Installed a few bits from Suspension Secerts and that has made the car more to my liking.

Yes Manthey suspension fitted since end of August… I just went directly to it and I didn’t bother with Suspension Secrets or anything else, as I knew i’d end up needing to change the dampers anyway, and I wanted to keep some semblance of warranty.

I noticed the lack of this on the 997.1 GT3 once I'd swapped the PASM dampers for the passive Ohlins.

I have some barely used Manthey KW's I bought from a mate of a mate, that I will fit to the 991.2 RS later this year, once I have learned it in standard mode.

Looks to have sold out quickly again-who’s got through?
I’ll be there with two mates with 991 RS and 992 Touring and a bunch of others from the 996 GT3 WhatsApp group.

You bringing the green thing, Marcus?
Yes. I think the Taycan would piss too many people off.
Yes I managed to get a spot ... bringing this one ...
The existing Toyo 888R tyres are now getting very old and were a messy challenge at a very wet Cadwell Park so I'll be looking for recommendations for a suitable 245/45 ZR16 wet / dry trackday option ... ??

The day is for mens cars only digga;) so i guess the green thing will suffice.
Good to hear you chaps got in,it’s incredible how quickly it sells out.
Not sure what i am taking yet,not had the gt3 on track yet,it needs a set of endless pads, but also keen to see what the hillclimber is like on a set of sexy e88 for taller gearing and 900 odd kg.

Was going to suggest that - unfortunately Nangkangs aren’t (unless I’m mistaken) available in those sizes.
Lovely, lovely car Chris.
6th March.
Always plenty of space to park in paddock. Spectators are always welcome. Even the ones not in Porsches.
Just FFS don’t be ‘that’ person who blocks first couple of rows behind garages, so cars coming off track with hot engines and brakes can’t get to their spaces/garages.

Thanks. Yeh, I’ve been enough times to spectate and drive to know not to be ‘that guy’
I’ll just pop over for a couple of hours, break the day up.

I know it was originally, nominally the ‘RS’ day, but the variety of Porsche machinery (even the Macan EV last year
) is a great part of the attraction to me.

Certainly not like a really soft set of wets or winters but they are miles better in the cold/wet than any other semi-slicks I have tried. I used them on my race Cayman year round and in all conditions and have seen them used on the road with no issues.

Sign of the times digga and sadly most rs are now coveted away, agree great selection out on track,no doubt plenty of carbon dinner plate versions as well.

It used to be run by Easytrack 20ish years ago but when they became defunct MSV took the idea on. Not sure who was doing it before that.

No one was doing it before.
It was started by myself,colin@ 9m,melvin,and tim from easy track with a vision of a porsche only trackday,we started with taking 30 places or so on one of tims trackdays, the second one we promised to underight the day for rs/lwt porsche only day, which became very successful ,so much so we started a porsche track club private days, but sadly it fell apart from a couple of reasons apart from tims health.
We then got msv to run the day for us,and still do,i think the next one is the 24th year.

I remember Tim well from those events, especially at Oulton. I was working for Easytrack back then and am aware of some of the “other reasons”
.
Good that the event still lives on though

Still looking for a cancellation any one please.
I will probably come along but am happy to offer a ticket ... before Christmas I ordered some new Yokohama 052's from Demon Tweaks which were due to be here this month ... they have just extended to May !! The alternative Toyo R888R's would be better than my five year old part worn tyres on my '88 944 Turbo Cup car but still not the answer so Paul, please email me and I'll probably see you there.
Ah I was always impressed with them in my R26.R back in the day (orig 888s not the Rs), a long as there was no standing water the grip they could achieve was impressive for the tread pattern! This is a long time ago however.
I'll be on Cup2s for the day again and hoping for a day such as last year!

Paul, YHM ...
I'd be interested in a cancellation. I'd be prepared to do a deal with some instruction thrown in - I'm ARDS Grade A, very experienced at Oulton Park having instructed in and raced rear, mid and front engined Porsches (lots of podia and wins).
My wife's finally agreed to come along and go on track, but she'd prefer to sit with me than a stranger. If I can't get a cancellation maybe we can come to an arrangement regarding instruction for you and the loan of your car for a session to take her out. I'd rather book our 992 Targa 4 GTS on and be able to take it out when suits (she may even drive it) but basically happy to look at options.
I don't check this form too often these days but my number is 07800 911911.

There always seemed to be at least one out on track, as usual they were blisteringly quick. Kudos to the guy in the Boxster Spyder RS who had the roof off at the earliest opportunity!
They are beaten for sound quality by the 991 RS' for me though-I heard the Lava Orange Manthey one come past the pits when I had a quick look on the wall and it was unbelievable! Did a couple of laps in my mates 991 RS "comfort/touring" and you have to re-scramble your brain for the performance-I didn't have the bottle to keep the throttle pinned all the way down Lakeside. At the blind crest before Island Bend I had to do a little lift-what a wimp!
Lapper of the day for me was the old silver 964 though, from sighting laps he was thundering around all through the drizzle popping and banging into every braking zone-you forget how good and unique those old air cooled cars sound these days.
Once again, RS day delivers, and the conditions came good in the afternoon.
Great to catch up with everyone after the winter break.

Sorry I dont appear to have any images but then I was out by 12:20 ... previous appointments and all that so only managed a cheeky morning. Bill

Was this the Lava Orange car ...

No problem. Thanks for looking
I didn’t do much running the morning when it was still a bit too wet and cold - didn’t want to risk anything - so nice catch chats in the paddock.

I wondered if it might have been Sir Chris Hoy.
It’s such a great circuit at Oulton and heading out in a 964 sounds just perfect to me.

Thanks dude, its actually the Wife's car - she did 76 laps and dried the track out for all the other ladies to enjoy in the afternoon
Melv sent us this pic that was posted elsewhere:

In the cold, wet laps in the morning, in a car that's entirely new to me, I was struggling to keep up with her in my 991.2 GT3 RS. So very well pedaled Mrs Jevvy.

There's two lizard green 991.2 GT3 RS in that clip:
one you pass early on
then mine that comes past after Brittens chicane, on way down to Hislops. I was hotly pursued by a black GT3 RS, silver 992 GT3 and white 992 GT3 RS, all of which you very deftly let through.
You re-take me at same point on cool-down lap. I thought that 996 GT3 was holding you up a bit there, so I'm glad I inadvertently managed to back him up enough for you to pass.

Now you’ve had a run out in the 991.2 RS what’s your thoughts v the 997.1 GT3?
[quote=TDT]
Once again, RS day delivers, and the conditions came good in the afternoon.
Great to catch up with everyone after the winter break.
Car had been reset to MdF and it definitely was more flighty vs HdF on the previous event but because time was limited I didnt bother changing preferring to just stay out and get the laps in, shakedown the car and learn how deal with what I had and shake of the cobwebs of my own driving
The car is just a Rolling Riot on 4 wheels WICKED.
Is this now fitted with the Manthey suspension? Did you ever have Suspension Secrets stuff before?

Yes Manthey suspension fitted since end of August… I just went directly to it and I didn’t bother with Suspension Secrets or anything else, as I knew i’d end up needing to change the dampers anyway, and I wanted to keep some semblance of warranty.

Firstly, I have
a lot
to learn, and I think that process will be a lot of fun.
The cars are so different, they are several stages of evolution apart. Some big differences:
Chassis - longer and wider track, with bigger wheels really amps up the handling for a kick off
Extra 100hp and 500rpm never goes amiss
PDK: better final drive, more ratios to pick and seamless shifting is transformative
On the last point, having been pax in a few RS cars, I have realised the benefits of being able to shift in places you'd never contemplate in a manual. Double downs
tfs into high entry speed, low apex speed bends, short-shifting under power on exit of chicanes.
Dampers were on standard setting on the cold, wet track in the morning. They did do that spooky 'hunting' thing on entry to Druids. You had a fraction of a second wehre it decided what attitude to take. I noticed the lack of this on the 997.1 GT3 once I'd swapped the PASM dampers for the passive Ohlins. A mate reminded/persuaded me to switch them in afternoon and they were better. I have some barely used Manthey KW's I bought from a mate of a mate, that I will fit to the 991.2 RS later this year, once I have learned it in standard mode.
Overall though. Massive fun. Not so much 'better' (I love the 997 GT3 platform) as just new and very different.

Interesting comments I’ve done a similar path last year from a 997.1 GT3 to a 991.2 GT3 and a lot of your comments do reflect.
My 7.1 was heavily modified and I did have a a few years driving gap but couple of things that stood out to me was how soft the rear was, much more roll into the corner and squirmy under heavy braking. Front end a bit vague too.
Installed a few bits from Suspension Secerts and that has made the car more to my liking.
Not noticed the pasm doing its odd thing as it did on the 997.1 yet but haven’t been to Oulton Park. Hoping not to go down that rabbit hole this time as want more road compliance this time round.
Are you doing the Oulton Park GT day 6th May?
Interesting to compare notes - given we're on similar upgrade paths.
The 991.2 GT3 RS is very stiffly sprung but nicely damped. It just ride a lot flatter (pitch and also roll) than the 997.1 GT3. The bigger chassis helps this too, but it definitely does not feel soft, in the way you describe your 991.2 GT3.
Would love to have done GT day, but I'm on Nurburgring on 4th May, only get back on 6th.

Weak + No Excuse!!…I’m essentially going to be driving straight from N ring to Oulton Park. There is a full day in between- can sleep on the 7th lol.

For various reasons (mostly can't be arsed driving down to tunnel) I'm doing the Hull-Rotterdam ferry.

Is the car more road compliant with the Manthey Suspension?

Road compliant could mean a lot... lol.
The Manthey Suspension for 4RS has 4-way adjustment for High/Low Compression and High/Low Rebound - so you can set it up for road work (within reason - its definitely a focussed sports car) or go FULL kill for track. Front Spring rate is 20N/mm stiffer - but is actually makes the front to rear balance better and the whole car work more cohesively.

Thanks , big learning curve for me !
Considering buying one.
Main use would be for road and 3/4 track days per year.
I'm no seasoned track expert so would need a car that I could also enjoy for 3k road miles.
I've had a good few GT P cars including a 996 RS a while back and no issues but of course our roads have gotten far worse.
Have considered the Spyder as an alternative.
May I ask if you do many road miles or just a track car ?
Last question if I may -
Is your car non WP?
Might be the better option for me .
Thanks once again

Do it! Only reason I didn't get one was I had an irrational desire to try a 991 RS.
IMHO the 4RS is one of the most fun and best GT cars made and, right now, a great buy.

Think a non WP would be the car for me.

You have a new YouTube subscriber !
Still enjoying your vids especially the Silverstone one .
Love the rear view camera mount too .
May I ask if the car is on PCCB's on track and by the looks of it you have the TC turned off?

Thank you very much. Glad you are enjoying the videos!
I specced my 4RS with the standard steel brakes with the intention of swapping to Surface Transforms CCM rotors.
I did this last summer. So far running great.
Ref ESC+TC. Once I’m up to speed or comfort level on a trackday, I switch ESC off and leave TC on only.

Hi I'm trying to find the owner of V390KOF; I was asked if I had any images of his car from the RS Day but for the life of me I cannot find him ... any way the image, one of a few that I have, is V390KOF ... if you know the owner can you pass this on or get him to DM me in Instagram on stillbill.foto

There were two there. The other one literally followed me into the paddock in the morning.
That one had grey wheels, not black. You can see both in Jevvy’s video.

Very true. You never really get 100% of the experience until you put these cars onto a circuit. 911's, Boxsters, Caymans - they're all built for it.
