And if you've got an ELM327 and 20 minutes in the driveway, real-world OBD testing on 987.1 or 987.2 would be a huge help.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey all, Long-time Boxster/Cayman wrencher. I built FLAT·SIX as a proper garage tool when spreadsheets and random bookmarks stopped cutting it — first for my 981 , and it's now fully built out for the 987 ( Cayman , Boxster , and Spyder ). Figured I'd share it here since it's purpose-built for our platform. Huge thanks to @deilenberger — without his help on 987.1 vs 987.2 differences, maintenance material, workshop manuals, and real-world photos, the 987 side wouldn't be anywhere close to where it is. Seriously appreciated. What it does: Service history — log every job with line items (part numbers, costs, notes). Structured, not a text dump. Service planning — build upcoming jobs with linked how-to references, tick items off as you go, start a record directly from a plan. Multiple vehicles — keep separate garages, histories, and plans (e.g. your 987.1 daily and a 987.2 project car). Fault codes & fault finding — 249 OBD codes (SAE J2012 + platform-specific), symptom search, and 28 known 987 issues with severity — scoped to 987.1 vs 987.2 (M96/M97 vs 9A1, Tiptronic vs PDK, IMS concerns, AOS, RMS, HPFP, etc.). 3D model viewer — interactive exploded view + X-ray internals (engine, airflow, brake/fuel/oil lines, electrical, and more). Per-component detail views; some assemblies show internals sketched. Dedicated Spyder exterior model. Knowledge base — specs, maintenance intervals, service procedures, known issues (with sources) — all kept strictly per-generation so 987 data never bleeds into 981. Torque specs, wheel fitment & alignment calculators — workshop-manual grounded. AI assistant (optional) — Claude integration via MCP that can read your garage, look up specs/faults/manuals, and log service records from natural language. Live OBD — plug in a standard ELM327(~$15 USB or Classic Bluetooth) and get: Live data (RPM, temps, throttle, MAF, load, trims, O2, timing, speed…) Fault codes in plain English — stored, pending, permanent — with likely causes, symptoms, and diagnosis steps scoped to your generation Mode 06 on-board monitors (misfire counters, catalyst efficiency, O2 response…) Beyond the engine ECU (beta) — read-only scan of other modules (Tiptronic, ABS/PSM, airbag, cluster, HVAC…) for their fault codes. Still experimental — 987.1/987.2 owners, I'd love help verifying what responds on real cars. Save session data and open it in your AI tool to investigate ⚠ Adapter note: a $15 USB or Classic Bluetooth (SPP) ELM327 works. BLE-only dongles (iPhone-app style) won't. How to run it: Chrome/Edge + USB dongle — Web Serial, no install Desktop app (Win/Mac) — USB + Classic BT built in PWA — installable; garage data works offline Completely free, no ads, no subscriptions. Open source on GitHub. Optional account via Supabase so your data is yours — but you can poke around without signing up. 👉 https://www.flat-six.org GitHub: GitHub - dmitry-grechko/flat-six Happy to answer questions. Would love feedback on the 987 data — especially known issues, maintenance intervals, and anything that doesn't match your car. And if you've got an ELM327 and 20 minutes in the driveway, real-world OBD testing on 987.1 or 987.2 would be a huge help.

I love this, but being an iphone user all I get is blue balls?!?! 2008 Base Boxster . Way to go man, looks amazing.

@AztroRover thank you! You can use the entire app from the iphone (except for obd as we don't yet have a separate IOS app) it's fully mobile optimized + there is a separate downloadable mac app

POST 4Original post

This is very cool! Thank you for your work on this. How about a reporting module to get some printouts. What's the long term plans for this? Which USB adapter is required for live data as a lot say they are for specific cars?

POST 5Original post

thank you! Long term plan is: 1. add more generations and models ( cayenne , 911 , panamera , etc) 2. iOS and Android apps + track day app (taking obd data and merging it with video analysis etc) 3. Deeper OBD functions and analysis 4. More accurate and detailed xray view (looking for 3D modeling help on this) - the goal is to map all internals 5. Keeping it free and open source 6. Getting more ideas and feedback and grow this way 7. Partner up with PCA or other community leaders Printout module - great idea, adding on the roadmap on GitHub fun fact on usd adapters - any good ELM327 works for it. Here is the one I’ve used ($15): Amazon.com: ELM327 USB Adapter OBD2 Scanner for Windows, ELMconfig FoCCCus Diagnostic Scan Tool with MS-Can/HS-Can Switch for Ford Lincoln Mazda Mercury Series Vehicles : Automotive since I can’t/don’t want to bypass Porsche’s security it can only read and reset codes for now though
