I have been wanting a better and cleaner way to connect my
iphone
to my stock
CDR-30
(with
Bose
) since purchasing my
987.2
Boxster
several years ago. I stumbled onto a site that sells an adapter that allows me to connect my phone directly to my stock radio. I can play iTunes, maps and other features. Bluetooth is maintained so I can still use my phone, and the phone charges when connected.
My car has the factory Aux connection which is disconnected when this unit is installed. The installation is very straightforward, and instructions are easy to follow. Customer service has been top notch. I used to have multiple cables to use the Aux connection when I wanted to be able to charge. The sound quality is much improved as well. I used to struggle with the volume level through the phone and often times got engine noise coming through the speakers.
After trying to post, I get a message suspecting spam. This is not spam. You will need to do a search for Discount Car Stereo and once on the site, search for the
Porsche
Lightning Adapter.
Hi
@klr.photoart
- Welcome to P9. Definitely be sure to introduce yourself with car photos in the new members section, before posting technical posts -- it's a strong tradition here. From your handle, are you into photography by chance?
Very cool that you found an adapter that works for the CDR-30. I used to have a CDR-30, but ditched it in favor of an inexpensive Sony HU that offered CarPlay. I used to be an OEM HU purist, but wanted a larger screen size with CarPlay largely for Waze -- as it's far better than a radar detector. Whatever you do, CDR-30 or not, make sure you have Waze protection running on your smartphone! You'll thank me later.
Was the spam warning from P9? I can see how the filter might have suspected spam on this. Thanks for the heads-up! Cheers.
I have already written to the admins about the account that this was posted with. I am now logged in with my original Planet-9 account; still not sure how that happened. The spam warning was, I think, due to the fact that I had posted an embedded link to the vendor's site. Agree with the larger screen being a good upgrade but I was a bit leery about switching head units especially with the
Bose system
that I currently have. Not really into spending a lot of time and money on an upgrade such as that although I am sure I would appreciate it if I were to do so.
Can't remember if I had done a formal introduction when I first joined but I will do so later this afternoon.

Oh, great -
@KLR-VA0501
- Yeah, one is only supposed to have a single account here.
Again, you can't go wrong with the CDR-30 by any means. An inexpensive HU upgrade should be pretty simple (mine cost $150 NIB on Craig's List), but yes -- you'd likely need an adapter given that the BOSE system uses fiber-optic cables (MOST). Lots of great threads on here about that if you ever are so inclined to mess with that - one of the best upgrades I did to my 987.2. Again, thanks for the update and posting about this - and very much looking forward to your intro!
