Read evidence and context

Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.

Suggestion

(Not miles, sorry, kilometers, up to 65535.) Run time of engine IIRC.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

If someone were to "interrogate the ECU" on a 996, what kind of information could they retrieve from it. Does it contain information regarding the highest speed the car had ever been driven? Or is it just things like fault codes...?

POST 2Original post

Quotes source post: 7733095

Not highest speed. Overrev counts. Miles driven since MIL shut off. Number of engine starts/warmups since MIL off (up to 255). Or if MIL on number of miles driven with MIL on. (Not miles, sorry, kilometers, up to 65535.) Run time of engine IIRC. In seconds or minutes I can't remember. "Real time" data consists of speed, rpm, engine load, MAF output, ignition timing, coolant temperature, air intake temperature, O2 sensor voltages, secondary air injection valve setting (upstread, downstream, atmosphere), and a few others. Not all cars support all of these first 32 OBDII Parameter Ids. But most do, enough of them anyhow, cause they're emissions related. With more sophisticated test equipment you can query the Ecu for lots more info. Oil temp, converter temps, and other stuff that escapes me. Sincerely, Macster.

POST 3Original post

From a recent PPI, I can confirm data logging for hours on the engine.

POST 4Original post

Look up a website called durametric and you'll see whats available from them at least

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks guys. I checked out http://www.durametric.com/default.aspx and called them and the cars do not appear to log what the top speed the car has reached. Just things like hitting the redline. Thank you all for your responses.
