Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.

Suggestion

I spent maybe 20k over 5 years of ownership (much was personal wishes rather than necessities and all professional hourly rates) but the car could have clearly been kept in perfect running order for far far less (in the Alex world).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I replaced one of the rads yesterday. Took a few snaps to help myself whilst doing the job. I always find this comes in really handy, especially for other people needing to do it, so here they are:

POST 2Original post

How are your rads holding up Alex? Did you get the coolparts ones off ebay? One of mine has sprung a leak  Might just swap both while its apart.

POST 3Original post

Was there a need for reversing up the ramps or were you doing something on the rear

POST 4Original post

Blimey - 2014 and no-one responded; they were all busy paying their OPC bills  Fair play Alex. I hadn't realised you'd been at the 'self maintenance - this 996 will not financially cripple me' for so long. Fair play indeed

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My Rad (only changed one) is holding up fine. There was a reason I lifted the back end up too. Was draining all the water out at the front so wanted the front end lower, then when I did the rad, raised it up on axle stands, then once complete, did a few flushes to give it a reyt good clear out, with the front end lower again to drain the system. Also, easier to burp it at the end of the job with the rear end higher.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

As if it's taken 18 months for someone to comment! Must have been a rubbish thread :what:

POST 8Original post

Did you just pull the whole assembly off after losening the jubilee clips?

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes. The whole assembly just bolts on to the shell with 3 bolts I think. Once off the radiator is easily dimantled from the frame. Wouldn't like to try and remove the rad in situ - if at all possible.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just replaced this Radiator today as it sprung a leak. Lasted 10 years and 2 months / 80k miles. Passenger side is still original as far as I know and now on 172k miles. Noticed I paid £78 for the radiator 10 years ago. This time - £64.

POST 11Original post

What a thread ..10yrs and a full report with financial statement at the end ...incredible

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Not just that, I'm a firm believer of 'if it ain't broken don't fix it'. I was asked at the time why I didn't change both. If I had of done, then there's a good chance I'd have had to change both again this time. So total cost would've gone from £142 to £284, involved more work and also created a throw away situation, one of modern society's biggest flaws.

Alex is imo the ultimate "you can do it on a budget but can you be bothered/you have to make the effort" in this forum, which I view to be extremely important because potential 911 owners need to know it doesn't have to be a "bank breaking" experience. Me .. I spent maybe 20k over 5 years of ownership (much was personal wishes rather than necessities and all professional hourly rates) but the car could have clearly been kept in perfect running order for far far less (in the Alex world).

POST 14Original post

How are the radiator carriers holding up in the 10year interval? Great to see the history Alex - thank you.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Bit rusty, but a quick wire brush and a dose of black Smoothrite and they'll be ok for another 10.
