The
PCM
audio system plays MP3 files, not protected AAC (ITune purchased/protected music files). Here is a question for anyone who has tried to use the audio system as an 'MP3 player': 1) Have you had success playing MP3 data CD-Rs? 2) If you insert a CD-R with an 'unsupported' i.e. AAC file, does the player just skip over the song? 3) I have herd that if a CD-R has inappropriate files on it that you run the risk of having the system 'lock -up' and fail to eject the CD-R, requiring factory intervention, is this true? ... an
iPod
hook up is desperately needed.. don't you think? thanks
[NOTE FROM K-MAN S - PLEASE POST AUDIO QUESTIONS IN THE CAYMAN ELECTRONICS FORUM PLEASE! - Thanks in advance!]
hopefully it wont be long before denison has an icelink plus application available for the cayman...until then...well.....let us know what you find.
I believe you can record fromI-tunes to a CD-R in MP3 format by doing the following:
Edit / Preferences / Advanced tab / Burning tab. Then select MP3 CD. I don't know if that will help.
Rudy
Won't work -- Only files that are already in MP3 format may be burned to an MP3 CD... cannot change Protected AAC files into MP3 Files without a lot of steps (burn to an audio CD then reimport as MP3)...
For what it's worth I accidentally loaded a DVD-audio into the dash slot and of course it wouldn't read. It would also not eject until I turned the car off and ejected the disc after a restart.
You CAN convert protected AAC (ie iTunes-bought songs) to MP3. What sucks about it is you have to first burn the songs as CD audio and then 're-import' as either MP3 or non-protected AAC...
Hope this helps and I am just going to yank the freaking stereo and install the
Alpine IVA-W200
, It is a double-DIN unit with native iPod (!!) control, optional bluetooth phone module, either Sirius or XM satellite PLUS HD radio. That was a mouthful!
Now, where to get the Cayman S...
MiaTreo,
Looks like a nice head unit, but is it MOST compatible? (doesn't say so), in which case you are ripping out not only the head unit but the amp and anything else connected to the MOST bus system. It would be really slick if the Alipine supported MOST.
K-ManS,
Sorry, forgot to mention that - yes, I would be removing the entire stereo system (speakers, amps, etc.) from the car. I would be going with Boston Acoustics Z6 components.
I plan on getting either a Seal grey or Atlas grey (need pics to compare!!!) with black interior. Only options will be 19'
Carrera
wheels,
PASM
,
Sport Chrono
& Sport Shifter. When I saw the leather interior options prices I thought I was shopping at Hermes or Prada - too much money and not justifiable IMHO. I have to wait for my car because I get an employee discount. /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/shades_smile.gif
Alpine does have some sort of interface device for
OEM Factory Integration
. However, I think it is to do the opposite of what you seek - it allows you to add Alpine amps. signal processing & speakers to an existing factory stereo (including Bose).
wow that head unit looks pimp! its touch screen and BlueTooth ready!
