Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. The car at the time of testing the battery was not running, but the front trunk was open to gain access to the battery and the drivers window down and key in the ignition.

I don't have access to any testing equipment so before I ask my indie to investigate, is it normal for the battery to go flat in two weeks?
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Thank you so much for that information, it has solved my problem.
I have just had a new battery fitted to my 996 Targa, but when the battery was checked to make sure everything was ok the readings said that I have a battery drain of -1.3amps, is this ok and a normal reading?
The car at the time of testing the battery was not running, but the front trunk was open to gain access to the battery and the drivers window down and key in the ignition.
it may be normal but it just seemed a little high to me.
kind regards
Andy
That sounds way too high to me Andy. A rogue radio/PCM system or tracker maybe?
For starters I'd try pulling fuses while monitoring the current drain to see if you can track down the source.
Jeff
Yes, 1.3A is a bit high. For the first 5 minutes of the test it should be less than 1A. Best bet is to follow the procedure in this post:

I think the test conditions are important . Lock down the latch on the bonnet with a screwdriver, lock the car and wait 5 mins. You should see something about 0.25A or better. You man need to calibrate your gauge too.
Don‘t just check it with the car unlocked and say ignition on.

I amp ish sounds like a 12 w lamp on. Have you looked through the vent in the engine cover to see if the light is on? I hade a drain issue, and found out that either the bonnet switch or the engine cover switch can turn this light on and new switches are expensive. I took my engine bay lamp out
Thank you so much for that information, it has solved my problem.
When I had the new battery fitted the RAC man took out the bulb in the front trunk and then measured the current drain, not realising that the trunk catch also operated the light in the engine bay. (Giving the reading of a current drain)
Thank you so much, this has saved me a lot of trouble.
Kind regards
Andy
Hi,
I don't have access to any testing equipment so before I ask my indie to investigate, is it normal for the battery to go flat in two weeks?
I have a 2002 C4S with a brand new Bosch battery, yet after circ 2 weeks of not using the car, it won't start, dead.
I had a BMW Z3M Coupe that would start on the button after a month+ of no use.
Thanks
I have a 2002 C4, 2 weeks locked with the alarm on is about right before the battery is discharged, nothing else wrong, just charge it and it will be fine, is it kept in a locked garage ? if so then either don’t lock it or just lock the door directly with the key rather than the remote - then the Alarm is not initiated.
