Hmm, with ref to Pete B's reply and the RMS issue, Porsche have changed their warranty as from June this year - the warranty is now underwritten by Porsche themselves and not a third party insurance company.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Advice please ............. Warranty is up for renewal next month at a cost of £700, my car is a 42k 98 C2 with most of the big bits replaced already ie clutch discs etc, I have also had the RMS replaced only a week ago and I only do about 4k a year Should I renew or take a chance ????

POST 2Original post

Wast of money. My car is the same age and virtually every fault that has shown up has been dismissed by my OPC as "not covered". £700 better spent on a holiday in Spain, IMHO!

POST 3Original post

You could place the £700 in the bank each year just in case.

POST 4Original post

Consumables (brakes, clutch), of course will not be covered but if your car can be accepted onto the scheme with minimal or no cost, I would say go for it. For sure will help when you come to sell. I have same decision to make on my Boxster S, now just about two years old.

POST 5Original post

Having had an engine (Boxster S) catastrophically fail on me recentlyat 13.5k miles there is no way I'll NOT be renewing the warranty next year. £725 sticks in my throat somewhat but compared to cost of a replacement engine I'd say the £725 buys a comforting blanket of security. 3rd party warrant companies appear to offer a max claim limit of around £5k well short of what my (Porsche's) bill amounted to! Jackie

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Jackie, will the warranty cover engine failure ? I dont think so somehow, unless you can prove it failed due to a faulty component that was covered under the warranty scheme. regards

POST 7Original post

That's exactly why I think its a waste of money! I bought a warranted 911 from from my OPC. Three months later and less than 2,000 miles from purchase it needed new front discs, clutch and DMF flywheel. Even though I complained about drive shunt (the failed DMF) from almost day-one I got absolutely nowhere. And the RMS failed and the baffles then became loose in the rear box. None of these items would be considered by the OPC even though an independent engineer proved that the components were knackered the dealer refused to even accept liability and denied that the DMF (a mere £600+) was even faulty. Result - no more local business and I travel 80 miles to Kendal for the official services.

POST 8Original post

Hmm, with ref to Pete B's reply and the RMS issue, Porsche have changed their warranty as from June this year - the warranty is now underwritten by Porsche themselves and not a third party insurance company. My understanding is that any RMS failure WILL be covered by the terms of the post June '04 warranty. The terms and conditions book is available from any OPC...and it looks very comprehensive. Obviously the standard clauses still remain - OPC servicing, not abused, non standard parts etc. My experience of the warranty was very good, as was the repairing OPC (who didn't supply my car) The car was transported to the OPC and that was it...phone call to put my mind at rest, daily updates on the repair status, and the car transported back to me on completion. The warranty seemed to work very well...OPC diagnosed problem as 3 cracked liners, Porsche approved engine renewal and arranged for the replacement engine to be transported from Germany to Aberdeen...in less than 48 hours from receipt of my car the OPC had the new engine available to fit. I can't fault the handling of the repair in any way - no doubt much will depend on the OPC's "attitude" Needless to say I was hugely impressed. For me it's a simple choice (but the £725 cost still irks!) Jackie
