Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

However, if the battery were failing to that extent, you would not be able to start the car and once the engine is running the alternator should be pushing out 14.2V which should be enough for the PCM.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Cayman '58: Garaged for last 10 days, wouldn't respond to unlock - tried other key, same response. Opened fine manually, all entry lights came on. I nervously commenced ignition and it started fine. Then a couple of minutes later I switched PCM on - no graphics.....about 2 minutes later the graphics very slowly faded into focus. It hasn't been particularly cold yet so I'm a little concerned about what might happen if I leave it garaged for a proper long spell. Surely a german manufactored car shouldn't be this cold sensitive?

POST 2Original post

I keep my Boxster connected to a CTEK charger if I'm not using it for any length of time

POST 3Original post

Assuming that Gen1 are similar to Gen2, the alarm system shuts down the remote controls after 7 days to conserve energy - hence manually opening the doors. However, if the battery were failing to that extent, you would not be able to start the car and once the engine is running the alternator should be pushing out 14.2V which should be enough for the PCM.

To reactivate the alarm system to use the remote a gentle tug on the drivers door handle is needed.

Excellent - that accounts for it. And as a by product I have scoured the forum and learnt all about trackle charging and the horrendous price of new batteries!

Put the key in the drivers door, turn it counter clockwise then back and remove, it turns the 'listener' back on and the key will work again. But, if you're having other power issues (which will be exaggerated as it gets colder), it can be a sign your battery is on the way out. Get a Bosch Silver in there and throw away the Porsche POS.

POST 7Original post

yup same for me, when i left the car on long stay, it wouldn't unlock remotely after 8 days. Opened manually and key in ignition sorts the "problem"..

POST 8Original post

no need to insert key. just lift the door handle as that wakes the car .. you can then unlock as normal
