Then check the vacum gauge on the compression tester and write down the ammount of Vacum the gauge is reading from that cyclindar, Now do that to all the cyclindars.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just as the title says. I was changing the oil and while I was cleaning the oil filter housing cover I found very small pieces of metal or what I think is metal. I couldn't find any in the oil filter, which seemed weird. Anyone else have this happen?

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Bump,I know plenty of people on this board have changed their own oil before.

POST 3Original post

Have you checked your compression or oil pressure in the past? Might be a good idea to check it again. When i had brass/gold looking flakes in my oil on my MY65 912, it was result of a desolving brass valve guide. Explained all the tapping in my driverside head.

POST 5Original post

I recently saw what lookes like small metal flakes in my oil when I changed it. Car has been running like a top. I will send in a sample of oil as per the recommendations of other members to have it analyzed. Ed

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey edevlin, I only found the small flakes in my oil filter housing cover it seemed. I couldn't find it on the filter or in the oil, weird huh? Be sure you post what they say about your oil.

POST 7Original post

Pull all the ignition coils and sparkplugs out, disable the fuel pump so it isnt pushing fuel into the cyclindars while you do this. Then screw in the compression tester hose into one of the sparkplug fittings on the head. Then have someone sit in the drivers seat, Hold the accelerator down all the way while they crank the engine over 4-5 times. Then check the vacum gauge on the compression tester and write down the ammount of Vacum the gauge is reading from that cyclindar, Now do that to all the cyclindars. Ask MNboxster for the limits of how close the compression should be from one cyclindar to the next.
