Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

I gave it a good pull and retried and lo and behold it worked.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just tried to gain access to the engine bay, however the lever to access it doesn't do anything. Is there any other way to open or share some advice on what to check for. The lever appears to have no resistance when pulled

POST 2Original post

Thin trim tool or card - scoop out emergency release cable underneath left light enclosure.

POST 3Original post

Have you tried to pushing down on the lid and trying the lever again..? Sounds weird but my colleague's lid had an issue, as did his " bonnet ".

POST 4Original post

If the lever has no resistance, start at the lever end. Remove the trim and check whether the cable nipple has popped out of the handle. If it has, you may be able to pull the cable manually with pliers. If the cable is still attached there, it may have snapped or come off at the latch end. Don’t force the lid. There is an emergency rear lid release cable, but its location can vary, so worth checking with photos for your exact 996 model year before pulling trim apart.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I lifted the lever and saw the cable. I pulled up on the cable with my finger to check if it was loose, but seemed OK. I gave it a good pull and retried and lo and behold it worked. I tried it a few times and again today and all good. Maybe just sticky for whatever reason. It had just been in for a service, so not sure if the issue was just coincidental. Where/how do I find the info for the emergency release?
