I recently replaced my passenger side window regulator which caused me to leave my battery disconnected for nearly 2 weeks (waiting for parts). Once I brought the systems back up, I noticed that the temperature does not properly display on the LCD screen. See pics. The temperature indication changes when I adjust the temp switch but does not indicate properly. I had tons of errors and fault codes from having the car powered down so long and am hoping that there is a quick fix for this issue. Anyone else experience this problem?
Related question: when I start my car, the entire climate control screen flashes a few times. I don't recall if this is normal as I didn't really pay attention until after the issue was discovered.
Did you try pulling the fuse for the HVAC circuit? Or maybe that is some type of error code for that system. Do you have a
PIWIS tester
or
Foxwell
or Durametric, that you could check that with?

I did not pull the fuse. That's a great idea! I will try that after work this afternoon. I have an iCarsoft POR V2.0 scanner which I used to clear most of the errors. Based on my research, I have 2 codes that are resident due to having an aftermarket sound system. I will try the fuse then check codes again. Thanks for the suggestions!
If the fuse method does not work, I would:
1. just drive around the block for a few mins to see if everything comes back "alive." (believe it or not, this was a required step when reconnecting my radio
)
2. and if this is purely a display issue, you may want to clean the board and the connection between the board and the display. I had the infamous radio display issue which I was able to "fix" (posted
here
a few days ago). I don't remember exactly how the HVAC display is connected to the board but I would think the method is the same (i.e., via the "zebra connector" which I think is a sht design). If your symptoms are: 1) the display does not change while all buttons work or 2) the display suddenly works then stops again or 3) no display for awhile then suddenly starts displaying again, then the connection issue may be the culprit.
Thank you for taking the time to share this with me! I made a list of fixes and will let everyone know if any of them do the trick. I will check out your post as well. Thanks again!
Good luck!! I guess our joy of owning older porsches is fixing them!!
Any outcome to your problem? I have the same issue.
This reply is long overdue but I had some very difficult family issues to deal with over the last year+.
I finally had an opportunity to continue troubleshooting this issue.
I pulled the fuse as recommended, no change in problem status.
I used my
iCarsoft
2.0 to check/clear codes and it also did not correct the issue.
I purchased a replacement LCD screen. It was a super easy replacement but unfortunately, did not correct the issue.
I'm at the point now which I either need to live with the fact that I cannot see the temperature setting (not likely), purchase a new climate control module (looks to be around $1,200) or purchase a used climate control module ($300-$600 on eBay).
I will update as I continue to work through this.
Did you "just" replaced the LCD or did the LCD come with a "new" zebra (rubber) connector? The zebra connector needs to make good contact between your LCD and the board.
Hi
jtcjnorris
,
Did you finally have the problem solved? Like you I had probably the battery disconnected for some time ( went for maintenance) and given back with the same issue.
Clearing codes with hand reader or replacing the small panel display did not solve the issue, the controls though all work normally.
Any help?
Hi danlef, sorry but no resolution thus far. I tried to inspect/clean contact points as suggested above. Unfortunately, I believe that the control module failed when I removed power. I'm looking at replacement control module options now. The used ones on eBay are attractive but they are also nearly 20 years old like mine. Like yours, mine works fine, I just can't make out the display. I may end up getting a new replacement control module just to satisfy my OCD.
Keep us posted on your efforts as well!
