I would take the car to a shop that has installed the LN IMS bearing before & have them install a new LN IMS bearing & check the clutch if you are able to afford the $ 600 for the IMS.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Just told by dealer I need to replace the clutch and pressure plate on my 99 - 996. He quoted $ 1900 Is that in the ball park. Hopefully I will not need a new flywheel.. Also I asked him to check the ims bearing. Can this be visually checked?

POST 2Original post

$1900. sounds about right for what a dealer will charge. I would take the car to a shop that has installed the LN IMS bearing before & have them install a new LN IMS bearing & check the clutch if you are able to afford the $ 600 for the IMS. If not you can check for oil leakage from IMS & RMS & remove IMS mounting flange & check for freeplay in IMS shaft any freeplay indicates a deteriorating bearing.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks so much for the advice. I will definitely have it checked and inspected. I wish the dealer could replace with an upgraded ims bearing.
