Stock or stock replacement pads work fine on the street - if you want to go aftermarket, I would recommend Hawk HP+, I have experience with them and they work well.

Suggestion

You're not going to change bushings unless they are the trans mounts - with the bushings in the suspension, its FAR easier and the price impact is small to just replace the whole arm the bushing is attached to.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello all, newbie here. I typically dwell in the muscle car world and the motorcycle world (raced motorcycles for 10 years), but I am about to piovi up a 00 Carrera 4 cabriolet for what I believe is a great price . The car has 41k miles so I am most likely going to refresh the suspension and brakes. Suspension : did some homework and it appears the best bang for buck is the bilstein B8 + hr springs. Since Ill be in there, I was thinking polyurethane bushings . Which ones should I do? Whats there , I have never worked on a 911. Brakes : SS brake lines, and what pads do yall recommend ? Spirited driving, no track usage, I have my Aprilia for that .

POST 2Original post

41k miles? It would be strange if anything needed replacing on suspension side of things unless you hear clonking noises or rattles. I'd check if the shock absorbers are leaking and replace them if they are. Check bump stops and replace if torn or when you notice abrasive wear. I would not use PU bushings on a Cabrio, risk of creaking too high and for what purpose? It will never handle ike a coup would. Same reasoning wrt HR springs and Bilstein B8. If you want to lower the car to RoW height just replace the springs or maybe even just the spring pads (don't know how porsche achieves increased ride height on US models).

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

41k miles + 22 years old is why I want to change the bushings and shocks, not just 41k miles, plus It sounds like a fun project; Ill get to see everything under there but I guess you are right, not really worth going the poly route. Its a pretty standard thing on vintage cars, I am almost pre-programmed to go that route. On the subject of handling like a coupe, Im not sure thats what I was going for, just simply get her to handle as best as possible + since its awd im sure itll do just fine against most coupe anything.

POST 4Original post

Before you change anything not already known as bad... Put on a set of nice tires and give it a couple rips on your favorite back roads. The grippy tires will help expose worn suspension parts. There are nice kits for overhauling the suspension or you can attack individually. You're not going to change bushings unless they are the trans mounts - with the bushings in the suspension, its FAR easier and the price impact is small to just replace the whole arm the bushing is attached to. I really don't know anything about making a cab handle and still ride acceptably nice - but I think your plan to make sure the bushings are all good and lower with the B8's and HR springs seems like a solid one... assuming you do number 1 on my list and put good tires on it, like PS4S good. SS lines are a waste, no need. Stock or stock replacement pads work fine on the street - if you want to go aftermarket, I would recommend Hawk HP+, I have experience with them and they work well.

interesting, on a motorcycle SS lines are night and day, and same goes for a vintage car but I am realizing now we are talking about mechanical brakes vs power assisted. I would have never guessed. Thanks for saving me the time.
