I can vouch for the quality of Milltek on a previous Audi S4 and also have had experience of poor Dansk quality on my old 944 where the first system we fitted on that blew all its insulation out!.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Has anyone replaced the system on their vehicle with the new original porsche exhaust or aftermarket unit. What is the likely cost? Are the original units made of stainless steel? My system had a split in it, which has been repaired by my OPC for now, but it probably won't last forever!

POST 2Original post

Just had my 2003MY 996 C4 cabriolet factory fit switchable sports exhaust replaced with a Dansk switchable. Supplied & fitted by Wrightune in Wallingford, Oxfordshire for £1840 including all clamps, hardware & VAT. Works and sounds great. Actually better than great; bloody wonderful!

POST 3Original post

I have dansk sport boxes on mine, plus 200 cel cats love it!!

POST 4Original post

I have Dansk 300S on mine, about £870 fitted OPC quoted £950 each..... Lovely sound & feels a little more responsive but they haven't got 12 years of carbon build up in them.....

POST 5Original post

Kasspa, I'd love to know where you got a Dansk for £870 please? My C4S needs the side silencers (might be called headers) for its MOT in July, I've been quoted double that price for supply and fit. Thank you!

POST 6Original post

Hi Peter, Tech9 price the 300.S at £686.00 part no. 1620601010, you will need fitting kit also. Mine were supplied & fitted by Dove House in Rushden last Autumn. Don't know where you're based but worth a call..... hth Paul

POST 8Original post

Cheaper places to buy............................[8D]

POST 9Original post

I have been quoted about 4 hours to install both sides, which is about the same cost as the parts. Does that sound correct?

POST 11Original post

I paid for 3 hours labour..... type911 prices exclude VAT & delivery so works out pretty much the same! what you paying for labour Peter? PM me

POST 12Original post

Save yourself the cost of a specialist and do it yourself! I swapped out mine myself, took maybe 3 hours but I'm no professional. Have had them off a few times now, to carry out mods etc and can probably do it in half that time now. No special tools required, just a socket set, spanners and a screw driver. You don't even need to jack the car up. You need to remove the rear bumper which is simple enough and top tip take the rear lights out first or your likely to damage them taking the bumper off. And don't forget to order new clamps As the old ones will most likely be heavily corroded. The tailpipe trims can be a tad troublesome to realign but patience pays off. POST 13Original post

Morning guys im a new member to PCGB. Just bought a 996 (2003) C4S and keen on upgrading to the PSE as my back boxes are starting to split. It’s a blessing in disguise as it’s an excuse to justify spending on a new exhaust system. My local specialist (tower Porsche, london, SE1) is recommending the dansk system (not the super loud one) but is there any others I can consider? Cost is not an issue as I want to do it properly. Been quoted 2-4 hours labour and £750 for the system with all clamps etc. Any suggestions on would be useful past: 997 (gen 1)

POST 14Original post

Hi, RPM had replaced the original PSE on mine, with Miltek. In their opinion, the sound was better and the boxes were much more durable and longer lasting than replacing with a like for like PSE. Only thing is, it's not switchblade, but doesn't bother me in the slightest

POST 16Original post

Help! My car is being serviced by an Indy at the moment and we cannot seem to find the source of the rattle that comes on under hard acceleration from 3k RPM. Belt has come off, pulleys checked (Water pump replaced as there was some play, bit noise still there). Now checking the exhaust, it is a higher pitched rattle that he thought would not be the exhaust. Running Dansk boxes and we are now swapping to a set of spare boxes to see if it is that, if not will be going back to the cats etc. My dear is that it is something back at the manifold end. Anyone have any experience of this, what it might be? How much for a whole new system? Bored by this problem and worried about the cost!

POST 17Original post

I have recently replaced the original silencer on my 2003 c2 with Dansk sports silencers. Very pleased, not overly loud , loads cheaper than oem. I paid 570 for the silencers and 200 to have them fitted including new clamps and sleeves. Very happy with the result.

POST 18Original post

I swapped my original Silencers for Dansk Sports silencers and had to change them back after 6 months as an internal weld failed which led to an annoying rattle. utter junk now have Designtek silencers much better.

POST 19Original post

So...... turns out it was an internal problem with the Dansk boxes (I hear this all of the time) and we chucked them away. Manifold etc was all fine. So I then had to decide what boxes to buy, ship to the Indy and then fit. After an hour of scouring everyone online I went for the Milltek Cup boxes which I got at a great price from Roadrunner (Milltek Dealer). I went back to pick up the car today and when I got there one of the mechanics said (as I went to open my car door). "That is the best sound I have heard from a 996. Ever" Drove it home and I just say, I agree. Not boomy or droney, nice and throaty when you want it to be and sensible when you don't. Coming up to 7k RPM it feels and sounds like a race car. Thanks to Martin, Harry and Oli at Portiacraft for sorting. Problem sorted, car is perfect. and I have a British made exhaust with a Lifetime Warranty! Keeping that receipt in a safe.

POST 20Original post

This week I've just replaced both rear silencers on my C4S with Milltek sport units. Lifetime warranty and Stainless steel cost £780 from my local supplier , Sounds great and with a deep burble .

POST 22Original post

Very nearly went for The Dansk super sound but i'd heard a few bad reports on them so I decided to go for the Milltek .

POST 23Original post

i had RPM replace my rusting exhausts with a Kline system - very nice - very loud. not switchable but thats ok with me!

POST 24Original post

Another vote for the Kline. Cheaper than OEM and sounds superb.

POST 25Original post

FWIW I had a new OEM switchable PSE put on my C4s by an OPC nearly a year ago. Okay it was a bit pricey but so pleased with it and its warranty plus proper button on the dash!!!!!

POST 26Original post

Price Reduced to £1400 must be a bargain Hello all, I have a full DesignTec valvetronic system including, high flow headers and 200 cell cats for sale. Complete with IPD plenum and 82mm throttle body. The Kit was fitted in 2018 to MY2004 996.2 C4S cabrio for approx 600miles, Due change in circumstances the car had to go and I took the kit off. Dyno testing before and after indicated +18bhp valves closed 24open. Quiet for the neighbours, fabulous on the open road! Cost new from Design911 was over £3000 for sale at £2000o ono. Now £1400 Some interesting observations from Dyno re air filter performance. thanks for reading GP.

POST 27Original post

For those with a Milltek exhaust - are you happy with the change? How does it sound compared to the OEM exhaust? Thanks Mark

POST 28Original post

Hi Mark , yes I can confirm after fitting a Milltek system to my C4S it sounds Great , Not to loud but just enough when you open the taps ?? regards Mark

POST 29Original post

Hi Mark , yes I can confirm after fitting a Milltek system to my C4S it sounds Great , Not to loud but just enough when you open the taps ?? regards Mark

POST 30Original post

Hi Mark, Mine was fitted pre-purchase, but as you may have seen above, what I like about the Miltek is: Looks. Looks fare better from the behind, than the PSE IMO, as two fatter pipes, than the orginal Noise. Although it isn't switchable, it purrs on idle and isn't offensive at low revs. Sounds great when it gets going I don't have much to compare it to, noise wise admittedly, but I'm happy Mark

POST 31Original post

Thanks both, seems like it'll be perfect for what I want. Time to go shopping!

POST 32Original post

Had mine changed to Miltek last year. Nice burble at low revs, quiet (fish) on motorway and sounds great when going

POST 33Original post

I fitted Miltek silencers to mine this weekend. They seem pretty decent quality as you’d expect from Miltek. They are very loud compared to the standard system. I certainly would not want it any louder. The noise is quite quiet cruising along but it kicks straight in as soon as you touch the throttle, even a little. It’s possible to drive about without making much noise but you’d probably have Nissan Micras trying to overtake you’d be going so slow. Fitting was a PITA tbh. Made harder by the fact I didn’t want to cut the old silencer mounting tabs but eventually I gave in and cut 1 off, the spacer was seized solid to the mounting bolt to the extent it split the spacer slightly at one end Due to the bolt expanding as it rusted. None of the mounting bolts had enough hex left on them to use a spanner so I expected a hard time. I spent around 6hrs including polishing the exhaust tips and refitting everything. With the new bolts fitted I reckon I could change it again in about 45 mins. For how long the back lights, bumper and side heat shields take to remove. Around 10 mins, I don’t understand why anyone would leave them on, even if the car is going on ramps. If you are planning doing a diy job I’d recommend new bolts, tip clamps and some metal tube 12mm OD with 8mm ID before you start. A Dremel with a grinding tip would probably be helpful too. I fitted new stainless bolts 2x m8 140mm and 2x m8 70mm which I’d ordered in advance With stainless nuts and washers. I fully understand why people get quotes for 4hrs labour. Especially if the exhaust has never been off.

POST 34Original post

I recently had an MOT advisory that both original silencers on my C4S were split so decided to replace/upgrade with Milltek Sports silencers. I looked at a diy install but wisely decided to have them professionally fitted by Northway Porsche. The sound is awesome as they are fitted to Designtek 200 Cell Sports Cats. Will probably upset the neighbours if I have an early morning start!

POST 36Original post

As mentioned in a previous post I recently had a Spyder Performance switchable stainless steel cat back system fitted to replace split OE back boxes on my C2. I can vouch for the high quality of the construction and the sound is pretty similar to OE with the valves closed and more like a GT3 with them open! There are also claims that the free flow open position gives around a 15-20 Bhp gain, but obviously I’ve no way of proving that! I believe these are quite new to the market but seem very good and was I thought a fairly reasonable £995 fitted. I can vouch for the quality of Milltek on a previous Audi S4 and also have had experience of poor Dansk quality on my old 944 where the first system we fitted on that blew all its insulation out!. Cheers Chris
