Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

It appears that my plastic tabs were just badly worn, so I put a light dab of Shoe Goo glue on tabs, reinserted the bottom cover & taped tightly around the exterior using painters tape.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 2000 996. The driver side mirror bottom trim (black plastic) has come loose although still attached. There isnt a screw to tighten, etc, so Im wondering how to repair it? Or must it be replaced? Nothing appears to be broken, but its cheap plastic and not very hearty ☹️ Any assistance would be greatly appreciated 👍👍

POST 2Original post

3M Emblem adhesive works wonders and lasts for years. Maybe give it a shot.

POST 3Original post

I have the same issue and bought a replacement bottom cover. (only 8 euro's) I was wondering how to replace this part though. Should I first remove the mirrorglass and then the top painted mirrorcover? Or is there an easier way to just pop it on? I can find many videos for top cover removal etc, but I can find nothing about the lower plastic cover. Also not in the Bentley manual.

This video will walk you through it all. It's about 5 minutes long. Porsche 996 mirror and mirror cover removal - YouTube

POST 6Original post

Its so simple when someone who knows does a nice tidy little video! This should go in the diy section!

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you! It appears that my plastic tabs were just badly worn, so I put a light dab of Shoe Goo glue on tabs, reinserted the bottom cover & taped tightly around the exterior using painters tape. Two wraps was sufficient. Waited 24 hours to remove the painters tape and its held ever since. In the future, I may regret this choice if the motor fails and I have to get in there, but for now its all good. Thanks again for the video so when the passenger side fails, and you know it will, Ill know how to do it correctly 👍👍
