts. Any feedbacks, suggestions would be most welcome. Yves

POST 2Original post

You can certainly do it without dropping the engine but the mufflers will likely need to come off.

POST 3Original post

Not on a 997, but I have on my 996 which I would think would be very similar. I managed to do it without dropping the engine or removing the exhaust. It needed a lot of patience and an interesting array of socket extensions and knuckle joints. I recall that five of the six were relatively easy, but the forward-most plug on the left side of the car was a pain. Next time the mufflers will be coming off. Definitely don't need to drop the engine.
