Hi all
Harmon Kadron have just released their 'Drive and Play'
ipod
connectivity solution. It has 3 connection options - the usual FM transmitter, a 3.5mm jack
plug
if you have an output on the HU, and (most interestingly to us) an inline connector for the aerial
plug
. Basically the same as the FM transmitters, ie you tune the radio into the correct frequency, but the unit is not broadcasting anything - it coonects between the cars aerial cable and the HU, thus giving a clean, interference free reception. Looks quite good to me:

What do you guys think ?

To connect between the aerial and HU the signal would have to be analog, so somewhere the digital satellite signal is being converted to analog to patch in here, which means a likely loss in quality/fidelity but that all depends on what they use to do the conversion, a good ADC may be indistinguishable from the regular all digital signal. Sounds interesting at least! - I'm thinking more in terms of Sat Radio here than
iPOD
use,
iPOD
is already doing a DAC, it's just a different method of input.
It showed Circuit City as being the distruibutor here in Hawaii, and I called to get a price. They had no idea what I was talking about?

I think they've only just been announced Russ. They hope to have them available in the stores mid-December in the UK.

These folks tried it awhile back. When asked if it worked on the new M.O.S.T. Porsche systems they said no. E-mail to HK to find out morehas not be answered.

Like K-man S I'm also interested in Sat radio.
I just got a reply from HK and they say it will work on a 2005 Boxster with the MOST
PCM
system, so I would presume it will work in the Cayman.
Also, there is an installation pdf on their website which shows that the control box has a 3.5mm auxilliary input for connected the likes of a Sat radio.
Might be wrth a try, its got to be better than those FM transmitter solutions !?!
