I use the 200amp setting on my juspstart/charging box on just about everything including my lawn mower.
Leading evidence: 'Set on my juspstart/charging box' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check fuses' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Also, the 500 cold cranking power is a theoretical used for marketing purposes.

Suggestion
The car should have come to life when you had the charger on and tried it a second time but it sounds like you had nothing so that tells me you might have blown some fuses......check them while your changing the battery just to be sure.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey all I need serious help. I had surgery and was unable to drive so the car went dead. I have a 1999 C4 coupe. I hooked it up to a 200amp charger and turned the key half way to put the windows down. Everything came on as it should and no issues. After a few minutes i got in and turned the key to start it, i hear a faint noise and everything shut off. i turned the key off then back to half way to see if anything came on, nothing is lighting. i can't move the windows and the dash is getting nothing, completely dark. Any ideas? im going to change the battery out tomorrow to see if that was it but im not thinking thats it.
any help is appreciated!
Change out your battery and keep it on a trickle charger when not in use. You might have smoked a fuse when jumping it but I would try a new battery first. The car should have come to life when you had the charger on and tried it a second time but it sounds like you had nothing so that tells me you might have blown some fuses......check them while your changing the battery just to be sure.
Electrical engineer here. If you selected the 200 amp option to charge a dead battery, you fried the battery or a fuse and likely both. You can't recover a dead battery that quickly and once it dies, even if you treat it carefully, the chemical process of dying can't be entirely undone.
Brain did not focus this morning. Electrical engineer here again. It occurs to me that what drivers are experiencing as a dead battery, low voltage, perhaps unexpectedly, may be because the alternator/starter cable aka the Y cable has been slowly corroding and preventing the battery from fully charging. If you have noticed the voltmeter on the dash is dropping into the ~12V range when the engine is warm, then your underlying problem is more likely the Y cable and not the battery and not the alternator. More on this later, but if everything is new: new Y cable, alternator and battery, the voltmeter should not drop below 13 even with everything turned on.
He's very lucky it didn't explode to be honest! Sending that many amps through a dead battery is dangerous actually. I still say try a new battery and check the fuses

Explain to me:
While you are cranking the car, the battery is delivering 500 cold cranking amps to the starter.
Why would feeding the battery 200 amps "fries" the battery? Isn't that just current going the other way through the same battery that just delivers 500 cold amps?
Good question. The dead battery isn't the same as a healthy battery. When a battery dies, part of the chemical process coats the cells to make them resistive to current and is why the voltage drops. When you apply high current to a resistor, it creates heat and hence the possible explosion. A healthy battery does not have a coating on its plates so you can charge at a higher rate. The other reason large battery chargers have a 200 amp setting is that it is used to start the car, NOT charge the battery.
Also, the 500 cold cranking power is a theoretical used for marketing purposes. It has no practical meaning. If you were able to send 500 amps through your starter, it would only start your car once and perhaps catch on fire.
Does that help?
I use the 200amp setting on my juspstart/charging box on just about everything including my lawn mower. Never had an issue. That setting is meant for starting not charging and there is nothing wrong with using it on our cars.
i suspect either a blow cel in the batery or a loose terminal.
Makes sense. Although my question is about a healthy battery NOT a bad battery. A discharged healthy battery should take 200 amps charge just fine, in theory.
In this OP case, the battery was left to totally discharge and therefore ... died. I would say to the OP, put a new battery in it, see if the car comes back. If not, start probing for 12V at firewall on the cabin side (not the trunk side) and see if you have corrosion at the firewall connection. Go from there. Failure to crank has only a few causes.
