Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Brake bulb is going goofy on me… the brake light side is out but the lights on side of the bulb works… ideas?? Started off on the left side, replaced bulb works now it’s the right side. New bulb same no brake light

POST 2Original post

Your question isn't understandable to me - but I'll have a general go at it anyway.. It sounds as if more than 1 bulb is acting up. Since it might be (your explanation leaves a bit to be desired) a brake bulb ("brake light side") and a standard taillight bulb ("lights on side of the bulb"??) - failure would be due to a common failure point. The only common point between these two bulbs is the ground for the lamp assembly. IIRC that goes to a stud welded to the chassis somewhere near the taillight assembly. Wires going to it would be brown. That's where I'd look first. Beyond that - I'd be looking for damaged wiring or a damaged taillight connector. If you'd like to describe the failure modes a bit more clearly I might be able to make a better guess as to the cause. "Better questions get better answers"... (me.)

POST 3Original post

Brake light bulbs are also lights on bulbs… The brake light side of the bulb doesn’t work… It started off on the driverside, fixed that, now it’s the passenger side

POST 4Original post

It's a dual-filament bulb? And the failure moved from one light assembly to the other? Unlikely to be the connectors since there is one for each. I'd try yet another bulb - it doesn't surprise me at ALL that both lights suffered the same failure around the same time - both have likely been in the car the exact same amount of time, so one fails, the other one isn't far behind. In general for Euro cars - they can be fussy about bulbs. They generally want the silver based bulbs (nickel plated base). Sometimes the copper based ones just don't make good contact. Most auto-parts places now carry the euro spec bulbs with the silver color base. And the reason I didn't know about the dual-filament bulb - if you look at my SIG - my Boxster has LED rear lights from the factory. No filament bulbs in the back.

How nice for you 😂 My 997 doesn’t have these silly bulbs either which is why I didn’t know what the hell was going on either… German cars are bulb finicky I’m on the updated taillights fence… I just can’t figure out what is junk and what is good’r’er… most places seem either sold out or their 800.00.

If the tail light works but the brake light doesn't, even with a new bulb, it's likely a bad socket or a grounding issue. Check for corrosion or loose contacts in the bulb socket. Also, inspect the wiring and make sure the ground connection is solid. If the socket looks worn or damaged, replacing it may solve the issue. Ask ChatGPT
