I’d be more cautious on the main release cable though, as that gets used regularly.

And for the emergency release this should be enough since it is rarely used (hopefully).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello, When I fixed the issue with my 996 frunk micro switch, it turned out that the rubber grommets that holds the cables (both the normal one and emergency) are perished. The one from the emergency release is totally gone and the one from main cable is on his last legs. So what I did for the emergency is to put an expansion rivet there instead of the rubber. See attached photo. And the solution actually looks OEM+ especially if I would make the cut a bit more neat. And for the emergency release this should be enough since it is rarely used (hopefully). However, I think soon I would also need to replace the main cable / grommet. The price is reasonable, but for early cars this fix is quite a pain to do. If I would do a similar solution as for the emergency one, would you think this is a good fix. Especially since for the emergency one the cable really sits well in there and the rivet is snug in it's place.

POST 2Original post

For the emergency release, that looks a reasonable workaround if the cable is held securely and not chafing. I’d be more cautious on the main release cable though, as that gets used regularly. The grommet supports the cable and stops it rubbing on the bracket. If you use the same rivet idea, I’d add some rubber sleeve/protection around the cable and make sure it still moves freely. Neat fix, but cable wear would be my only concern.

You are obviously new to the 911. That front storage area is called a TRUNK. I’ve been driving Porsches for 52 years.

You may call it that in the US of A but here in the UK Porsche owners call that the FRUNK (Front Trunk) or, by those that want to retain some Britishness about it , the FROOT (Front Boot).

POST 5Original post

Quotes source post: 2817904

You’re still obviously a newbie to Porsches. The trunk has always been in the FRONT.

Super. Thanks a lot for your contribution. And proud of you that you are already a Porsche driver for 52 years. I will have potato for dinner tonight, but some people call it potato.

POST 7Original post

That's strange, 39 years ago the trunk of my 924 was in the BACK - the same as modern day Macans, Cayennes and Taycans. It's also strange that a Netherlander has a better grasp of the English language than an American.

POST 8Original post

Quotes source post: 2818161

The trunk in the 911 has always been in the front. Some Porsches have front trunks, and also back trunks. For example, the 914 has both a front trunk and a back trunk…. Would we call those “frunks” and “baunks.” Dan

Some Britishness??? I'd say all Britishness because we never refer to a boot as a trunk so it has to be FROOT
