the mods for these cars are very tried and tested worldwide, so easy to cherry pick the parts to suit your pocket.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Can anybody recommend a reliable tuning company around Kent- Sussex, Surrey area? I don't want to go too far but added growl and induction noise with about 20BHP should do it.
go to a indy with a bag full of bits then and pay £35/hour to get them fitted.

987.1 tuning is slightly different to 987.2 tuning. either way you can end up with a circa 350BHp car with little out lay.
Most common upgrades are an IPD plenum with GT3 throttle body, some kind of aftermarket headers like the Fabspeeds, or a complete exhaust system like a Capristo (if you have very deep pockets). Then you'll need some kind of remap to take advantage of any mods - Softronic tends to be quite popular.
And no, I haven't done any of the above... yet :-)
I'm not sure about the plenum to fit the gt3 tb but the plenum to fit 74mm tb is only about £35. It can't be too hard to find out which one shares an 82mm tb then just buy that one.
More about drivability, the 987.1 car has quite a bad dead spot.
It' s worth tuning just to fix that :-).
Drivier training is always a stupid answer , put the same driver in the tuned car , tuned car will be faster.

Out of interest, what would you recommend to increase a 987.2 Cayman to 360-400 bhp without forced induction?
And what would each mod offer in terms of bhp / £ -

Fit a 997.2 gts engine which is 405bhp :-)
Not easy to get over 350bhp so just buy a engine in, plus not as bad as it sounds as you can sell the cayman engine to fund it.

I'm not stupid, and its "Driver" not "Drivier"
Most owners and drivers (the vast majority of us) fail to enable or realize the full capability of our performamnce cars due to a lack of knowledge or ability that may come with performance driving tutition. given access to an additional 70bhp as suggested previously does not always convert into usable performance and if it does it does not mean that the driver can handle it.
The 987.1 S does have a slight "flat" spot, common fault on most "world" cars which can be addressed by remap.

I'd be interested to hear about any decent UK Porsche specialist that charges so little!!

It's your comment that sounds stupid to me.
Put the trained driver in the standard car and he'll be faster than the untrained driver in the tuned car (based on the moderate tuning we're talking about) - as he will in any other similarly comparable cars.
Admittedly if you throw say £10,000-£15,000 at improving a Boxster S the untrained driver *might* be quicker round a track. It'd be an interesting challenge for an untrained driver to have a go in the Boxster S I raced and see if they're as quick as I am in a standard one.....
This isn't for a track car, its about induction noise, exhaust tone and tweaking the performance for just a little more to catch out my friend in his Porsche 911 as it just edges the Boxster at present.
I have been advised by David to get the following which seems to be a good package and worth a try.

There is also motawerk in saddlington.
Hope that helps :-)

I try and answer the questions which are asked, not go off on some strange driver training tangent.
For all we know the OP is some national GT champ.
It's a bit like me asking how to make an apple pie, but telling me I need to be a trained chef to even try and I am best just buying a ready made one !
Just a pet hate of mine on car threads that's all, when people ask for modding advice and posters quote driver training.
You don't see the people at the back of the F1 grid asking for training, they just want a faster car :-)
I'm looking at this as well - again, not intending to be a pro track driver but its nice to feel you've made the car more yours and hopefully improved it a touch.
Was looking at Design 911's tuning packages, but they seem to be bundled either with their own exhaust or the miltek - both of which I've heard can be quite boomy.
Any other retailers sell similar parts packages?
Have a scout around ebay and look on some of the Cayman/Boxster forums. You can get comparable products to those 'packages' for a fraction of the cost.

I think you'll find even the drivers at the front of the F1 grid still have driver coaching these days. I'm sure they all want a fast car too
I know they are not near you but I use Tech 9 for all my porsche jobs. To my 2011 boxster s they fitted cargraphic full system, throttle bodies, plenum and ecu. I haven't done a before and after dyno session but I don't need rollers to tell me it's faster and sharper and it also sounds crisper and a little louder. I've had 184 on the speedo, which I guess is fairly fast for a boxster. There must be someone nearer you who could fit all the same cargraphic parts.

An enlarged throttle body, BMC panel filter / K&N cone filter in the side air inlet (if you really want some induction noise), plus any exhaust that takes out two of the four cats should produce a good response when coupled with a re-chip. All off the shelf bits and easy to do. I've seen quite a few modded "S's" produce 340+ bhp when so modified ....
Ive spoken to 3 firms now and await costs and timeframes. Think it will be sports exhaust, throttle body, induction kit and remap. Just need to find eh exhaust to suite my wallet and produce a nice sporty note and not a horrible drone.........

Please save yourself some money
http://www.planet-9.com/reviews/boxster-performanc...
that will cost you money :-)
1: you cannot sell the car very easy esp if some one wants a 111 inspection, as you have just killed a 2.5k Porsche exhaust.
people like to buy as close to stock as possible or want the org parts. even more so a dealer.
2: what ever back box you buy you can resell for 60% of the cost.
so over all cost after sale = very small after selling all your bits.
NEVER sell or ruin a Porsche oem part, it can cost you thousands in the future.
I have seen it many many times, people selling old items for £100's when to replace would cost £1000's
If you want 20bhp plus more noise as per your OP then you'll need to consider doing more than just doing a backbox. It's all just time and money and how much you want to invest. If you don't enjoy the tinkering process then dropping it in somewhere and spending a lot more on a 'package' is straight forward. But if you enjoy a bit of research and a bit of a deal then there are savings to be made as well as the pleasure of messing about with your car. Myself, I've managed to source sports cats, 2 exhausts and a pair of manifolds for less than £500 and I can carry over the throttle body mod and some associated bits onto my latest Boxster.
These cars always make more than the factory claims, obviously not to tread on the 911's toes. I've got a Cayman S, my wife's got a Boxster S, I've also got my own dyno. We've had her's from new, it's standard and it regularly makes in the region of 320. Mines gets a harder more track based life with some mods and produced 359 last time I checked.
Exhausts work well as do cat less manifolds, tho you will lose a little torque low down with these. I've tested all manner of induction mods and lengths and still have not improved on the standard air box design, it's very good ( and an absolute b
h to get out).
They really do like a good thrashing, the ecu adapts well and keep them in quality fuel and they're happy

Good point on the power figures, my bog standard 981 S produced 335bhp and 280lb/ft of torque (standard is meant to be 315bhp and 266 lb/ft) on Surrey Rolling Road, last year and with only 2,000 miles on the clock .... I can see it going higher still .....
Must admit unless Porsche have changed something with the 13 reg map that was a strong power run!
Maybe Porsche forgot to fit the precats to yours
Would like to see another run after a few more miles maybe remapped ect
