I think the most important thing to change and at least every year is the air filter and a lot of dealers across the cars I have owned don t both to replace if miles are low hence I now always do my self and clean the airbox out at the same time which is another thing they don t both to do even if they replace the filter!

So the shuffling on the driveway continues. I'm now looking GT4s (982 variant). I've been in my friends and I've test driven one, so now I'm trying to work out what's important in terms of options (I know this is personal though...) and have a couple of other questions.
Are smokers pack as an option that common? I would hate to think a car has been smoked in, but the dealer supplying the one I've driven said that it was a common option due to it adding an additional power point in the cabin.
Was the Clubsport package, just the roll cage or where there other changes to the car?
I assume re-trimming an Alcantara wheel is no different to re-trimming a leather wheel? This one has a yellow line at 12 o'clock and it looks worn out and tired.
One thing I've noticed, is that a lot of the manual cars have had lots of owners, most of the ones in the Porsche network at 4+ owners. Is there a reason for this? Are they typically ordered to get into the GT order club? (This is exactly what happened to my mate!)
Also, anything else in general that's worth looking out for?
Smokers pack was optioned by many on 981/718 as a way of getting the extra 12v socket.
GT cars tend to have many owners due to flippers and those who want their sports cars to drive like saloons.
Options apart from the ceramic brakes don t alter the driving experience but even then there is for and against.
Most importantly you need to know what seats suit you best as the 918 style buckets not every one gets on with.
Manual or PDK is personal but for me the manual is the one to go for and most likely more sort after in the future.
Finally take your time looking for the right car and don t be afraid to go private if it s the right car and has warranty and avoid garage queens as they will be the most problematic if keeping long term.
Depending on how you use the car ie not doing track days then the 4.0 GTS maybe a better fit and 95% of a gt4 only difference negligible hp , suspension (the sports suspension on GTS is not bad in comparison)and some spoilers.Still some new cars out there with deals to be had coming up to end of year( double digit % discounts should be obtainable)
I would also add avoid tracked cars as not all are treated with mechanical sympathy.
As well as a roll cage the Clubsport option includes a fire extinguisher and a harness on the driver’s side. The chassis is slightly different to incorporate the mounting points for the roll cage. I have owned a Clubsport and non Clubsport (both with bucket seats) and barely noticed the roll cage during normal road use.

Thanks. The one I've driven had a roll cage but no fire extinguisher or harnesses. Was that an configuration that could be optioned?

Thanks, very useful.
Manual is the only non-negotiable option for me. The one I've driven was manual and it's very nice. It also had the buckets which were very nice, much nicer than the standard ones on my Alpine (I optioned the comfort seats in that).
I've mulled over the GTS as an option, but I won't want the Cayman as I'd go towards the Boxster as it'll add something different. I will hopefully track the car a couple of times a year.

I think that the harness and fire extinguisher are fitted by the supplying OPC. I have heard of cars where they have not been fitted, but they should still have been supplied with the car because they are included in the Clubsport option. For example, Lewis Hamilton sold his GT4RS last year and neither of these items were fitted, but were supplied as part of the sale
https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/2022-porsche-7...
Note that only the driver’s side harness lis supplied as standard with the Clubsport package; passenger side harness was available as another optional extra.

The harness(s) and the fire extinguisher are delivered with the car in a box, and can be installed free of charge at the time of delivery. If the harnesses are subsequently installed by an OPC, it is an expensive job, because the seats need to come out.

That's interesting. I didn't have the greatest feeling about the car I drove. It's missing an MOT and this is another little oddity.
BAMoFo said:

A counterpoint: I occasionally noticed the roll cage in mine because it would sometimes flex with a fairly loud “donk” noise. The first time I heard it I thought something expensive had failed! Then I realised the car was no different, did some googling, and discovered the flexing roll cage noise.
Harness(es) and the bracket and the extinguisher can all be sourced for a clubsport that doesn’t have them, but they aren’t cheap, and as has already been said the seats have to come out to fit the harnesses as the anchor points are welded to the chassis.
And the harnesses are not recommended for road driving unless you never ever have to lean forward at a junction to get a sight line.

No doubting your knowledge but do we actually know this was Lewis Hamiltons car?
Hey there, I just got a GT4 (with clubsport), harnesses and fire ex I have separate and they are boxed upstairs in the house.
I was rather fortunate to get this, right place, right time. for me options that are needed -
Carbon Seats - amazing
Sports Exhaust - always a must
Alcantara, full spec with red or yellow stitching
Mine has Xenon (would have preferred Blacked LED's), LEDs would have been perfect
PDK - just love a PDK
non PCCB, I don't intend to track and pricey if something goes wrong
its 2023 - so has CarPlay, I added in a wireless adaptor
I am sure there is other spec, just can't remember
Mine has been ceramic coated 2 years ago, had 1200 miles (now has 2100), fully blacked out, carbon interior, dual climate, clubsport with roll cage, So have 34 month warranty remaining for piece of mind.
Sold a 992 C2S last year, was waiting/looking and this GT4 popped up at local OPC and I was one of many who wanted. Exceptional, weighted very well, noise amazing, low tech, very low and the fact it's black is crazy looking yet understated at the same time. Better driving car that the 992 C2S (just lack of back seats)
This might be a keeper and I am on list for a 992.2 turbo, but I might keep this for a long time. I plan to drive all year, so might change the tyres to PS4S in time.
If you find the right one - buy it!

Before thinking about retrimming, get it properly clean. Alcantara is incredibly hard-wearing, so if it's starting to look worn out, it's generally just the fibres getting matted together with dirt. They take an awful lot of wearing out.

I don't think so. I gather Taycan orders are the common currency for getting into the GT order club, although I somehow got there without that.
The manual ones are more likely bought as a weekend car, and people tend to change those more frequently and at lower mileage. That would be my guess.

Is it possible to add a Porsche warranty to a non-OPC sourced car? Or is there a better option out there for a warranty?
ThisInJapanese said:

Either look for a car that has the warranty which is transferable at sale or get the owner to add as part of sale.
To add yourself after sale involves the 111 point check and any flagged items to be rectified before warranty can be added, it’s costly so finding a car with is preferable.
Same rules apply if a non OPC is selling a car unless it’s on SOR with a Porsche warranty.
If buying from an OPC it’s a good time to buy, as end of year discounts can be had as dealers will want to achieve end of year targets
Weren't manual cars first out on 718 GT4. Hence more flippers as early purchased flipped and then, as pdk arrived, people sold to move to that.
Manual box on 981 GT4 ad 718 GT4 a thing of great loveliness!

- All cars have a/the "sports exhaust".
- The Extended Alcantara/Race-tex & leather option came in 3x stitching colours. Silver/grey, yellow, or red. Yellow or red was priced c£400 higher than the silver/grey option.
- LED's weren't blacked. Bi-Xenon came in standard or £900 for the tinted/blacked version. LED's are totally transparent with no blacking/tinting at all.
- All cars come with CarPlay,.
OP have you considered the 981 Gt4. IMO and of many others the 981 is the better car. The race series actually uses the 981 engine not the 718 it has no GPF so makes a much better sound and feels more rawer. Also the 718 was made in a lot larger numbers and was more about sales than to build a car that qualifies for GT4 series.
The engine was restricted so not to encroach on the 911S but this can easily worked around and 430hp is obtainable with a few mods.
Personally i think it will be a classic and more sort after than the 718.

I have considered it, but have found myself leaning towards the 718, but I do get what you're saying about the 981. Initially I was drawn to the 718 as it's not as raw, which made it more liveable.
After the drive of one at the weekend, I drove home and thought to myself that at lower speeds the GT4 isn't leaps and bounds different to my Alpine A110 (clearly when you push on it's leagues apart, but for normal driving, there isn't a great deal in it). So, oddly I've been nosing around the Spyder over the last few days, as having a soft top would make it more likely to even the most boring drives enjoyable (I had a 986 Boxster S for a few years, and never grew tired of the roof being down).
Back to your point though, there is an interesting looking 981 in Swindon that could be worth a look at.
GT4P said:

Only if you bundle PDK and manual numbers together for the 718.
981 Manual v 718 Manual, there isn't that much of a difference in the build numbers.

I went from 718 GT4 to 718 Spyder and glad I did. The GT4 was a great car and really enjoyed my time in it but I don't do track days and most of my miles are either sunny Sunday mornings or Euro tours. The Spyder is a bit softer and just feels more special at "normal" road speeds.
The GT4 felt like I was only benefiting from it's ability if I was pushing on which isn't always possible on the road.
You'll be happy with either one!

Meant blacked xenons - LEDs have tinted option in 911 992, which I had before
PSE - wasn't sure if thats an option or nor, so std then
The CarPlay was only wired, same as was on my Macan GTS, the Ottobox plug in a great wee thing - very good value
Was the extended Alcantara an option? there seems a lot everywhere, even the the 12 o'clock steering wheel red inset seems extra
Lots of Carbon also - surely that was a pricey extra
Individual Climate control - was that standard on a 2023 model?
Is the view to get a GT car (even used) customer must have good buying history? New GT cars yes, but even a used one (albeit like new)
ThisInJapanese said:
If a car comes with PCCB, can I replace them with steel discs and pads? (Assuming that the carbons need replacing of course)
Indeed you can .
I remember being at JZM and Russ there told me they have boxes of them stored for customers who replace with steels then put the PCCB's back on when selling the car.
Regarding the seat choice, I had an extended test drive in a car with buckets and found after about half an hour I couldn't get comfortable. I was gutted as I really wanted them but they failed my test of whether I'd be regretting the choice before I'd even got to the tunnel on my next Euro trip.
My other gripe is lack of climate control on many cars. Earlier this year before I bought my current car (GTS 4.0), 50% of the GT4s and 40% of the GTSs on Autotrader didn't have it, despite many having other cosmetic options like carbon illuminated door sill covers!
I think many original owners who spec'd these cars from new and possibly the sales people who took their order didn't understand that the main benefit of the "dual zone climate control" option is not the dual zone bit, it's the climate control bit. Without it, you only have manual aircon with no climate control.
Simon-Blue said:

Yes it was an option. It’s extended alcantara/race-tex & leather with stitch through the whole cabin (doors, complete dash, tunnel etc). Essential IMO as it gets rid of the nasty plastic dash & tunnel. It cost c£1200 with the silver stitch, c£1700 with yellow or red stitch.
Red or yellow 12 o’clock steering wheel marker was c£150.

Carbon trim through the cabin door/dash/tunnel panels was c£1000.
Very little became standard through the production run. From memory, MY23 got cruise control and rear parking sensors added as standard, but that’s it.

I stand corrected. I didn't spec it, so I was going from memory rather than my spec sheet. I knew it wasn't much though.
Wow seems the one I got the fella did a heavy spec (apart from PDLS LED's), it the only thing I miss. Then he only drive it for 1200 miles (not tracked either), seems I got a rare one
Ive had my 981 GT4 for a few months now. I couldnt stretch to a 718 so didnt look at one but for me I wanted the better engine note and rawness of the 981.
Mine has PCCB which are amazing but noisy. I also have the buckets which are a PIA to get in and out of but they look great and are comfortable. Im 5ft 10 and a little portly at 15st but I fit OK. I have buggered hips so I do get some hip pain.
It has no Chrono but does have extended leather and alcantara which is rather nice. The extra 12v of the smokers pack would be good but I use the USB port in the glove box for the phone.
Im sure I would have loved the 718 too but for me the 981 exceeds my expectations as a car I can enjoy at all speeds. Its the slowest car I have owned for a while (Stage 2 M2 and a F Tyre R 575 before) but the Jag was just boring and in many ways too fast to enjoy.
I had a fairly low spec in terms of options 718GT4 and moved to an extremely well spec'd 4RS.
The GT4 had everything I needed though.
You don't need PCCB's on the road, the dual climate is nice but it's a small cabin, Bose.... Hmmm, I don't think this is deal breaker but it's definitely a nice to have, buckets would be a must for me in a GT car, cage/clubsport not essential, LED/PDLS 100% yes.

A car I'm looking at is due one in January. I'll ring my local OPC and see what the bad news is.

I would budget for £1500 to £2K at an OPC, though you could use this as a negotiating tool in any prospective purchase.
As above. Plan for the worst and hope for the best but shop around. Dealers set their own prices so if you're fortunate enough to have a few dealers around you then play them off each other.
You could most probably double that price if you need brakes.

The brakes looked OK, the front discs and pads looked brand new. I will also ring my local Indie to see what they will price the service at.

Is the 3rd service on the GT4 platform a significant one?
Pretty sure it shouldn't be, or at least it wasn't on my 981 GT4. Major service should have been on the 2nd one, and next time it needs spark plugs should be on the 4th.
Having spark plugs changed every 4 years especially on low mileage cars is crazy. Life expectancy of modern plugs is what 60k. I went over 30k and 7 years on my old JCW and plugs were still ok although they also say change every 4 years. These service intervals are based on cars doing 20k every 2 years so 40k to change spark plugs every 4 years which seems right.
I think the most important thing to change and at least every year is the air filter and a lot of dealers across the cars I have owned don t both to replace if miles are low hence I now always do my self and clean the airbox out at the same time which is another thing they don t both to do even if they replace the filter!
So I wouldn’t be surprised to find on low miles cars they are charging for new plugs but not actually replacing!
Given the 981 is now 10yrs old I do wonder how many have ditched OPC servicing and opted for an Indi .
Very tempted myself but do worry that lots will now start to go wrong given the age of these cars & a warranty is only £720 per year so a no brainer.

I have 2 years warranty however will likely go indie after the 2 years as opc servicing costs are getting silly. You effectively pay well over double compared to an indie so need to add this to the cost of any warranty. In addition the terms have changed so when I renew a lot of what is covered won't be next time due to corrosion etc e.g. sports exhaust.
If you also factor in age related items such as suspension which the warranty does not cover then it becomes even more of a no brainer....suspension arms 1k vs 120 quid each!

I kept to OPC servicing and full warranty until I sold my 981 GT4 last year. About 2 months before I sold, the air con stopped working on the driver's side. Turned out to be a faulty air diverter valve, buried deep in the bowels of the dashboard. I'm guessing it would have been expensive in labour, possibly in parts too. I was glad to have invested in the warranty and keeping the service record with Porsche. It was all sorted without issue. I think it's a no brainer too.

Servicing is every 2 years/20K miles they alternate between minor and major, so this next service should be a minor. Not sure on the current costs you would need to ring around as dealers have their own pricing.
I had a major on my 718GT4 last year and it was around £1800 with PCGB discount and that was ringing around.
Is there much room for negotiation with an OPC for an AUC? I'm looking at 718 GT4 clubsports, at OPCs, mainly for the two years warranty.
How have people got on with their negotiations? Reduced sticker price, third year warranty, free service(s), raided the parts dept for some Manthey parts?

No idea, a year or two ago you would little if no chance, but times have changed at Porsche so you may be in luck, plus you're into the quiet time of year.
It's nearly YE so if you're going to make a cheeky offer do it now.
They may knock something off, throw in a PEC day I doubt there's much more wiggle room but who knows. If you're taking finance I'd certainly look to move that to someone else ASAP rather than stay with VW finance rates.

Fingers crossed, I will have an exciting (for me!) update over the weekend...
Nope.
After driving a GT4 a couple of weeks ago, I decided that I didn't like it more than the Alpine under normal road conditions. So I turned my attention to a Spyder. Spent a couple of week researching them, and found a couple to drive. One with 18 way seats the other with buckets and PDK.
Didn't like the 18 ways. They sat too high.
Didn't like PDK, but liked the buckets.
This left me with one of my 3 on my shortlist. Folding (and heated buckets, manual and a good spec). However, it was tired, very tired. Huge amount of scoring around the inside of the front wheels, one of the worst PPF wraps I've seen on a car and faded carpets. Plus the folding buckets sit higher than the regular buckets.
I think the main learning here is that OPC cars are very hit and miss, they really don't do anything with them to get them in to a decent condition, they are just turned around to make a decent buck.
I've got one car left, which I'm now confident will tick all the boxes, but that's for next week.

No need for used ones, my GT4 is my first Porsche. I think that because they weren't limited, you could actually have bought one new without buying history towards the end. Not so for the RS, of course!

As others have said, it's not the dual zone that matters, it's the fact that without it you only have manual air con so you'll constantly be adjusting temperature and blower speed. The climate control actually has options in the PCM for whether you want it to be subtle or a stronger effect, on top of being set-and-forget. It should be a no-brainer option.

The photo doesn't quite show it, but they are grey, which matches the stitching and the seatbelt. It works really well against the green.
Looks like we are going to have a few dry days, weather wise, over Christmas. Enjoy popping out to buy a newspaper 100 miles away. A stunning car, it needs driven.

Without wishing to be 'that guy', unless you have the 'Exclusive' stitching option, then the stitching on your car is "silver"...
Same with side decals, they look grey, but they are called "silver", albeit yours are aftermarket (as Porsche didn't offer side script on 718 Spyder/GT4) so could be called Grey. Same same though...
Either way, IMO your car looks utterly fantastic!

It may well be crayon, as that was colour option for the expensive ‘exclusive’ stitching option, especially as your car is also expensive PTS. But, Crayon stitch is more beige than grey…
My OCD now needs to know, what does your spec sheet say?

The easiest way to do it, is to add your car to your My Porsche app. If you don’t have the My Porsche app, download it, then go to your garage, press add vehicle, then enter the VN number. It will then suck all the information from Porsche, and you’ll be able to see exactly what options are on your car.

I think I know what everything else is. Buckets, manual and ideally climate and LEDs is all I cared about.
Congratulations on the new car, OP!
I need a sense check that a 718 GT4 Clubsport would be a 'sensible' choice for my needs. I've aspired to own a GT product since the 996 GT3 was released and anything I buy would ultimately be a stepping stone to a GT4/3 so why not just bite the bullet and jump in to a GT4 now. I want something depreciation resistant. Practically isn't that high on the list as we have a practical car for the family duties but I want some luxuries like doors and roof. I'd like to get back into trackdays. I'm booked on to a 'ring trackday (DN) in May. It'll also be used occasionally during the week. My wife's car is full of modern tech like lane assist which annoys me. But I do want some more modern tech like CarPlay for long journeys.
Running costs - the one discussed above are as expected and I'm used to such as I've owned and tracked M cars and AMGs.
An OPC car with two years' warranty is appealing.
I'll caveat this with I've never test driven one. How accommodating are OPCs with what I presume are mileage sensitive cars? I'd be interested to see what the gearing is like in both gearboxes.
Speaking of gearboxes, manual or PDK doesn't bother me but my wife has an auto only licence, however, the chances of her driving it are limited to emergencies only. I've heard stories of clutch life being limited and with the intended track use, is this likely to increase running costs over a PDK? I'm swaying towards PDKs but they're newer and a struggle within the budget. From what I've seen, the gearbox doesn't seem to
I'm not in a rush and looking to buy once the weather improves as the slight premium could easily be negated by not having any running costs while it's in the garage awaiting better weather.
Colours are limited but ones to avoid? I'd rather something more subtle and not too flashy. The black clubsport with silver wheels in Bournemouth OPC is nice but I recall owning a black car years ago and it was a challenge to clean and keep looking nice.
Brakes - the replacement costs of PCCBs are a concern but their longevity and track performance an advantage. Would an OPC measure brake wear prior to a sale on request?
I plan on owning long term so happy to buy the spec I want rather than focusing too much on residuals but something to keep in mind.

I went through the same decision process this time last year. Mine is strictly a fun car for road use as I have a Caterham 7 for track days. I wanted a GT4 but an extended test drive in a car with the 918 buckets made me realise I'd seriously regret it well before I'd even got to the tunnel on our next Euro trip. Others have no problems with the buckets so strongly recommend an extended test drive to find out.
Another practical consideration is ground clearance. I ended up buying a GTS 4.0 but still had clearance problems with car parks at several hotels on our first Euro trip in it. My friend who owns my old 987S Cayman ripped the (standard fitment) front lip completely off the car at one of the hotel car parks we used. The rear splitters also get a serious battering on the GT4 (apparently even more so on the 4RS with front lift). Euro trips are a significant part of our use and avoiding multi-storey hotel car parks would be a challenge.
My other gripe is that many GT4s (and also GTS) don't have climate control. I lost count of the number of otherwise well specced cars with options like illuminated carbon door sill covers that don't have it. Even a clubsport spec car is towards the comfort end of the automotive spectrum compared with track focused cars like a Caterham so to not have something as basic as climate control these days in a car like this is a non-starter for me. Ditto PDLS headlights (an age-related must-have in my case).

Thanks, I'm still struggling to believe that it's mine to be honest!
The things I learnt during the process.
- OPCs are mostly happy to allow you to drive the car and answer questions, but the quality was varied between the different dealers I looked at. One in particular being shocking...
- I didn't like PDK at all, I found it to be quite unengaging and felt that the 'box in my Alpine A110 was a better box when you consider how it suited the car. The manual in the Spyder is lovely, one of the best I've ever used.
- Seats were the big thing for me. I found the 18 way comfort seats, and the carbon folding seats were too high. I loved how low the carbon buckets sit, but it's a very personal thing, so I would suggest you drive both if possible.
- Given my experience OPCs are willing to do deals on cars, there are tools on AutoTrader that will tell you how long they have had the car, and the price changes the car has been through.
- Colours are personal, mine is a Paint to Sample (An £8k option!!), but I like it, so I'm happy with it.
- I didn't like the idea of PCCBs as the cost of replacement was horrible, and there are some people who say they can wear out, so I didn't want that risk.

The front spoiler on the Spyder is a little shorter than the GT4, so it does help a bit, but you still have to be aware that it's low.
The spec of some of the cars is a thing of confusion I agree. I'm sure some people ordered a car and didn't realise that dual-sided climate was an option. I guess many cars were specced in Covid, so they didn't have a lot of face to face time with the dealer.

Look at the front spoiler as being a disposable item. They’re not that expensive and easy to replace. It’s a DIY job.

If you don't spec dual zone climate control, you don't get any climate control - just manual adjustment of cabin temperature and fan settings. I'm still subsribed to the Porsche GB email notifications for GT4 and GTS 4.0 cars coming into their network. Tonight's email lists a new GTS 4.0 with all the usual comfort extras like Bose and 18 way seats, plus seat backrests in leather, leather covered steering column casing, leather door sill covers, carbon illuminated door sills. But no climate!

I have one, only had 2 months but ultra low miles and has all that you would like. I am awaiting a Turbo, so this was a stop gap from my OPC. It doesn't have 18 way but the bucket seats (which are amazing). has BOSE, Dual Climate, red sticthing and loads more.
It's fully blacked out and has 2400 miles at the moment (Sept 23 car and has OPC warranty up until Sept 2028). If a 992.1 Turbo S comes on locally that may tempt me out, but 992.2 Turbo is what I want and I am top of the list. I will list privately when time comes as it's too good for a dealer.
Just picked up a lovely low mileage GT4 yesterday. Generally really happy with it - one quick question. When at high revs moving from second to third gear there's a bit of rev hang like the clutch is slipping but the car only has 13,000mls on it. Is this something that others have experienced?

I think even with the rev-matching/auto-blip button off the car still does it to an extent to smooth out gearchanges
these GT4's in a good spec (clubsport, etc) are very rare as people tend to keep them, I have heard now from a few local GT4 owners (prior to luckily getting mine) that there are very few better driving cars out there like a well specced GT4 (inc 911 family) and I actually tend to agree, mine is totally brilliant.
Good luck in the hunt..... you might be lucky.
I am awaiting a 911 turbo allocation - but who knows when these are gonna launch/land.

Clubsport, climate control, parking sensors and rear camera and a subtle colour are the main ones. Wheel colour can be easily changed. Brakes I'm not too fussed, it'll be tracked so if it came with PCCBs, they might get swapped out for steels.
There's an AUC leggy black clubsport with gold wheels but without dual zone climate that's been at High Wycombe OPC since Sept but seems overpriced and underspec'd.
ChatGPT fixed the wheels but not the lack of dual zone climate...
Bodes well that two more cars hit the Porsche website today. A sensibly priced and great spec Python Green and an expensive Shark Blue. Both colours though aren't high on my list of colours I want.

As has been said before, the problem is that without it you only have basic manual air conditioning - no temperature control besides "hotter" or "colder". It's not the fact that it's dual zone that's important, it's the fact that without it you don't have climate control at all.
FWIW my previous car was a GT86 - they launched in 2012 at £25k and dual zone climate was standard. Porsche not including it on a car costing three times as much, 8 years later, is pretty piss poor. It was a must-have when I bought my GT4.

I was astonished when I was looking last year at the number of cars with more expensive decorative options like carbon illuminated door sill covers but no climate!
50% of GT4s and 40% of GTS 4.0 Caymans on Autotrader last February lacked climate. It must surely be mostly due to lack of understanding by buyers - and OPC sales staff - rather than a conscious choice?

This is my assumption too. Poor assumptions by buyers and not the detailed knowledge of OPC sales. The only car I've owned without climate control was an Exige which I can forgive because, well, it's an Exige.

I simply found a happy medium position on the temp dial and let the car reach that temp.
What I did miss from my wish list was folding mirrors, every time I parked in my garage.

This is my assumption too. Poor assumptions by buyers and not the detailed knowledge of OPC sales. The only car I've owned without climate control was an Exige which I can forgive because, well, it's an Exige.
Remember a lot of the 21/22 plate GT4's suffered the post Covid parts shortage. That's one of the reasons you see a lot with the base headlights as well. My old GT4 (I was 2nd owner) had climate on the original spec sheet but the car didn't actually have it. I did get the PDSL+ and other bits I wanted so made do with manually upping the fan every now and again!
Freakuk said:
As I have said previously I didn't get hung up on climate, nice to have but realistically it was never ever an issue.
This, 100%. I specced from new and didn’t bother with it, and I had no issues without it. As a daily, yes, but very few buy a GT4 as a daily.
Mark83 said:
Edited by Mark83 on Monday 26th January 16:44
My car doesn’t have climate. It’s just weird on a car that expensive. My GR86 which was £30k had dual zone climate control. To be honest it doesn’t bother me that much. I find I’m always trying to get up or cool down the car in any case and never really settle on a temperature, so it’s fine as it is. It does have everything else you wanted though CS, Bose, full leather, PDLS, reversing camera and PCCBs. But it’s really important that you get what you want. Mine will go on track but I’ll probably just get the brakes sorted by the boys in Tring rather than swap for steelies.

Seems a fair price for a well speced car.
Went live yesterday and reserved/removed today, not surprised at that price. Great spec and price if you like Python Green. It made the similar spec car at Silverstone OPC look very overpriced. Shame it's in Belfast so a flight there followed by an eight hour ferry and four hour drive home.

You could always get it delivered to the UK, cost roughly £500 give or take. Or get the overnight ferry to Birkenhead and get to know your new car on the drive home. We use the ferry service three or four times a year and it’s very efficient. Porsche Belfast are right beside the ferry terminal.

Not sure on the colour combo - that's why it's priced that way. Maybe ok in a sunny place.

This one has just gone up by £1k today.
I wouldn’t be a fan of the colour combination, I think GT cars suit bolder colours, but it will be someone else’s perfect car.
I really liked the green car that sold yesterday.

Pricing is all over the place. Some have £1000 finance contribution. Some have different APR on the same finance product.
The black clubsport I posted earlier has sat there for over four months and still over-priced IMO. The perfect spec and well priced car I enquired about sold in four days.
Viewing a car tomorrow that ticks all the boxes at an independent Porsche retailer.
I thought to add a Porsche warranty, it was an 111 point check at OPC, then purchase the warranty. The vendor said they're happy to facilitate any inspection but they said that Porsche need to service it before they'll warranty it.
Has anyone had the experience of adding a Porsche warranty to a car not purchased through an OPC?

I need to have owned the car for 90 days then they'll service it to bring everything up to date. The 111 point inspection is extra but half price at £207.

If the last service was at a OPC then you only need the 111 point check.
I assume it’s been out of network serviced? Also as a warning/note you need to get anything advised by the OPC at service sorted before they’ll add warranty. So check the tyres, pads and discs prior to going for service as these are the big ticket items that can bite.

I bought my car from an indi that had only ever been serviced by Porsche. The car came with the indi warranty but tbh the indi warranty is nowhere near as comprehensive as a Porsche one.
Once the indi warranty expired I paid £360 for the 111 inspection and had the car serviced at the same time then added the Porsche warranty.
Didn't bother with the Porsche assist as we have family cover.
My warranty renewal comes up in March and plan to renew for 2/3 years and keep the car.
Comes in at around £720 per year.
No brainer

Sure -

It has a range 3 over-rev so not major but still over 8600rpm and a likely headache if Porsche won't warranty it and when selling on.
Would a 718 GT4 Clubsport with full spec (918 buckets, roll cage etc plus PDLS+, PCCB s, dual zone climate, BOSE, reverse camera, extended leather and PPF front end) BUT 6 previous owners (me being 7th) and previous owner won on raffle site 2 years ago put you off?
It s got full OPC history and warranty remaining, so cheap to extend. Early 2020 car with 20k miles, £67.5k.

I guess it depends how long you are going to keep it but that is a fantastic price and spec and ticks all the boxes. I had an M2 that was a raffle car (I didnt know this until I googled the reg once I had bought it) and it was fine with no issues.

Number of owners has never bothered me.
I'm always more concerned how those owners have maintained the car.
I once had an F355 with 9 previous owners but the maintenance was spot on.
I sold it no problem to the 11th owner .

Yeah that’s fair. How old was the F355 when you bought and sold though? This GT4 is only 6 years old and current owner has had it for just over 2 years, so it changed hands 5 times in less than 4 years. All within OPC network though, which is something, I guess.
It’s just the fact it’s also been to a raffle company which puts off a bit although probably irrational… Seems opinions are mixed (as usual)!
The sale of my 2010 GT3 was completed today.
I would have owned it 7 years this May so a good chunk of its total of 16 years.
It had 9 owners when I bought it 2019 and I added 1/3 of the mileage, always serviced on time a straight original paint car but it struggled to sell, JZM said they had lots of enquiries but when they said it had 10 owners people were put off.
I dropped it down to JZM mid July last year.
I was a buy on condition not owners guy but I will factor this into decision making more in the future.
I think I was the 7th owner of my GT4 I foolishly didn’t realise when I purchased it. I sold it no problem and I know it got sold on again.
I think these types of cars do have lots of owners.

For context a one owner from new, late 70 plate, fully loaded Gentian Blue Clubsport but with 28k miles was advertised by an OPC, so serviced up to date, clean bill of health and two years warranty remaining, for £2000 more, less than a month ago.

Yeah I saw that and was about to put a deposit down as it was literally my ideal spec but the salesman sent me a walk around video up close and it looked like it had lived a hard life. Every single panel was marred/swirled or scratched, every single wheel had substantial curbing and some hefty stone chips on the front bumper and bonnet. It had never had any PPF to save it.
I know the OPC would rectify most of this but it just made me question the way it had been looked after (or not it seemed). A full front end respray is both appealing and off putting, come resale. I do kind of regret not just going with it though.

It wasn't serviced as per Porsche's schedule so that put me off too, but again, with hindsight, I shouldn't have hesitated.

Oh really? I didn’t even get to know that. I just presumed it would’ve been all good given they were selling it. It seems like we’re in competition for a clean, well specced car then haha.
How long have you been looking out of interest? I have had my eye on the market since November but only in a strong position to buy for a month (since selling my previous car privately).

That's a fair point as the car was 15 years old when I bought it.
Guessing maintenance on a 355 is the first thing you look for when buying than the number of owners.

I'm finding cars are not serviced as per the service schedule and over sailing on time rather than mileage. That one over sailed on both but Porsche would still retail and warranty it. The black 2019 one I linked was serviced once at two years old as per the schedule, then not serviced again in five years. I spoke to Porsche who advised that so long as the servicing was brought up to date by them and passed the 111 point check, they'd still warranty it.
I'm in a similar situation. I can move immediately as I don't have a car and have been actively looking since Christmas.

I’m finding similar too. It’s been surprising how many cars have missed services or are just very late, or gone outside of OPC network and it’s relatively expensive to bring them back in due to 111 check, service, N rated tyres and that’s before any potential issues are addressed. Oh and warranty is more expensive as it lapsed… Nightmare to be honest. I knew it wouldn’t be easy finding the perfect car but wow, I think I’ll be waiting a long while.

Mine will move once we get the nod on a 992.2 Turbo. Currently has 2500 miles and is Sept 2023, full OPC Warranty to Sept 2028, it won't do many more miles really as its my runabout, Clubsport pack, PDK, Dual Climate, carbon interior, red stitching everywhere and all blacked out. It has been fully ceramic coated with a 5 year warranty and I keep it in mint condition.
I bought as a stop gap to get me back into a 992.

Oh very nice, 992.2 Turbo sounds lovely.
I imagine with yours being a late 2023 car with low miles it will be out of my budget (£75k-ish)! I do have a preference for manual too.
Thanks for putting it out there though. Likewise, if any other 718 GT4 owners are looking to sell imminently, let me know as I’m looking to buy asap.
Can anyone give a view on the brakes on
this
car, specifically the 'green' pads being used on PCCB?
It suggests heavy track use and the fact it has been up for sale for several months may tell a story. Whilst they've been reducing the price since Nov from £84k it's still a bit toppy. Pity as it's got some good options.
Pricewise the car at
Dove House
seems a bargain for a low miles Clubsport with PCCB and plenty of other options for £69,900. Ordinarily I'd be in like Flint for it, but I don't like black and ideally need to move my old air cooled on before I drop on another GT4. It's missed a service albeit they've just done it.

The gentian blue doesn't have FPSH as last service was at an indy in case you're interested in adding warranty. You can, but it'll cost you in bringing the servicing up to date at Porsche and 111 point check. They have no over-rev report.
The black one was serviced once at Porsche in 2021 and not been serviced since. The vendor said they'd service it prior to sale. It's on SOR and they offered to take it to Porsche for me to get it serviced up to date and warranty added until they shared the over-rev report which showed an over-rev. I have the report if you want it. There some minor scruffs in the PPF which I have photos of too.

Thanks for that, very informative. I suspected the blue one might have issues to review but the green pads said to me it had been used as a track car (no bad thing given they're designed for it) but over-revs check and PCCB wear would be top of my list.
The black car seems cheap to me and I think they've weighted in the missed service (and the over-revs) to price it. I've no intention of putting one of these cars into warranty or letting an OPC service it when I buy one as I've a very good Indy who I trust and if they're like my 981 GT4 I bought at 3yrs old and had for near 5yrs it was faultless. Whether that reduces appeal when and if I decided to sell it (planning on it to be a very long term keeper) doesn't bother me.

I went to view this and also checked through the paperwork which made me walk away, although that is because I m looking for a car I can easily stick an OPC warranty on. As another poster mentioned, its last service was at an independent. It has also had new rear pads (as you noticed), suggesting it s had a hard life. I also noticed the front tyres arent N rated (rears are). Every single tyre had seen heavy track usage, melted rubber everywhere and some scrapes to the front/rear diffusers which is to be expected.
It s also got an aftermarket exhaust of some description. They said it doesn t but the tips are completely different and purple/blue tinged (titanium maybe). It s also 2 previous owners, not 1 as they advertise. I noticed a Ninemeister sticker on the rear window but no invoices in the file so could be anything from an alignment to engine remap as they are renowned for that.
The paintwork is in surprisingly great condition with full track pack PPF, interior also great. It s just the lack of OPC history and amount of prep it would have to go through the get an OPC warranty which put me off. I do think it is slightly overpriced too, they seemed open to a deal for £77,XXX.
Just put mine up in the classifieds, Manual Shark Clubsport with the right spec.
I have a strong trade offer on the car but tbh its too good to go that route!
Any Qs feel free to PM - its on at POA as there are options regarding the warranty renewal and upcoming service.

I remember agonising over a 981 Spyder. On the Monday morning when I called to do the deal the car had been sold. The pot is getting smaller and the list of excuses is growing.
Thankfully we have two GT4s and an RS needing some fettling although I do still have a deposit on the Cayman EV should it ever happen.

Couldn't believe how fast the right spec car sells, either off market or the day it's advertised. I had registered my interest with RPM Technik and they ended up having the 'right' car for me. Super smooth transaction.

Congrats mate, lovely spec that.
I forgot to update here myself. I also bought from RPM Technik and collected early April. I put my deposit down without any photos just going off spec alone just to make sure I was the first!
Identical spec other than mine is Black and manual - I think I’ve seen you post on one of the Facebook groups - Happy motoring!
