POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks to all who have helped me! I am an official 996 owner. Here is my car's specs! I love the fact that it has the X51, sport exhaust, heated seats AND rear wiper (yes, I like the rear wiper). I did the PPI and the engine was 1% 2% 2% 2% 2% 1.5% during the leakdown test. 2004 C4S AH Black Full Leather Y1 Seal Grey Metallic M6A Black Mats - Porsche lettering 680 Bose Digital Sound 692 Remote CD changer (6-disc) 425 Rear wiper P74 Xenon Headlamp Package with dynamic leveling and washers X51 Carrera Power Kit 345 HP Includes modified cylinder heads, camshafts, exhaust manifolds, control unit, and aluminum intake manifold. First I thought they were the 6 piston yellow calipers for the "ceramic brakes" set. But they are not. They are simply the same as the 4 piston red calipers.

POST 2Original post

let me be the first to say....very nice! congrats! 1. Debadged.... yeah, people do that. 2. yellow calipers.... yeah, people do that.

POST 3Original post

Looks great!! [ edit - forgot to read the top of the post ]

POST 4Original post

Congrats! let me be the first to say - 1: post more pics..... yea people do that damn teaser pic LOL

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 7024247

No, it's a C4S. I guess it would have helped if I posted that. 446 is just the "painted wheel center caps". I don't know why they say "Targa" in the description.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm not so sold on the "short shifter". It makes it feel awkward. My Boxster S' is much nicer... heck, my old Miata's was even nicer than the Boxster's - probably the best shifter of all cars I've driven. But I must say, the carbon fiber steering wheel is very nice. It actually makes you want to keep both hands on the wheel. Seriously, and no offense that this sounds perverted, it makes you want to stroke the damn thing. The leather in this car is also "softer" than my Boxster's. I guess that's the "supple" part of "supple leather". When I think of leather, this is what I think of and like. Otherwise, the leather in most cars now seem so plasticky that I can't tell the difference between them and vinyl ("pleather"). However, I assume this "suppleness" will come with a hefty price of me conditioning it even more often than normal....Hmmm... I better stock up on the Griot's leather stuff.

POST 11Original post

Congratulations! Glad you found the one you wanted!

POST 12Original post

In my book, this is a great find, you have all the good options + x51. Have you signed up for a DE event? Trust me, if you haven't you should, this car will put a larger smile on your face.

POST 15Original post

Love the car and color. Equipment is great, especially X51. How many miles on the car?

POST 16Original post

Looks great, I also just picked up my second C2 cab, I was torn between the C4S and the Cabriolet. Have fun, don't push-it for a few month. Chris

POST 17Original post

I have the same shifter , feels much like the B&M. The S2000 what the best shifter ever. Check and See if you have the Bose demo CD, this is a great system. Chris

POST 18Original post

Sweet car, nice options. Congrats! We DO need more pics though!

POST 19Original post

X-51! sweet! congrats. Pics or else Tim will keep bitchin!

POST 20Original post

I ordered my Carrera without the rear model designation. And ordered the rear model designation painted to match the car. This is done quite routinely. My brake calipers came in yellow as well, but I didn't request it.

POST 21Original post

That is a sweet looking 911, and as mentioned the X51 option is an added bonus that is huge $ when you're buying the Porsche new. Nice going!

POST 23Original post

Damn, that thing probably cost what a base-optioned turbo cost with all those options new!

POST 24 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 7025611

Sticker was $110,835. The short shifter was added later on. How much is that? $1000 installed?

POST 26Original post

Quotes source post: 7024927

Agreed - my S2000 had the best shifter... like a rifle. The OEM / B&M does loosen up a bit after a few thousand miles...

POST 27 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 7025955

I voted the S2000 shifter as 2nd to the Miata's. The S2000 was a better car, but I got tired of winding it out to get any power. Although I loved the Miata I had, it was just too damn girly. But it served it's purpose at the time. I wish they made stickers that said "It's my wife's" or something like that....

POST 28Original post

Quotes source post: 7025976

Or a sticker that says "My NEXT car will be a Porsche C4s"!

POST 30 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 7027009

Ok, fine... I hate to post pics when I haven't even detailed it yet, but here goes... These were shot from the dealer. By the way, does anyone know if the rear tints will peel off cleanly? I'm worried that it might damage the rear defroster lines. I'm not really the tinted window type of guy... I'm a family man, after all... And yes, I am buying the "Carrera 4S" badge. I see them at Pelican. But this is with the "S" in silver or whatever that color is. I have seen some C4S's with a red "S". Is this an "option"?

POST 31Original post

Quotes source post: 7027162

Personally, I think the red "S" is a bit on the Ricer side. Big deal. It's just an S. (I would just leave it stock. You don't need to advertise any more for Porsche than it already does--and it also leaves you a place to collect and trap junk when you're waxing the deck lid). The tint adheres with a mastic that can be broken down with a variety of things. Start with the easy going stuff, and work your way up. First off, cover the rear leather shelf well with a turkish bath towel or something equivalent, and then start to get that thing wet from the edges. It may reactivate it, but is dependent upon how long it's been in there. I would use those citrus products to try and break it down--and it won't do much collateral damage. Good luck getting that junk out. Be patient, and avoid the defroster wires by not resorting to a mechanical solution! The car looks great as it is. Don't clutter up that back end!

POST 32Original post

Very nice, congrats!! But *I* want yellow calipers!! I'll trade you? LOL!!

POST 34Original post

Thats a great car. C4S with X-51 - not too common. Awesome - enjoy..

POST 35Original post

Congrats! +1 on adding the rear badge. I know people order them that way but I always think the car was in an accident...

POST 36 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

WOW.... a couple of days into ownership and I think I already have more miles on it than Phil's car! hhehehehe sorry, I couldn't resist... On another note, can someone take a pic of their spare tire/tool kit/jack/air pump? I.e. - does it look like this? Or is there supposed to be some form of styrofoam cover within the wheel like the owner's manual shows?

POST 37Original post

Nope, my C4S looked like that and my Turbo looks like that, however, it appears that you are missing the air pump. I forget the exact price, but I bought a new one from Suncoast for less than $150. ///Michael

POST 38 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I got my package "Carrera 4S" package from Pelican Parts today. It looks like the #4 is too small and won't fit perfectly into the "S". Can someone take a closeup pic of their "4S"?

POST 39Original post

Sorry, no close up but can you just try to fit it? Did you order the '4S', or the entire 'Carrera 4S' badge? What is the p/n?

POST 40 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 7062969

You can't just "fit it" since the 4 looks un-naturally smaller compared to the "S". If you look at the "S", there's a cutout where the top of the 4 fits snugly into it. Can you order the entire "Carrera 4S"? I didn't think so. I ordered it in pieces from Pelican Parts per their website: "Carrera" 996-559-237-10-4PU-M100 "4" 996-559-241-02-4PU-M100 "S" 996-559-243-00-D04-M100

POST 41Original post

I know how they fit together. If you can't fit the pieces together, then send them back.

POST 42Original post

Quotes source post: 7038843

Mine looks the same but you are missing air pump. Mine was too - I bought this: http://www.aircompressorsdirect.com/...R60/p3766.html

POST 43 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source posts: 7063110, 7063428

I went to the dealer and they found that there are 2 "4"s. One is for "upper" and the other is for "lower". We have no clue what the meant. I ordered the other one with the different part number from what I previously provided. Interestingly, it was CHEAPER at the dealer than Pelican... I'll report tomorrow if the part is correct. Mine actually had the pump. I just didn't have it in the pic since I was cleaning it. However, this pump you sent me the link to is a darn good buy for $23!!

POST 44 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 7066133

So I go to the dealer and got the "4" part. Although it carries a different part number, when set next to the one I already have, it looks like the same exact part! So what gives? Can anyone please post a high-res shot of the "C4S" badging so that I can show it to the dealer? Thanks!

POST 45Original post

All it is missing is the Aero Kit. Very, very nice. Why are the rear bumpers black? I thought those were color coded to the car? What dealer is that? Looks like a 964 in the back ground.

POST 46Original post

It is very inexpensive to add the Carrera 4S Model designation back on if you would like to. I would guess less than $50

POST 47 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 7076100

I'm trying to... read posts #38 onwards... The number "4" doesn't seem to be fitting correctly with the "S". I'm trying to get someone to take a hi-res pic of their "4S" so that I can show it to the dealer who is also having a difficult time locating the right "4".

POST 48Original post

+1 e5 on drivers ed event. I have owned 8 previous P-cars, and I did not appreciate this one (mine is 2002 C4S) until I drove it 700 mi at Watkins Glen. Mods I would suggest are: GT3 delete (removes the plastic console that rubs on your right leg). Short Shifter best of luck!! enjoy the car. Drive the car. JB

I do have the short shifter...but I'm kinda not liking it... feels too "gated". People say it will loosen up over time. Been doing driving schools for 15+ years, so it will eventually make it to the Glen. THANKS for posting the pics! The 4 that came from Pelican is much smaller than the 4 you show!

NP. Maybe pull the console and make sure the cables are set correctly.
