Cant find earlier threads on this one, so I like to know if anyone has had a chance to listen to it in a
Cayman S
cranked it up on the iddle ...up/down.... how good is it in reality....clean, loud, deep bass, high treble....any comparison? Any compromises?. Does it play MP3s (no
PCM
)? ... I love music specially 80's and cant wait to get my croc in April and decide which song to play first.....saludos amigos..COCO
I took one of my MP3 derived CDs into the dealer and played it on the
Bose
in the PCNA
Cayman
. The engine wasn't running, but I did turn the volumeup. It sounded good but it didn't blow me away. I am probably spoiled by my home system. Nevertheless, I wouldn't want any less sound than what I heard from the
Bose
. Having the sub-woofer on the right side of what would be a transmission hump in a front wheel drive car was interesting. Even though a sub woofer is supposed to be non-directional, it felt directional.
BMW
puts a sub woofer under the two front seats in the new 3 series which might be a better design. This way you feel the sound in your rear-end coming up from the floor-boards, so to speak.
You lose a touch of quality depending on how the mp3 is recorded, but at 192K it would be hard to tell the difference without very good headphone. I doubt you could in a car environment.
Bose
doesn't play mp3 - the
PCM
cd player is what reads the disks so that is what you need to play a mp3 file. It definitely would sound better than a ipod using itrip or some comparable.
To get a decent sound fro MP3 when amplified in a car etc. you need to record at 320kps . 192 will be accdeptable. 128 will be very ordinary. The
BOSE
sounds infinitely better than the other stereo options. I could not live with the standard stereo as the sound was rubbish. An ipod through an iTrip sounds poor but as in other threads, Dension are almost ready with their excellent ice link which will sound as god as the MP3 CD. I will save my money on
PCM
and use it for
BOSE
, ICE LINK and Portable Sat NAv. YOu will not be dissapointed with
BOSE
in the car.
Audio is a very personal thing and different people hear at different levels of frequency response. I still would be surprised if the average ears could hear the difference in a blind test in the car between the 320K and the 192K recorded mp3.
But perhaps you might be able to especially if you played it very loud, and even then it might depend on the selection of music. I've done tests back to back (but not in the car) and usually the imperfections in audio that I am able to hear are actually on the original audio CD.
Yesterday I was playing the old song American Woman and a teenager riding with me thought the stereo was going bad or something because of the distortion. Well they obviously had never listened to the song on a good system or they would of known that it was sound of the original recoding - not the stereo.
