After finishing up the shifter cables and a few other things like installing
Cayman
R rear sway (21 mm vs. the stock 19 mm) along with Technobrace and removing wheel spacers I got lazy and reused the extended wheel bolts (previously had 14mm spacers). Long story short those bolts will compress on the parking brake and lock the wheels
Found this out when I started the car, put it in reverse and realized I could not move the car. After an initial panic checked the shifter movement (all gears accessible so not the cables) so moved to the parking brake (felt weirdly felt weirdly stiff which indicated an issue there). Before I took apart the console to see if somehow the new cables were interfering with the parking cable I decided to swap over to the stock wheel bolts. As soon as removed a few of the extended bolts the wheel started rotating freely and parking brake was back to normal. Doesn’t look like there was any permanent damage either as everything is working as normal. Come to think of it this could make a good anti theft feature

Same thing happened on my MB.. I bought spacers and the studs that came with them were longer (5mm) than they needed to be… I backed up and heard this raw click-click noise… immediately knew what it was and ordered the correct length… then yelled at the vendor…
I have 7mm spacer length studs on my front (
Porsche
) using 3mm spacers and that seems okay
Newold- How does the R aprings and the
Koni shocks
work. I never saw your review. Yes, those lug bolts were rubbing against the rear hand brake pads. I used a pressure washer on my under body a couple of years ago and let my car sit for a few days with the hand brake on. Well the brake shoes welded to the drum and when I used reverse, the car did not move, so I added throttle and bingo, I pull out eh retaining springs on the hand brake shoes. Cost me $300 to have new springs put back in. Seems that certain type of plyers are necessary to pull the spring retainers through that hole.
I learned a lesson about pressure washers and suspension parts, its a no no.
yeah, the parking brake adjuster is also through one of the bolt holes and I suspect the longer wheel bolts pinched it and clamped the drums
loving that R spring + Koni combo, very comfortable and composed. Here is the thread I have:
Koni Sport + Cayman R suspension
edit: yesterday was also the first time where I used the wheel hangers I got and what a relief not to mess with trying to hold the wheel while trying to start the bolt. Not sure why I waited this long!
Do you plan to sell the spacers and the extended wheel bolts you removed?
I personally just ended up upgrading to studs instead of wheel bolts. I run extended studs on mine from APEX and don't need to worry about the length of my wheel bolts.
I’ve been considering this. I ran studs on my Bimmers and it was a lot easier doing wheels swaps.

Yes, I’ve listed locally in CL but no interest so far. Where are you located?
Yes, this thread is two years old, but the exact same thing happened to me yesterday. Swapped out my nasty old lug bolts with a set of shiny, black Amazon specials (only about $4 each!) and suddenly my car refused to move an inch. Took me a few minutes to figure it out.
Unrelated but kinda not - this thread reminded me of a time when I was 17 or 18 and replaced the brakes on my first car, got it back on the ground, and went to sleep for the night. I pulled out of the driveway, got down the block, and realized that the insane wobbling in the steering wheel was because I neglected to torque the lug nuts 😅
Live and learn!
