New to me 987.2 Boxster needed everything wear / time, item replaced, refilled, bled, polished, etc. and of course,
TIRES
.... !!!. with the 18 inch rim / tire option I used door sticker Tire pressure to start off and wondered what TIRE pressure I was going to need in real life to keep my new
tires
from becoming trashed quickly. Previous experience on my other cars 928,
911
, 914, doesn't help So I thought I would ask as many of you that are outfitted similarly, and willing to share your magic tire pressures, what pressures in your experience, have made your
tires
seem to last the longest... It will be educational at best to see the variations or if the numbers show averages in a larger group of experience...
Target participants will be 987.2 with 18 inch option, with recommended stock sizes. You might also mention tire makers name as some tread patterns might make a difference. Lets be clear I am seeking regular slightly spirited driving, not racing pressures.
Many Thanx......
987.2 here... 18"... I just go by the door label and haven't had any issues with uneven wear. Obviously, you need to ensure the alignment is good, but the door label is fine for DD and spirited driving (I do a lot of the latter!). I'm using
Conti
DWS06
tires
, which are a little softer on the sidewall than other similar brands of
tires
... some find it's "too soft" so I could see raising it a few PSI, but not much.
While driving spirited, I see pressures at about 36psi, which I see is what track users suggest as the hot-pressure... which tells me I'm in the ballpark at least!
Slightly different here than schwinn, but same
tires
. I’ve settled on 33F/34R or maybe 1psi more to get the balance of comfort and handling on the same
Conti
dws06 for my daily driving duties.
The car had some Sumitomo HTR z5
tires
that I ran at stock pressure which lasted ok for the class of tire they were, but when removed were wearing more in the middle, then the inside was next worn, and finally the outer edge wear bars had the most life left. Nothing crazy different, though. Got almost 20k out of those
tires
.
I haven’t given up much with the DWS
tires
that I wasn't able to get most of back with adjusting the tire pressure slightly.
