Since this I've ordered a new air filter but I want to know if this is due to the MAF sensor going out because of it being left outside.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, I just finished replacing my starter, I accidentally forgot the air box outside and I live in a very pollen present location. After I went to start the car, everything starts up fine but it will eventually shut off. After I disconnect the MAF sensor from the car, it will at least start and hold idle but the idle is lightly rough. Since this I've ordered a new air filter but I want to know if this is due to the MAF sensor going out because of it being left outside. Can I buy a maf cleaner and clean it or would I have to order a new one? Thank you.

POST 2Original post

I doubt the pollen had anything to do with the MAF malfunctioning. More likely an insect or Spider crawled into the Sensor for a nice hiding place, or a Dirt Dobber or something.....or even the wind could have blown in some trash... Spider webs near the MAF play hell with the airflow measurement...I have seen it many times on cars that have sat disassembled for a while.... No Harm in trying to clean it to see if it returns to normal function...BUT ,, since you just got through installing a new starter, my gut tells me you got a big vaccum leak causing your particular problem... It happens all the time and has the exact same symptoms...

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Makes sense, I did notice that the one rubber tube that connects to the throttle body seems to be a little old and on its way out. I'll start there. Thank you.
