I will say that I was forced to use the existing bolt that was attached to the aluminum bracket as I could not figure out how to remove the retaining clip to save my life.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was wondering if anyone has been successful with the replacement of a brake booster in an early 1999 996 (11/1998). I purchased the booster here (part number 996-355-923-00) installed it and now I have a solid pedal with very little travel and zero braking power. I am curious if I need to modify the actuation rod to the pedal based on this article: Pelican Technical Article: Replacing the Boxster Brake Booster and ABS Controller - 986 / 987 I will say that I was forced to use the existing bolt that was attached to the aluminum bracket as I could not figure out how to remove the retaining clip to save my life. There is a chance that the existing bolt is a bit longer but not by much. I also may need to purchase a new booster as I have a leak around the master cylinder (I may have over tightened the master cylinder just like article warned me about). Thanks! Keith

POST 2Original post

If I recall correctly, the new booster won't even connect up to the old linkage, something doesn't add up here. I posted the tech bulletin here, but I haven't looked at it in about a year or so: http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/Boxster_Tech/57-BRAKES-Booster-ABS/TechBulletin.pdf I'd take a look at it and then report back here on how it compares to your car. -Wayne
