I've thought about changing the option, but decided I'd be safer going through the current action of letting the trunk fall freely and then pushing it closed at the end.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hey all, I thought I remembered reading somewhere that you could code the 987.2 such that when you popped the rear hatch the two side windows would drop slightly (similarly to how it drops when you open the door). I've been trying to find this with my Foxwell unit but haven't had any luck. Has anyone been able to do this?

POST 2Original post

I have the directions on my PC. I'll post them when I can get to it.

POST 3Original post

This is the only one I found regarding the window lowering when hatch is opened. It's on my list to try but haven't gotten to it yet. Copied from a post on this forum or the other one... If you do it, reply back if these directions below are accurate and how it turned out for you. the "windows dip" trick when the hatch was opened. Anyway I navigated around until I found a list of categories organized by area/functionality. I eventually found one called "Driver's Door". Opening that I found a list for displaying and testing many related things. I finally found what I wanted in the section oddly named "Brush Hidden/Modified" Paging through the items I found one mentioning "Window short stroke by lugg. comp operation". IIRC it had no current setting and opening it I found the option to change it to "Release". Then I pressed the "Write Code" button at the bottom of the page. It is my best recollection that this was all I did. But I won't swear to it. Anyway, I backed out of the app and used my key fob to pop-the-hatch. What da ya no! The driver's window dropped a couple inches!!! Don't forget to make the same coding change for the passenger door.

POST 4Original post

OK I'm curious. Why would you want to do this? I'd really like to have the ability to fully lower the windows remotely to let the heat out, but am not sure of the use case that ties into opening the hatch.

POST 5Original post

I think it's so when you slam the trunk it closes better because there's a way for the air to escape? But I thought there were already vents in the rear sides of the trunk that would help with that. Could be wrong, though.

POST 6Original post

While the cockpit isn't air tight, when the hatch closes it does compress the air inside. I did a non-scientific experiment: let the hatch close under it's own weight with the driver window closed and then with it open. Window closed, the hatch won't close fully, but with the window open it does. Benefits for me - black car, so I don't have to put my hand on the exterior hatch to push it down - no fingerprints. Other is the passenger doesn't get that compressed air squeeze (Not a lot, but it's there and my wife is sensitive to it).

POST 7Original post

I'm kind of surprised you need it, because I checked and it looks like there is a cabin vent on each side above and behind the rear wheel to let air pressure out (part 14 on the diagram). But maybe the additional venting area helps.

POST 8Original post

thank you @916Carl I will poke around in my Foxwell to see if i can find the similar menu. Yah, the reason I want to do this is to lower the effort to closing the hatch. The amount of effort windows open vs windows closed is quite a bit. I figured it might be a good thing to try.

POST 9Original post

Just to loop back on these instructions, I did find similar menu items for coding on the driver and the passenger door. I changed the setting from "Lock" to "Release" as shown on this menu item for both doors. Worked like a charm, hatch closes super easy now. Thanks again for this!

POST 10Original post

If it's like my 987.1 Cayman , letting the trunk drop from the open position doesn't close the trunk if the windows are closed. The trunk is buffered by air. If you crack the windows, then the trunk closes just fine. Actually, it closes more than fine: The user manual warns against slamming the trunk, which is what happens. I've thought about changing the option, but decided I'd be safer going through the current action of letting the trunk fall freely and then pushing it closed at the end. Safer that way.

POST 11Original post

Can confirm the coding instructions as above work. Did both doors and they drop with key fob or button hatch release. Hatch closes and latches much more gently now !

POST 12Original post

As an added benefit I can lower/raise the windows by holding the Lock button on the fob. While unlocking, continue holding the button then release when the windows reach your desired height. When locking and windows are open, hold the button and they will fully raise. I'm not sure if this requires some additional coding or if it is just a side-benefit. I did this with my ThinkDiag a while ago.

POST 13Original post

Hmm, are you saying we can do the raise/lower with fob with this change? If true, I'll certainly look for it as well... that's one feature I'd love to get (don't need the trunk one, but do want the window-one, if possible!

POST 14Original post

That's easy. For those not wanting to watch the video, it's just going into the driver and passenger door programming (coding/adaptation) and customer specific settings. In there you can turn on open comfort and close comfort, which enable these bits. Is there a solution to the passenger side issue mentioned in the video? Or does that not happen on 987?

POST 15Original post

I don't have that issue. Maybe his passenger window control needs to be recalibrated.
