It only took about an hour to run the cords for the unit and the concealed diplay on the steering column.

Posted-02/26/2006: 6:31:56 PM <hr size="1" noshade="noshade" />I just installed my V1 today. It only took about an hour to run the cords for the unit and the concealed diplay on the steering column. My question is it OK to leave the cord in the passenger side outlet and just turn the unit off when the car is parked or will it still pull from the battery? I would like to just leave the unit plugged in and us the on off switch. I was thinking about hardwiring it but decided to first just run it through the 12v socket. Good question, I have left mine plugged into the socket for several weeks now. I was assuming that it would not draw any power as long as you remember to turn it off. Anyone know for sure? Thanks Russ

I have a Passport 8500 X50 plugged into the passenger 12v area. Their intructions, and the Cayman manuel says, if I'm not mistaken, that it will not draw current unless the unit is turned on. When I am parked somewhere in a public place, I unclip the detector from the windshield and store in the the glovebox. Seems to work well. Russ, have you taken your croc over the Pali? I used to live at Wheeler field (now an Army base). Maybe you could get the car over to Maui and put in on the Hana road. Very scary road.
