Suggestion
Try adjusting the HVAC settings to see if increasing fan speed influences the noise.
Leading evidence: 'Adjust hvac settings' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). It is worth checking for debris before you you replace it.

I expect you can get the fan working just by using WD40 on the bearing.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all,
I've done a thread search and looked at 996 technical articles but I cannot find anything about a noisy internal ventilation motor/fan. Its getting quite intrusive now, even at low fan speed settings. Is checking/changing this simple or involved? Would apprecoate some guidance.
Many thanks, Simon
It might be debris in the fan blades, which I have heard of happening on more than one occasion. Take out the pollen filter and take a look in the opening. You might find something stuck in the fan. Other than that, if you want the instructions on how to remove the fan, drop me a PM with your email address a,d I'll extract them from the workshop manual.
Actually, I'm so sorry. I did a google search and found out its very simple on Pelican Parts. Its mainly a question of getting the correct part. There is a difference between 1998 and 1999 MYs. I have 1998.
Hi Simon
the part No is 996 572 903 03 but Porsche will want £450+vat. [

You should be able to get one of ebay for £50/60

Cheers Andy. EU spares currently out of stock. Will try clearing the pollen filter and pulling the fan out for inspection. It looks very straightforward....then will give Douglas Valley a go.
Cheers chaps!

It's quite straight forward to remove, but you need to remove the glove box to get access to it. You can find some steps here:

I had a similar issue a few years ago & found some insulation material had peeled away from the flap above the HVAC motor & below the pollen filter. Removing the debris fixed the issue.
My fan went noisy and then quit a couple of years ago , I got a replacement from Euro Car parts , it was the same make as the original , the only difference was the connection for the loom ( different plug) this came from the OPC , I brought 2 just in case , delivered for just under a £10.00 , easy fit , you just have to get up personal with the passenger footwell ! My car is a 99my.

Mine went noisy last year until it stopped completely.
The fan housing can be dropped passenger side - only two screws hold it in place. You may need to take a third out to pull lower dash for space and all has to be done on your back.
I expect you can get the fan working just by using WD40 on the bearing. Mine is working fine now. Note the fan is similar to VW/Seat/Skoda part.
This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
