Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm looking at a '99 that according to the owner has a Tip that "slips" especially when cold. 110,000 miles and decent other than that. I'm checking out the car in a couple of days and am wondering: 1. If is is unusual for a 993 110K tranny to be bad? 2. Could it be something as simple as fluid change? 3. Can they be adj or is it pretty much exchange city? Thanks in Adv.

POST 2Original post

You can try a fluid and filter change . If the level is low then it could explain slippage. They are very level sensative. Proper level is checked at a certain temp because the fluid level changes with temp. If it has been slipping for awhile there is probably clutch and band wear which won,t come back. An exchange trans is probably $10,000 there are few rebuilders that I know of. Try "car-parts.com" for low mile used

POST 3Original post

1999 was the first year for the 996 water cooled cars. The last 993 air cooled model year was 1998. Transmissions are not the same and cannot be swapped. You want like for like.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
