So occasionally there is a high pitch sound for a second when starting. I thought it may be a fan belt or bearing. Had anyone had this issue.
You might want to check the serpentine belt and tensioner. If the tensioner is failing the belt will slip for a second or so on start up.
Thank you. I agree, it only has ^62K Miles but its 20 years old if original. Seems like changing it out is not bad once you get the fire wall/engine cover behind the seats removed.
At that time and mileage if the coolant pump hasn't been replaced it's definitely time to do the full service to include the belt, tensioner, pump and pulleys. Maybe thermostat too. It's not that bad of a job considering the benefit of having all those components updated.
Greetings,
My
2006 Cayman S
makes a noise as heard on a YouTube video "How to repair a noisy
Bosch
Starter Motor" If your noise sounds like this then I would lookat the starter. I plan to pull and inspect mine and repair or replace. I am doing the belt as well but not for a squeal but a slight belt slip smell from side vent and it is time for that service.
Good luck and regards
Do you have
PSE
? When the car starts the exhaust valves get vacuum and close. This often makes a little screech sound.
You can test by turning
PSE
on/off with the car running, you should be able to replicate the valve sound that way.
Greetings,
I replaced the starter,
AOS
and renewed the filter. The
AOS
was suspect because it did not smoke yet usedore oil than I thought normal usage. The starter squealed every 20 or so starts and usually after a long period without a drive. When I opened the engine bay the first thing I noticed was oil creeping out where the boots connected the intake pieces. Once i got the intake apart there was oil film all over inside. Felt pretty certain
AOS
was failed or failing. No codes so it was not to that stage yet. Once the intake and
AOS
were out I could get to the bottom bolt of the starter. Before installing new starter I bench tested. As hard as it was to remove no need in taking a chance on the new one not working it was good and went right in. Bench tested the old and the second time I energized it squealed as it reseated so I think the rear bear/bushing was dry or failing.
AOS
went in fine and when everything was buttoned up I reinstalled the driver seat, which I just recovered with cover sewn to factory pattern. They look great and really brought the 20yo interior new life. I reconnected the battey to no faults except for
PASM
which cleared in 20-30 yards and the windows had to relearn teir routine. I placed folded towels over front and rear latches to prevent inadvertent closure. All in all not too tough job wise and huge payoff! Hope everyone is well, happy motoring!
Cheers,
R
