I'm tempted to buy a used CDR30 off ebay and see what kind of luck I have but figured I'd see if anyone here had a different suggestion of things to check first.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hey everyone long time lurker adsorbing everything 987 I can and recently pulled the trigger on an 09 987.2 Cayman Base. loving the car and the PPI came back clean but one thing I'm struggling with is the minimum volume on the CDR-30 with SPP is super loud. like theif you try and back it off you get zero volume and when you do get volume it's too loud to even have a conversation with the passenger without raising your voice. and if you try to preset a radio station, the "beep" sound is ear bleedingly loud. I dug around in settings with no luck. the dealer who did the PPI also had no luck with any settings and defaulted to saying its an issues with either the unit, the amp, or maybe even the pcm module. in other words they have no idea. curious if anyone else has had a similiar issue? I'm tempted to buy a used CDR30 off ebay and see what kind of luck I have but figured I'd see if anyone here had a different suggestion of things to check first. I'm by no means a big audiophile so I'm not really interested in dropping big bucks to upgrade if I don't have to. Thanks in advance!

POST 2Original post

When I first turn it on I immediately reduce the volume because it is ear shreddingly loud, and if it’s not on a radio station, it’s super loud static. What you describe about the let’s call it bandwidth between the low volume and high volume? It’s like that on my car as well in fact on the highway because of the thinner canvas top, I cannot find a balance point with the top up to listen to music without it being too loud to hurt my ears or too low. I can listen to spoken radio stations, but no music on a trip. As nuts as this might sound, I don’t mind the silence. It helps me engage on driving more and I listen to the motor, which sings a great song as we all know. But might take is that what you are experiencing is common to that radio unit.

POST 3Original post

(I know this is an old thread but just joined) YES, this is awful for my '20 Boxster . Lately it won't save the pre-set stations so it's either startlingly loud static or song from the CD. The aux input allows me to modulate volume from my phone but that connection has its own set of issues. Ready to replace the whole unit.
