I disconnected the wires from the driver side light, but was still unable to either remove the lens cover or disconnect the housing from the bracket that holds the light fixture.

I installed a really bright error free frunk from deAutoLED:

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Any one upgrade their interior lights to
LEDs
? How did you like the comparison to the old lights? Worth the time and effort?
Suncoast
has a kit for all the models. I am linking the
Boxster
kit since this is what I have. (

I replaced all of the incandescent bulbs with
LED
's, much brighter and a lot cleaner light. I love the
LED
's, my girlfriend.. not so much :hilarious:
I installed the
Suncoast
kit right after it was announced. I posted a review on their site as well. Not cheap but it was worth it to me. Much better than the incandescents and will probably last much longer without producing all that heat that eventually causes plastic parts to become brittle.
I thought about getting these, but I don't know why I'd want the interior to be brighter, really. Whiter light might be nice, but I don't need the interior lighting to ruin my night vision.
I bought mine as a CPO and the previous owner had done this (there was almost no option he did not add or try......). I think they are ok but I would not have spent the money to do it myself. For me........my POV, there are better places to spend the money.
Hi,
I bought the
led
kit from
Suncoast
, then I got this email from them. Anyone get this email?
I'm writing in regards to the
LED
interior light package you have purchased from
Suncoast
. We have been very satisfied with the quality and style of bulbs which come with this kit. We have recently found that in some cars the front trunk light is causing faults, the low wattage seems to be too efficient for some cars. The unusual readings may drain the
battery
of a car in storage. No check engine type lights, nothing that serious. We are recommending that you replace the front trunk bulb with your original bulb, or we can provide a stock replacement bulb if you need it. We wanted to let you know right away, and do what we can do to assist you.

I caved and ended up adding this kit to a recent order (I was also getting sick of the yellow "pee" colored frunk light)...I have to say that I'm very satisfied with this purchase: lights are bright and look great (even during the day), and installation was a snap. I would recommend this mod to anyone on the fence.
replaced the interior with JDM Toy
leds
(white), I'll take another picture at night.
Also, I have a 2012
Cayman
and the driver's side foot well light was really easy to remove. The wire had enough slack to pull the housing out completely and dangle a good 3 inches.
When you lock the doors with the keyless remote, do the
LED lights
dim out, or do they shut off instantly. I kinda like the idea of having dimmable lights.

Do someone can explain me how to remove the feel light on driver side to replace it?? the passenger one is really easy while on the driver side the plastic piece containing the bulb is closed inside a black plastic piece and I can not put out (I tried pushing up and pushing down but both movements looks impossible). Thanks for help.....it is the only light I can not remove. I have already replaced all the others and the effect is nice.
Same as passenger side but harder to pull out. See instructions from another post on page 2:

5. Drivers/Passenger Footwells - Ok now this had me steaming for a while. I pryed and pulled on this housing and had no effing idea on how to pull it out without ripping the wires out. I almost gave up and then moved to the passenger footwell. The passenger side housing came out very easily and I was able to see that I needed to remove the electrical plug behind the drivers side footwell in order to take the housing out from under the footwell. After disconnecting the plug you can work on replacing the bulb. The drivers side is noticeable shorter in terms of slack for this electrical connection and makes it a *PAIN* to change. So again disconnect the plug first, then pry the bulb housing out on the drivers side.
I've been able to do all of the lights except the footwells in 2011
Cayman
. I disconnected the wires from the driver side light, but was still unable to either remove the lens cover or disconnect the housing from the bracket that holds the light fixture. Any add'l details on how to actually get to the bulbs on the drivers side and passengers side footwells? Thank you.
I just wanted to add my post to inform others of my experience after reading through the forums. I purchased my
LEDs
from iJDMToys (I suggest you buy your
LEDS
from eBay, much cheaper;
LEDS
from all the other sources are more expensive but from the various manufacturers...all from China, no quality difference than what you can find on ebay...the interior lights are the same wedge bulb size, and the trunks use the same festoon bulb size). First I found the size bulbs needed from all interior lights including the front and read trunk area. The installation is headache in most spots as
Porsche
does not make it easy to pry these housing out, so be very careful...I broke a couple tabs. The brittle plastic housing is frustrating. Maybe
Porsche
does this on purpose so you buy new plastic housings. Also, I replaced the front trunk light with a
LED
; but the front trunk light for my car stayed dimly light after I closed the frunk. I used my smartphone and recorded on video by placing it in the frunk as I closed it and it showed the light would not turn off but just turn dim. It drained my
battery
, as I figured it out too late.
I was posting on another thread and this came up as a "similar" thread and I really want to help as I was in the same boat! I ordered from IJDM and then
amazon
and then ebay, I had issues with them not being bright, not matching my interior
LED
kit, errors, and a few stayed on while the car was off!
Searching I found deAutoLED.com I had no issues with any of their
LEDs
and they are BRIGHT as heck! I hate to keep making the same post but this site was near impossible to find on my own and I was actually suggested here by a friend who had the same experience until he found deAuto. I hope my post
points
people in the right direction so they don't end up spending hundreds on
LEDs
that don't work or look right like I did.
I installed a really bright error free frunk from deAutoLED:
Front Trunk / Frunk LED Fits: Porsche 911 - Cayman - Boxster - 921/194 Bulb — deAutoKey
It was all plug and play, I went with the Stage II and it is insanely bright, it is so bright that it actually will shine light on the wall, I love it.
I made a post here:
http://www.planet-9.com/981-cayman-...-first-mods-my-cayman-s-led-turn-signals-deautoled-com-footwell-frunk-leds.html
I know the photos suck but they have a lot of great product including the footwells, glove box and side markers that are white but light up amber which is stealthy and legal:
LEDs for Porsche — deAutoKey
I currently have the glove box, frunk, and white footwells, all working great a year later.
edit: I cannot find the side marker LEDs on their website! I sent them an email, I will keep updated if they reply.
Yes I did it 2 yrs. ago and LOVE it! I hated the dull yellow incandescent lights. The
LED
are much brighter, whiter, and "cleaner". . .must be an "X" chromosome thing, but the Mrs. doesn't like them!
