Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I’m looking for some recommendations for good products to clean the inside of the arches on my car. I know Bilt Hamber has been mentioned but I’m pretty sure 2 products from them have been mentioned in the past with 1 being specifically recommended I just can’t which one it is TIA

POST 2Original post

Soapy water and a stiff brush brought mine up like new.

POST 3Original post

Yeah just clean them with hot soapy water and a brush that allows the bristles to face down, any signs of rust I'd put some rust converter on and then some wax/lanogaurd/whatever That's a quick easy way to get them treated.

POST 4Original post

It depends on how much crud you've got in there. As suggested hot soapy water may well do the trick. My go to for an all purpose cleaner is Bilt Hamber Surfex which can be diluted to different ratios depending on the application. 1:10 would be perfect for arches. Once they're looking spangly you could give it all a good spray with Bilt Hamber Dynax UC for some protection. And make sure you remove all plastic liners before cleaning as they can trap the crud

Thanks for the recommendation

POST 6Original post

Any APC will be fine for the arches. If you have the arches lined with any protection like cavity wax etc, then use it at the minimum dilution rate. Koch Chemie Green Star, BH Sufex or BH Touchless would be my recommendations. I use BH Touchless as my APC and pre-wash. Everyone has different goals when it comes to car cleaning. I want to keep the car clean and the paintwork swirl free.

POST 7Original post

+1 on removing the plastic liners. Anything less would be unhelpful overall other than cosmetically when looking through the wheel from outside. A lot of crud is trapped behind them, especially in the rear wheel arch area.

POST 8Original post

And then coat with Dynax UB - it is darker than UC, but more durable.

POST 9Original post

Lots of elbow grease and Built Hamber APC. Did mine when I first bought the car. Don't think they had ever been removed. Some before and after shots. Once cleaned, applied POR15 anti rust and then POR15 top coat. Then I injected Bilt Hamber Dynax S50 in to every cavity I could find and then applied Dynax UC over the top of the POR15 top coat.

That looks great. Have you used glue-on studs to replace the ones that hold the heat shields? Not much left of mine, just about managed to push on a couple of those spring-grip repair washers for now but it's not great. Had considered using M3 rivnuts but wasn't sure I wanted to drill the hole and risk the other side becoming a corrosion vulnerability. Did you just grind/chop the original one off and glue on the replacement, and with what adhesive, JB-Weld type stuff?

POST 11Original post

Yeh, the studs snapped off when I removed the old heat shields. I just grinded what was left flat and created a key and used a metal weld glue to secure them in place. I believe I used a Gorilla two pack metal glue as wasn't impressed with the JB weld stuff.
