I was thinking of adding PCM to my order but I've never spent time with the Porsche PCM system. Does anyone here have it on another Porsche and if so what can you tell me about it?
How does it compare to Nav systems on say Infiniti/Nissan, Honda/Acura, Lexus, etc?
There sure are a lot of buttons, does it get easier to use once you figure it out?
For MP3 play (systems built this year on beyond) can it navigate the folder structure and does it provide song title, author, etc?
For the Sport Chrono graphs, can you export those in any way?
Anything else you would say that makes you like or dislike the PCM option?
Thanks in advance!
I was thinking the same thing just because the screen looks so cool. But does PCM means that you have automatic climate control? I hate automatic climate control...
No those are separate, the ACC is simply a single button change on the normal AC unit which provides an auto-temp function. Stupid price on that option, ought to be standard...
We have PCM on our Boxster S, the system is very good & easy to use, need to spec the multi-changer the map memory range is about 30 miles before you have to reinsert the map disk.
The price is high, we are not sure if we are going to spec it on the Cayman S, in our 2nd car we use portable NavMan Sat nav & it is as good as the Porsche PCM system.
One major plus that PCM has is when specked with the Sport crono the display will show graphs, times & other data.

Rod,
I'm not sure I understand the part about re-inserting the map disk? Isn't the entire country on one DVD now? As for showing the Sport Chrono graphs, is there a way to export those graphs to a file or printer somehow?
Porsche upgraded the PCM Navigation Module to a DVD based system during 2005. The CD based system from 2004, at least in the Cayenne, required changing CDs as you moved through regions of the country. This is not an issue with the Navigation units in our 2006 Caymans.

JHellow many thanks for the update, dont need to order multichanger now.
K-Man S, the transfer of data, good question, is the new PCM Bluethooth?, I need the answer to this question,
regards
No bluetooth. Bummer. However, if you get the phone module for PCM, you can swap your sim card in and out of the car. There is a retractable slot below the key pad to do this. The phone is hands free in that, if you also get the multifunction wheel, you can work the phone and your address book off the PCM display..

mpollard,
That is nice, and I would love to have DVD / TV, do not need NAV here in the Islands. We have a simple formula, water on the left your going SE, water on the right, your going NW. Pretty hard to ever goet lost.
