Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Been using the
Homelink
repeater but my buddy with the same repeater kept running into issues with 3 different repeaters. He decided to replace the module with an
Audi
/ VW one (8K0 07 410 C) and I actually did the same since I have my front bumper off to replace the headlight washer pump. Easy enough and works well.
Just fantastic,
@Hoster987
- Are you both using the same repeater? Do you have a picture of the repeater you're using? I may get one when I get the 981 Outlaw on the road next spring. It's strange that my 987.2 HomeLink works just fine with my garage door opener, but no go with the 981.
LiftMaster 855LM
Homelink
Repeater was the one I purchased. Is there a chance your module is "bad" or missing? Heard somewhere that for
981
,
Homelink
may have been an "option" perhaps?

That's great,
@Hoster987
- I'll have to try again in the spring. It does come with HomeLink -- but I don't believe it was compatible and I may have needed a repeater. Strange as the older 987.2 module works just fine with my opener that's just a few years old.
The
Homelink
in my 2008
Cayman
worked fine until I had to replace the garage door opener. The new opener controller used rolling codes, that were not supported by the older
Homelink
module in the
Cayman
. Replacing the
Homelink
module with a newer one likely supports the rolling codes, solving your problem.
I use the same repeater and with that
Audi
part pricing around $900 dollars no reason to change what is working

I did this swap a few years ago and here is what I wrote at the time in another thread:
The
Homelink
Bridge works pretty well, but it is not as good as updating the
Homelink
module behind the front bumper to the newer part number. I have tried both options. The newer part number is 8K0907410C. It is a VW
Audi
Porsche
part and there are many on ebay. Mine came out of a wrecked 2015
Panamera
and works great in my 06
Cayman
. It is a
plug
and play swap, but you have to take the front bumper off which isn’t that difficult if you enjoy wrenching.
I found that the newer module provides a significantly improved range and is much more reliable compared to the old module and
Homelink
Bridge.
I have a 2010
987.2
, sometimes the
Homelink
works on the first try, other times it takes 20 times. The 987
Boxster
part number for the module is 997 618 227 03 (with 227 02 being listed as "discontinued"). I found one on eBay vs. the VW/
Audi
part and they look very similar. Do you have to program the
Homelink
multiple times to cover all of the rolling codes? That might be my issue.
You do NOT have to remove the front bumper to access and replace the
HomeLink
module on a
Porsche 987
. But my method will require you to work by touch. So it helps if you first view pictures or videos of the car without the bumper so you can see the
HomeLink
module and how it is mounted. But to reach the
Homelink
module, all you need to do is pop loose the black oval scoop located behind the lower middle section of the bumper fascia. Leave the oval scoop laying in the opening behind the bumper fascia - no need to remove the scoop. Now you can lay on your back and reach up inside and behind the bumper fascia to get to the HimeLink module. You can’t see what you’re doing, so removal and replacement must be done by hand and sense of touch. It’s frustrating, but still way easier than removing the bumper, fighting with rusty damaged torx screws, and risking damage to multiple old, fragile plastic bits. The
HomeLink
module hangs under a bracket and is released from the bracket by pushing a tab. The wire harness is friction fit and easy to pull loose, but it is oriented in one direction. With a flashlight, you can see the wire
plug
, and the female wiring junction on the
HomeLink
module - you’ll need that picture in your mind to
plug
it back in during re-installation. Re-installation requires you to reverse the process. Be prepared to use sense of touch and patience. Curse words don’t help, but may make you feel better.
Interesting idea, but I don't know what is involved in this. I'm assuming you mean the black dummy cover where a 3rd radiator would be installed. How is that removed? Also, what else needs to be removed to get to it?
My Cayman is currently raised on a QuickJack and it won't be going anywhere for a few weeks. But I'm currently recovering from knee injury after a fall and I'm not looking to go crawling around on the garage floor. But I could probably do the Homelink work by reaching up while lying on my back. I've never tried removing the bumper cover but after watching a few videos it seems more work than I feel like doing at his time.
Yes, what you are calling the dummy cover is what I removed to get access. The dummy clips mate into a lot of slots (I think 4 on top, 4 on bottom, and 1 on either side.) I just put a thick towel inside to protect the part, and then a wood dowel which I tapped with a hammer until the dummy cover popped loose. To pull the dummy cover back into position, I put two strings around it, and pulled it forward until it engaged in the slots. Very fiddly and frustrating.
Porsche
could have made this a lot easier… sigh…..
That’s a solid upgrade, swapping to the
Audi
/VW module seems like a cleaner, more reliable solution than dealing with flaky repeaters. Smart move doing it while the bumper's off too, perfect timing to knock it out.
Did the same a month or 2 ago. I have two different garage openers - one older, one much newer. Had a Homelink repeater but never really worked properly or reliably for both garages.
The VW-Audi used module (eBay ~$25) works like a charm.
Could that be the issue in my 07? I had an 01
Porsche 911
and a 2011
911
and had no issues programming the
Homelink
but in this 07 I simply cannot get the fog lights to showing it mated with the car. I have a rolling code which would require one more step to pair but cannot get the
Porsche
pair in the first step.
