Hi all, first post after lurking for awhile. I am a 25-year-old engineer in North Idaho, and after months of research and, losing some great 987 builds on the auction sites, I know exactly what I am looking for: a
987.2 Cayman S
with the 6-speed. Hydraulic steering, the 9A1, three pedals. That is the whole list.
Part of what is driving this: the roads outside my door are the kind these cars were built for. Mountain passes with real switchbacks and elevation, river-valley sweepers, long byways through national forest, and almost nobody on them. Whichever car I end up with is going to live on canyon runs, PCA events at our local track, and road trips to Glacier and Yellowstone. It wont sit in a garage as a queen.
What I am looking for:
2009-2012 Cayman S, 6 speed manual only
Clean Title
Under 80k miles preferred, but condition and history matter more than the odometer
Service records are a big plus, water pump, AOS, and carbon cleaning documentation especially
Sport Chrono, sport seats, full leather, LSD, PASM/coilovers are all bonus points, none are dealbreakers
Open on color, partial to darker metallics and the classic brights
As a buyer: funds ready, quick to close, easy to reach. I am buying a long-term keeper to drive and gradually build, not a flip. I will fly anywhere in the country for the right car and drive it home, and honestly I would rather buy from an owner who knows their car's story than win another auction.
If you are thinking about selling, even loosely or somewhere down the road, I would love to hear from you. PM anytime.
Thanks, Jace
Hey
@Poorsche Owner
, welcome to the forum! It sounds like you've got the perfect roads in North Idaho for the exact 987.2 you're hunting for. You mentioned losing out on a few builds on auction sites—were there any particular colors or options on those that you especially liked? Sharing a bit more about the ones that got away might help a potential seller here know if they have the right car for you.
ADMIN NOTE: FS, WTT, WTB, etc. all really belong in the Marketplace. That's done for the protection of our members (theres both a time and post limit in place before you can post in the Marketplace.)
In this case - I see no real risk in allowing this post to stay up, at least until someone complains about it. My only warning to anyone responding is exercise due diligence. Make certain funds have been transferred, titles and insurance transferred or cleared. Do it right and there shouldn't be an issue - but that is NOT a promise on my part, it's just a suggestion of how to procede.
@Poorsche Owner
(Jace), good luck on your search. I found my Boxster on a forum listing - a mention by a chap within a reasonable distance of me who was thinking of selling his 987.2. He did. I bought it, and continue enjoying it 6 years later. So it is possible someone knows of one that might meet your needs. There is one place near me that does deal in some very nice used Porsches - I'll have to see if he has anything hidden away. He typically sells via Bring-A-Trailer, but I suspect he wouldn't be averse to a private sale.
There is a 2010
Cayman S
6 speed on BAT right now.
It took me about six months to find the right
987.2
. I was searching the ******** marketplace and PCA Mart nearly daily, along with Craigslist, BaT, C&B and all the rest. Finally, I signed up for alerts on Cars.com for the exact years and model I was looking for and found my car that way. Ended up not being far from the OP in Kennewick, WA (I live on the western side of WA, about 250 miles away). Meteor Gray, 36k miles, 6-sp,
PASM
, full leather,
LSD
, but mine is a base model as bore score concerned me in the 3.4-liter cars. Spending as much as I paid for the car on a new engine was out of the question.
All this to say, it doesn't cost anything to give Cars.com a try. You might luck out.
