I bought the car with the spacers already installed so unfortunately I do not have a before/after comparison.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

i just about ordering a set of spacers for my '00 Carrera,, what thikness you guys recommend for the best looks for both front and rear? pics will be really appreciated,,

POST 2Original post

Many people like 15mm F & R. I went with 15mm F and 7mm R.

POST 3Original post

15 in the front and rear will give you the same stance as the 996 GT3. IMO, that is the max you want to run and also looks the best. I would NOT run anything bigger than that. This is all based on the stock sizes and offsets of: Front-->8et50 Rear-->10et65

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 7636292

my 18s have these offsets: F: 7.5et50 R: 10et65 also, stock suspension; not lowered,, still 15 is the way to go?

POST 5Original post

Absolutely, you actually have a few more mm to play with in front since you have the narrower 7.5" front wheels. If you like I can post a pic of my 996 with GT3 wheels on it: Front 8.5 et40 Rear 11 et63

POST 7Original post

Are you going to keep your current wheels and current ride height? If so, then you only need to get a good calculated measurement on how far out you want your wheels.... If you are upgrading the wheels and /or lowering your car, it gets a bit more technical.... I have a 13mm spacer up front; 19 X 8 wheel with 57mm offset; so effectively a 44mm offset. the car seems to handle alot better with the front spacers added. in the rear, I am going to try a 7mm spacer on a 19 X 11 wheel with 67mm offset. it looks like it'll work just right, and I hope it handles better too. If not, I'm happy with the front spacers only. Tires also play a minor role due to how the sidewall is designed and effectively how the car will look with the spacers. Sorry I do not have a good pics of the wheels with the front spacers....but heres one with the 19's and no spacers.. remember to get the hubcentric spacers & correct length lug bolts. getting the alignment dialed in may help on how the rear looks.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 7636347

nice ride man,, they look great in this pic,, i wonder why you even needed spacers,,

POST 9Original post

Quotes source post: 7636361

the fronts were tucked in just a bit and since I do not have the car lowered, bringing the fronts out made it look better and improved the handling alot more. I am going to try the 7mm out back and see if it's noticeable; if it improves handling....another plus... The tires do not rub whatsoever...

POST 10Original post

GT3 wheels on my narrow body 996CAB with RoWM030 suspension so it's lower than stock.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 7636492

and you're using 15mm in all,, right? they look great,,

POST 12Original post

No, no spacers when using the GT3 wheels. The example I was trying to provide is what your stock wheels would look like 15mm spacers. Stock wheels + 15mm spacers = GT3 wheels with no spacers.

POST 13Original post

14mm spacers front, 7mm rear Sorry, I don't have a pic looking squarely at the rear of the car.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

this looks just like my car except for the color,, mine is silver,, man,, i liked your tips,, where did you get them?

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

JR, is your car lowered? are your tips similar to these? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...9236&viewitem=

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

JR, is your car lowered? are your tips similar to these? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...9236&viewitem=

POST 17Original post

The tips in that ebay ad are aftermarket. Not sure they will fit. Something just doesn't look right.

POST 18Original post

Quotes source post: 7637246

hmmm, I bought 7 & 15mm...put the 15's on the rear and never even put the 7's on...never even dawned on me to put the thicker ones up front. Guess I just assumed the pushed out rears might make it looker alittle more wide bodied (it didn't) but it did give it a more aggressive stance while lookin from the rear. With the thicker up front - did you get a better handling/steering feel ?

POST 19Original post

You should be able to dial out a little understeer with the wider track up front.

POST 20Original post

Quotes source post: 7637758

thanks, I'll change them out and give it a try....I have to take all the lugs off anyway (put on the spare set that I finally got around to stripping and re-painting - they look like new !)

POST 21Original post

Quotes source posts: 7637290, 7637745

The tips are Tequipment and the car is lowered on PSS9s. Here is a thread with a pair for sale. I bought the car with the spacers already installed so unfortunately I do not have a before/after comparison. That said, the steering feel is excellent and while the front end does push occasionally, I wouldn't say it has a tendency to do so.

POST 22Original post

Quotes source post: 7637328

Those ebay tips are a good deal if they are indeed similar to the Tequipment ones. But that ebay ad doesn't clarify if they are for MKI (which are shorter) vs. MKII (which are longer)... should ask them for an installed pic.

POST 23Original post

apologies for the thread jack but there is lots of information here so seems like a good place to ask my question: 997 18 carrera III's are 8" wide et57 and 10" wide et58. What spacer size would you say work best upfront? Im guessing the back at et58 would work as is and be like a normal et65 wheel with a 7mm spacer - is this correct? And if Im following the info above correctly, putting 7mm spacer upfront would make them fit like et50 and 15mm would make them fit like et 42? is 15mm too much? suspension is bone stock on the 996.

POST 24Original post

Quotes source post: 7717248

yes, leave et58 as is and put 15mm up front ending with et42, hell you can even put 17mm making them et40. It will end up like this...

POST 25Original post

Redridge- thanks. this 15mm spacer in the front (et42 vs stock et50)- will it require a different tire size or will I be able to run my 225.40.18's? thanks

POST 26Original post

Quotes source post: 7717712

Tires will not be an issue since you are not changing the size and width of the rim. You are only changing the stance of the wheel as it will sit wider than before.

POST 27Original post

If your suspension is "soft", you have to be careful when your wheels are pushed out very close to the wheel wells; you may experience tire and fender contact when driving into a dip or over speed bumps and that could make matters worse. If you have any of the Sport suspensions then you may be able to get away with minimal clearance between the tire and fender .
