I know it's going to be tricky to get a decent long test drive in a second hand car, but that's probably the only way you can be sure?

If the seat doesn't go back far enough then if it's like my 993 you'll be able to take the seats out & re-mount them using different holes on the sliders (or get a local engineering firm to drill new holes if need be).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm after some advice. I sat in my first couple of boxers yesterday, 2006 examples, 2.7 & S models. To be fair, I thought it would be more of a struggle getting in to it, certainly was when I owned a 944 many years ago. I managed to slide my 6'5" frame in with relative ease, head wasn't touching the roof, however the pedals do feel offset to the left. The two boots were a surprise, larger than I though they would be. It will primarily be a weekend car, although the prospect of longer trips would be nice. I know it won't have the comfort level of the daily (7 series), although I'm assuming less back destroying than the bike, which will be moving to track duties only. Any thoughts on ownership greatly received.

POST 2Original post

Hi there, I have one as my daily, am about 6 1". My wife also has one and she's close to 6.0" both cars are 2.7s and 986s. Great cars and really comfortable on a day to day basis, I couldn't recommend them highly enough, hence we bought two! I do all of my own work on both of the cars and that makes them very cheap to own. I have replaced the MAF on one, the water pump, all service work, brakes, poly v belts, oil air separator, etc etc. Cheap insurance on a multi car and swift cover is coming in mega cheap at the moment, I am 40 and got quoted £180! I do not believe that you could buy a better car for the money right now, oh and they do close to 30mpg no a daily.

POST 3Original post

I'm 6 foot 6 and was considering buying a new boxster back in 2004. I could fit in ok so Porsche lent me one for a day. I quickly realised it was too cramped for any length of time behind the wheel. I bought something else instead. I know it's going to be tricky to get a decent long test drive in a second hand car, but that's probably the only way you can be sure?

POST 4Original post

I'm 6'5 and fit in ok. Check out Brey Krause seat rail if you want more space. IMO and not particularly scientific but I've found sports seats don't give you quite as much space as regular seats.

POST 5Original post

Boxers you say? Well, I'm 6' 3" and find my large size Red Torpedo Crawfords fit me just fine. Comfy in the gusset with a nice waistband My Boxster on the other hand, can feel a touch too small. (981 is a perfect fit though)

POST 7Original post

I am 6'1" and don't find any problem. I found that the extendable lead made all the difference. Obedience training also helped. Great dogs, superb family pet. On the car front , I had no problem fitting in the boxster.

POST 16Original post

I'm 6'1. We had a 986 & now we have two 987s. There's plenty of space in the cabin but the problem is: at full adjustment, the steering wheel is too close to the pedals. If the seat doesn't go back far enough then if it's like my 993 you'll be able to take the seats out & re-mount them using different holes on the sliders (or get a local engineering firm to drill new holes if need be). Anyway, I should think the seats will be fine.

POST 17Original post

I think a smaller steering wheel would help immensely, or even a flat bottomed one.

POST 18Original post

Small steering wheels are no good on cars that have been designed for 380mm wheels: they reduce the amount of information being transmitted from the road wheels to your fingertips in much the same way that a heavy steering wheel does. I hate flat bottomed steering wheels. They make sense on some race cars, where you can go from lock to lock without moving your hands’ position on the wheel, but on road cars they’re just daft – another stupid marketing gimmick designed to appeal to people who know next to nothing about driving & think they’re cool because it makes their car like an F1 car.

POST 19Original post

Yeah yeah yeah..... But apart from that, it'd give me a bit more room. I'm not a driving God so 'steering' feedback means bugger all to me. ( I get your point about a small steering wheel not designed for other aspects of the car, though)

Manks, just how many times are you going to change your name? You haven't yet had 'shortfatbaldyguyinaporsche'. But I concur - I really do look like a dwarf driving a shoe. I'd like to think its a training shoe, as opposed to poncy loafer though. I actually get flies stuck to your juice on my chin. Edited by Zyp on Friday 13th December 20:58

I have no idea what you're talking about with regard to juice and chins.

POST 23Original post

I'm 6 5 and couldn't fit the early Boxsters. The 987 were loads better and the 981 is a non issue. An elephant could happily drive one of these. As a passenger the facelift that gave a glove box made all the difference.

POST 24Original post

I'm 6ft 6ins and long in the torso. Plenty of room in my 987s soft top with the seat full down and full back.

POST 26Original post

supersport said: I'm 6 5 and couldn't fit the early Boxsters. The 987 were loads better and the 981 is a non issue. An elephant could happily drive one of those. I am 6ft5 and find that on the early 986 it's a struggle but the standard seats and centre console delete help. The main issues is your head hitting the solid metal roll hoop in case of a shunt, not a nice thought. The 987 seems much better but still a bit short on legroom. Actually I find the 981 seems a step smaller than the 987!

POST 27Original post

6'4" - fitted ok, but needed a good stretch after about an hour of driving. 911 has more room - didn't realise how much more until I sat in a Boxster again recently. So if comfort is a factor, consider the 997 instead. However, Boxsters look cooler.
