Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

In my researching the problem I learned that the 996 uses one shock, but the 996 turbo uses two.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all,
First post here.... I have a 2001 996 cab. (Orient red / grey if you care!).
The engine compartment lid is no longer staying open.
I've ordered and received a new lid shock (from pelican - awesome service!).
In my researching the problem I learned that the 996 uses one shock, but the 996 turbo uses two. My shock is mounted on the engine compartment's right side. On the left side I see the same mounting holes (but of course there is no second shock mounted in a 996).
So my strategy is to add the second shock (on the left) to my car because that looks more straightforward than unscrewing the hard to get screws / connectors of the existing (bad) shock on the right side (they can only be reached from underneath).
Here's my question: What are the part number(s) for the screws or whatever attachment hardware is needed to mount the engine lid shock (to the left side if that makes a difference)? I don't see that in the pelican parts exploded diagram.
Thanks!!!

The lower pin is one of the two listed below. All you have to do is call, email or write a parts department and they should help get the right stuff. Yah they should but good luck.
999-167-049-02 ball pin M 6
999-167-042-02 ball pin M 8
The M6 and M8 might mean milimeters for the bolt so maybe know the bolt sizes.
It also appears the strut is on the left not right so maybe years are different.

Early 911s sometimes use two shocks in parallel. If I were having problems with a heavy decklid, I would probably look to double them up...
Yes, those appear to be the correct upper / lower pins...

FYI:
You know the old shocks pop right off? There is a small release tab on the end of them- lift up and it comes right off. No need to unscrew fittings.
It looks like you have to tap the threads in the upper mount. I've already ordered my parts and received them from Pelican, but found that mine does not have threads in that mount.
