About year ago my Original P Design one (986-S) finally broke, I bought the Parts replacement, which is very similar in looks and size, to the point, I use the original leather Porsche Design Cover in the cubby.

I've never actually used the umbrella - I simply use it to fill the hole in the sill

What kind of Porsche driving "sissy" use's an umbrella?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Is there a current door sill umbrella for these? I have worked my way through every part number as high as the one ending in G, and they all seem to be discontinued.
Yes, I am aware of those, but am trying to find a current part number since both of those sources have in my experience raised prices on certain items above list.
This umbrella comes from Porsche's Drivers' Selection, and is a genuine item of memorabilia from the German car brand. The umbrella comes in a black colour, has a slender metal frame, and a comfortable plastic grip. It can be stored in the back of a Porsche, ready to deal with rain showers, but suits any sports car fan who needs protection from the elements. For reference, the MPN is: WAP0500810D.
is that the part number?
i'm not familiar with how these part numbers change as they become discontinued

I got mine a year or two ago - I think it was about $10 less than what they're charging now. It's "genuine Porsche"... of course it's expensive - and getting more so... What else is new.
I get that, but when they are listing the head head replacement buttons for $24.95 and the MSRP on them is $17.57, I am skeptical of their prices. My experience has been they are always more expensive than other dealers.
Thank would be great, thanks.
Well I'll be damned! I had absolutely no idea what that cutout was for in the sill! I just figured it was some super secret German engineering voodoo. Thanks.
^^Really? I find them (Suncoast) to always be right around the same ballpark as others - Some things are a little more expensive and sometimes they're a little cheaper. The thing that bugs me most about them is shipping - often exorbitant for relatively small things. Anyway, I thought $40 or $50 was kind of crazy for a little umbrella, but it really is pretty cool - it's just one of those things where they thought out how to utilize that little area of door sill and make it useful...
I should clarify, it's their prices on the accessories they sell without reference to a real part number that tend to be high. The price for the owners manual case is another good example.
I can confirm you that the sill umbrella has the same price in Suncoast than at the dealer. Actually, it was a little lower on Suncoast when I was looking for mine and I ended ordering it to them.
This is the PN for the door sill umbrella: WAP-050-081-0D
The original umbrella model for the 996 was different back in the time, but now is no longer for sale. This fits perfectly though
I saw one on Ebay a year or more ago where the seller said the umbrella was made for the 996 with the newer ones being generic to fit multiple models. Any truth to that?
Maybe. Mine is from Ebay and was advertised as 996 specific. It is part # WAP0500810D which shows as 'Discontinued' at the dealers I normally use but still available at others. Who knows?
Porsche remove the cubby hole to store the umbrella on the 991 series. They finally realize that the true enthusiast would never subject the 911 to rain.
About year ago my Original P Design one (986-S) finally broke, I bought the Parts replacement, which is very similar in looks and size, to the point, I use the original leather Porsche Design Cover in the cubby. The one with the Silver Grommet at one end to stick you finger in to pull out. No one but me knows the difference.
I don't drive in the rain with the Targa on purpose , but when caught out, it's a welcome addition to the cabin mate when getting out.
Someone needs a Pic let me know.
so true!!! I never drive mine on days when rain is expected, but got caught out once or twice and no one (and I mean no one) will tailgate a 996 c4s in the rain, lol.
That's an excellent price. Most of them are priced closer to $100. I picked up mine from Suncoast last year. I presume its the 997 version but as others have said, it fits the same.
I just received this umbrella.
It is not anything like the one pictured from Suncoast.
This ended up being WAP-340-004-0L-CLS not
WAP-050-081-0C
It is a GT4 / Club Sport umbrella, Black, with purple and yellow panels with no Porsche logo on slip case
My bad, Suncoast didn't list a Porsche part number they list,
#PK2012UMBRELLA, I
didn't do my homework and check part numbers,
Back it goes
Inexpensive alternative and it fits just fine in the cubby. For the price I figured it was pretty much disposable but it's not bad at all and looks decent.

My 996 is my daily driver, so it sees rain often.
I keep a small $20 umbrella in the storage area on the drivers door.
But it rarely gets used.
I park in the garage at home, and in a parking garage at work.
A few times I’ve needed it...but not very often.
This thread cost me money
But now I have a Porsche umbrella.
I read somewhere on the internet that it should give +5hp @ 9500 rpm.
I spent most of the day doing the installation, it is now installed and I think I feel it in the butt dyno.
Hmmmm, I could be wrong
It only took me five hours but I have the Porsche factory install tool.
I guess this shows that BMW ownership cost is lower than Porsche. Their umbrella is only $42.00.
Just curious if anyone has tried this one. I'm thinking this must be for the 991/992?? If it fits, it does seem to be more affordable.

I did this. Not official, but has a decent porsche logo.
