When we swapped over at the Anglesey track the next day for a few laps he then discovered how easy the Spyder is to drive and I discovered the new world of a road legal racing car without any electronic assistance!

To be honest I usually use one of the other cars for such a journey - but the wife needs the Alpina, I can't be arsed to take the roof bars off my L200 (thus not fitting in the car park) and the usual winter shed's MOT has just run out and I can't get it tested until Monday.

I class the Spyder as being a little more special than most of my previous weekend cars so am probably a little more protective over it.

hence if you cant get what you want for your car and not in need of the cash you might as well keep and enjoy on those occasions you do use,i mean they are not the most expensive cars to run as a second car/toy ie cheap insuranc/rfl and not bad on petrol on a run either and depreciation should be slow

dont know if this has been done before but since we have some new members having just purchased cars i thought it might be a good idea to start a register.i thought keep it simple no wrong or right seats/wheels just spyder or CR ,model year(2011 is a B on chassis number and 2012 is a C),colour and gearbox.also would be nice to know what county for meet ups.

Someone else asked about the MY differences - I believe only the steering wheel colour differs?
the roofs flew off and there was a recall and a upper speed limit set.
But yes not heard on any changes from 1st to last.
hankers after the GT3 RS 4.0 steering wheel....

I don't think the steering wheel change was even a model year difference. Barely any early cars had the silver trim on the steering wheel.
Mine was quite an early car and it had the black wheel. Had expected the silver, but quickly preferred the black.
Roof recall was very very early in production and just involved a different latch.
Other than that, there were no changes between year models.
All I can tell from this list so far is that we are all poor in the counties of Worcestershire Warwickshire and Gloucestershire to own any of them, the borders of each I live in or near. :-(

Rob200 that's the one, I bought it from the Pompey garage as purely a track toy, but I really love the little thing and occasionally take it for a 'plod' around...Bought it in October, it's already been down to the ring and racked up 6 track days, can't wait to get it back on the tracks next month!

The CR is my only car, and while mine hasn't made it to the track it has allowed me to scare old ladies as I not-too-subtley drive through town...

Seems you all have them, I've only seen two on the road - my friends which is a lovely blue and a silver one.....off to Google this white one - must be a beauty!

As everyone is listed here, is anyone interested in a meet at the 24hrs in June. Maybe you're already going or this would tip your interest in giving it a go.
It could be kept simple, just jumping on the back of the pistonheads meet, or pick another village for a drink and chat for an hour or so.
Slightly selfish motives as it is harder for me to do a meet in England, but it would be good to do.

You need to look harder and juggle these other commitments! No matter what it is just repeat 'I think you'll find the 24hrs is on that date'. No need for explanation or further comment. After years of training it works in my house. Sister even avoided the dates for her wedding planning!

Not sure if this was aimed at my post but if so, what I meant was that the B and C designation was meant to highlight model years, (2011 and 2012 respectively) allowing owners to state year of purchase separately. At least that's what I understood from the original post. So there was no need to amend the years in posts if I understood correctly hence my confusion.

Looks a great spec... And in my biased opinion, the best colour combo for it. Shame you need to sell.

Cant believe how little mileage some these cars do.....Ive done over 1000 miles in 3 weeks just attending car meets and weekend blats.
yes owned from new or to be correct 4 miles on the clock and preregistered to an opc for 2 weeks before i purchased.200+ of those miles were put on the day i collected new years eve 2011 to drive home from where i purchased.
a month after i bought it i smashed my heel while on holiday in thailand and could not drive for 10+ weeks then the weather was crap last year so being a sunny weekend car got very little use.this year hope to put a few more miles on it.
hence if you cant get what you want for your car and not in need of the cash you might as well keep and enjoy on those occasions you do use,i mean they are not the most expensive cars to run as a second car/toy ie cheap insuranc/rfl and not bad on petrol on a run either and depreciation should be slow
normally average about 3000 miles a year in my previous porsches i traded my just under 3 year old cayman with 8200 miles and my 5.5 year old 986S had 18k on the clock when traded,all have been 2nd cars/weekend toys where as my daily runner does 12k a year

Car sounds perfect. I probably should have gone for a Spyder at the time but I had absolutely no idea just how little time I would have to enjoy and therefore could have used for high days only. Having said that, the CR is more practical should it ever be needed for that purpose.
one of reasons i went for a spyder over thing else as its the perfect second car for high days and holidays and in a way offers another dimension with the soft top over something like a gt3 which was on my list .if i didnt have a garage i would have not bought any softtop as had a boxster before and got fed up with cats and foxes on the roof,so would have bought a caymanR

Yeah, I don't have the luxury of a garage, just a high quality cover, so can understand the problem with a soft top. If you ever decide to sell your motor, give me a shout, as I have someone interested in buying one when the right low miler comes up.

Under those rules of interpretation, I guess we're contravening the rules of posting by 'reigniting arguments that have ceased'... Not that this is an argument in as much as the debate was a for sale ad.
I did make one mention to the car being for sale, but the link I included was deleted within a few minutes after someone suggested it might be seen as self-promotion, but the thread itself got deleted hours later.
No big deal though, I respect the decision made by PH and understand to a certain extent. I guess someone reported it so fair enough.
In any case, I'll continue to consider my options; the weather is terrible so won't be out in it this weekend anyway, and I'm sure that will be the same for many CR/Spyder owners.
It's about to wazz it down here, forecast for lots of wind and rain this afternoon.
I'm about to get the Spyder out of the garage, pick a mate up, drive into the centre of Leicester, park in a s
thole of a multi-story, and then go and watch a game of rugby.
Cars are for using
I wouldn't particularly enjoy the Spyder in the wet and windy conditions we have at the moment so happier using the Saab. For me the Spyder is a fine day fun car and I enjoy keeping it sparkling. I class the Spyder as being a little more special than most of my previous weekend cars so am probably a little more protective over it.
To be honest I usually use one of the other cars for such a journey - but the wife needs the Alpina, I can't be arsed to take the roof bars off my L200 (thus not fitting in the car park) and the usual winter shed's MOT has just run out and I can't get it tested until Monday.
So Spyder it'll have to be...

Nursed it back home and so still had to take roof bars off the truck to use it!
Made it to the match in time though - phew.
So, now need a low entry jack to get the bloody wheel off and tyre repaired.
Tyre wasn't totally flat when I got home, so hoping a repair is possible.
That's bad luck indeed. Am sure you'll be fine assuming the puncture is nowhere near the sidewall.
I bought a kit to repair a puncture on my Nissan GTR and did it myself. Avoided the need to have the tyre removed. A good little extra to pop in your toolbox.

Was a cracking game!
The tyres have only done 9k miles and have loads of tread on them, so can't see why they both need to be replaced.
I certainly remember that one of the Volvo's were susceptible to diff damage if tyres with differing tread depths were used, but not sure in general.

The original Goodyears on my current car seem much more long lived than the PS2's on my old one. Amazingly they also seem to offer better grip at the rear.
How do you know they are the originals. Mine has Goodyear F1's and done 8,700 miles and the rears are down to 3mm but fronts are 4/5. Wondered if they might be original but who knows if car done 7,000 track miles before I bought it!?

My car has done 4000 miles and the Goodyears are showing less wear than my previous Spyder on PS2's at the same mileage. What is more notable to me is the better grip afforded by the Goodyears.

Went out with a couple of guys in the Scottish Border in the Spyder (decided to keep the 964 in the garage) in wet/damp conditions.
Had a fantastic time trying to keep up with 911's (996 C2, 996 GT3 Gen2, 997 C4S) but the Spyder proved to be more than capable of the job.
Must admit that being behind a GT3 had me thinking that the Spyder would be left for dust but it certainly kept it honest. Interesting seeing the difference the GT3 makes with slingshotting out of the corners whilst the Spyder was slightly faster going in and losing slightly coming out.
One of the images from the day where we had a little bit of better weather.
Luckily as the day went on we experienced some drier roads and had an absolute blast. Bring on the better weather.

Where in the borders did you go .the reason i was away the weekend with guys in the Tipec club and we went through Jedburgh on Sunday on the way up the A68 We had been away, and on the way home went through Keilder and there was a classic car show on there .
If you are interested the guys from PCGB are doing a fast run down to Moffat on Saturday 1st June leaving from Crutherland House East-Kilbride at 9ish . Wont be going myself as doing a charity car show that day but hope to get to the Thirstone show on the Sunday 2nd June

Route was Peebles, Moffat, Selkirk (via St Mary's Loch), Hawick, Nice detour toward Catcleugh Reservoir, Jedburgh, Kelso, Duns and finally Lauder.
Ahh, you were the one that picked up the immaculate Spyder. With the mileage you picked it up with, I suspect whether it has ever seen rain:-) You got a cracking motor there.
We did see a couple of Triumph's so the classic car meet would have explained it.
Thanks for the heads up on the PCGB meets, been meaning to join but been a bit to busy. Will see what the calendar is like closer to the time :-)

Tbh, I've always managed to conserve tyre life better than most, mine still look as good as new on 4,500 miles, so I guess I'm not driving it as it was meant to be driven! I think I managed 15k out of my M3 PS/2's once!!!
Anyway, car remains covered up with no more miles
On our little trip around the Evo Triangle a couple of weekends ago, the driver of the 996 GT3RS thought we were really pressing on and was amazed by the Spyders. When we swapped over at the Anglesey track the next day for a few laps he then discovered how easy the Spyder is to drive and I discovered the new world of a road legal racing car without any electronic assistance!
Incidentally, my Bridgestone tyres are on nearly 16k miles now and still don't need changing.

Just added myself as I hadn't seen this thread.
I'm in North Wales and I keep getting glimpses of another Cayman in Carrara White which looks like an R but never had a good enough look. I've seen it in Broughton, Dobshill Buckley and Queensferry.
Anyone on here?
