The main brake light is part of the rear lamp cluster, so I’d check the bulb, holder, reflector and lens condition first.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Noticed today I have one segment out on the spoiler brake light and the main body one is quite faded is there a LED upgrade and are they both the same ? Cheers

POST 2Original post

No, they’re not the same part. The spoiler light is the separate high-level brake light unit, so if one segment has failed it usually means replacing that unit. The main brake light is part of the rear lamp cluster, so I’d check the bulb, holder, reflector and lens condition first. LED options exist, but I’d avoid cheap aftermarket unless fit and warning-light behaviour are confirmed.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My 996 has 2 high level brake lights or 3rd brake lights spoke to Porsche today they are the same design 911 do a clear version so may go for that cheers

POST 4Original post

If you take them out the bulbs are old and are all held in place by their copper connectors. This oxidises/gets dirty. You can remove them easily and clean the connectors and bulbs, it worked for me. Just be aware the plastic holder for the screws at each end can be quite brittle. I keep meaning to update mine to the led version.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So home tonight stripped both light they are identical but both shot very brittle so 2x new LED clear units ordered from design 911 cleaner look

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

POST 7Original post

Thanks for the post - must sort a replacement for mine (working ok but looks a bit worn).
