Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Having had my 991.2 broken into, but fortunately not stolen. I m thinking of getting a Ghost II fitted and an obd lock. Has anyone experienced problems with either the Ghost II or obd locks. Can anyone recommend an obd lock that is available in the UK

Not had a Ghost on a Porsche, but have one on another car after having a previous car stolen.
There's not a lot to go wrong with them, they work by scrambling the canbus system IF the correct code ISN'T used.
The only issue I've had, is taking the car in for a service, forgetting to notify the service advisor of the Ghost, then getting a phonecall off the service advisor 3 hours later saying The car won't start, does it have a Ghost ? ...
This has one benefit : You know when they started the service/work on your car.
The downside is : You're left wondering why you bothered getting the car to them at sparrow's fart, if they're they not going to bother starting on it earlier ...

Yep! I have a tracker tab in mine - despite the early drop off, mine was left on an industrial estate for two days before they looked at the fault code. And then just cleared it, did not investigate at all. Porsche main dealer.
Sorry OP to drift your thread.

If you have a car with a Ghost and they b*stards really want the car they will simply come after you or a loved one
Agreed
+ if you get issues with the car / can bus then the dealer will first ask you to remove it
+ they can void warranties
+ I (&others) would simply not buy a car with a Ghost, for reasons above

Mine was installed prior to my collecting what was a manufacturer approved used car.
The installation was undertaken ON the main dealer's premises using a Ghost approved installer who undertakes all that dealer's Ghost installs at their premises.
I spoke to him prior to the installation, he assured me that prior to installing any Ghost immobilisers on the marque in question, he'd liaised with the technicians at the dealership (to establish the ideal and optimal places to splice into the various models can bus systems)
The Ghost has been on the car a couple of months short of 4 years now. I've not had ANY issues with it/the installation whatsoever.

Irrespective, it voids warranty and will put off some buyers .
No it doesn’t void the warranty unless the installation can be shown to have caused an issue with the car’s electrics.
The buyer of my previous car saw it as an advantage. I had offered to have it removed.

If it’s a problem with the electrics then it’s instantly murky, some might, id not touch with a barge pole.
Just cut an ignition wire and link it to a two-position hidden switch under the driver's seat. One position links live to the ignition for driving, the other position links live straight to the horn. Result is that if the switch isn't switched the car won't start and the horn sounds. I doubt Mr Criminal will be strongly motivated to stick around and investigate what's going on.

At the moment, my main concern is keeping the car safe. By that logic, would anyone avoid protecting their property simply out of fear of retribution?
OPC's in the past had no problem installing them but they changed this with the 992 IIRC. They don't do them in-house but send them out...anecdotally, a number of SA advised that they have had issues so decided to stop doing it.

When I enquired Ghost would only allow their own authorised agents to fit the systems. Maybe the OPC’s used Ghost authorised installers.

Correct, the SOP with the "approved" third-party products like trackers etc. My understanding is that they won't offer this anymore for Ghost.

Same - Porsche can be very fastidious about what might and might not void the warranty. Even aftermarket grilles on the front of the car!

It's not retribution Ghost simply makes the human the vulnerable part of the chain however I agree that it's not your everyday car thief that will go this route and is unlikely to happen.
Have you thought about a Metatrack? I've got one on both my GT3 and E63s. Has a full immobiliser too. Good app with a slider for the immobiliser. I've had a few calls from the tracking centre so I know they monitor it. Doesnt void any warranties either.
